SMSes for Wednesday 17 April 2013

SMS Of The Day *YOU know what, we Namibians must wake up. While we are getting drunk and killing each other at the shebeens, our leaders are stealing from us. How can you steal from a hungry nation?

Food For Thought
*WE can debate as much as we want but passing the buck has become a norm in Namibia. If those who are in top positions can’t be held accountable for the problems in organisations they lead then we have a serious problem in this country.

Bouquets And Brickbats
*MINISTER Albert Kawana, you lost the case of Kasikili Island against Botswana now you want to give part of Caprivi Region to Kavango Region. It seems that you don’t know the value of land. Don’t bring in regionalism. Be real and stand your ground.

*HEALTH ministry, help the nurses who are doing bridging courses with incentives (allowances) to pay their rental fees. We are really suffering with renting and daily transport.

*I LOVE the management tips in The Namibian. Good job.

*CIVIL servants are still waiting for the payment of benefits (housing allowances and other benefits) which came into effect last November. The issue of regrading of salaries is supposed to be effective from this month but the government is still discussing some issues around regrading. Does the government want to see labour unrest or what?

*I DON’T understand some business companies in Namibia. They talk of developing young people but they don’t want to hire them. What does that mean?

*IS dialogue about singing praise to ministers or to put issues in perspective?

*PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba, do not pardon criminals who have committed serious crimes, especially those who are serving life sentences. There is already too much crime in this country. We are scared.

*IT IS high time that all teachers buy their own computers to do minor work such as preparing question papers, compiling marks, reports of students and so forth. Until when are they going to drop off work to poor underpaid secretaries? Teachers salaries have now improved.

*WHAT is the point of the telling men to stop killing innocent women like the president is doing. Instead, implement the laws to deal with the problem. About the struggle kids: Change your name or else you will be struggling for the rest of your lives.

*THOSE who are responsible to apprehend Lazarus Shaduka are weak or corrupt. When are you planning to trace him?

*LIFE imprisonment means that the prisoners are not even supposed to be considered for parole. They must rot in jail for serious crimes. What does government think, life imprisonment means?

*NAMIBIAN government, we know that Namibia is independent. Why is it that all Namibians are not getting a portion of the national cake?

*UNIONS representing civil servants, the Namibian government has so much money that it can buy expensive cars for the ministers. Now is the time to insist for 40% salary increase for all civil servants.

*I AM a proud Namibian living in a neighbouring country. I’ve just returned for a short visit and was keen to catch up on local news but I can’t hide my disappointment at various factors such as the abuse, murders, rape, unfriendliness and the exorbitant prices of commodities. I am wondering what is happening to our country. Land of the Brave?

*CAN you please give us information on how and where to go when you want to write a book in Namibia?

*CAN someone tell me why Namibian products are advertised by South African companies? Are we not capable to do it ourselves? I really want to know.

*IF our government needs advice on housing they must go to property developers for advice because they are experienced. They must not go to consultants who have never built a house.

*DEPUTY Speaker of Parliament, don’t interrupt the Members of Parliament. Let the public hear what the MPs have to say. Follow the rules. Give them 15 minutes or so. Don’t try to show your power for nothing.

*WINDHOEK Municipality, please help the residents of Kleine Kuppe by attending to the sewage tank in front of Metro. It has been overflowing for a week now and the whole area is smelling badly.

*NAHAS Angula is more confused due to last year’s cabinet reshuffle. He has lost focus and is now debating about everything. Thank you President Hifikepunye Pohamba for teaching them a lesson. They must learn.

*I WANT to know why the Ministry of Health is discriminating and limiting students studying abroad by only offering bursaries to students studying in the SADC region. Why don’t you wake up and realise that developed countries offer more specialised courses that can benefit the nation. Please think outside the box and sponsor bursaries to Namibians who are studying abroad. I’m very concerned with your inability to realise this.

*PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba, please intervene. The Ministry of Defence is now being run like a shebeen. Only a clique of friends are being promoted. Access to education is only for people who have served for three years. We are told that there will be no promotions until 2016 due to the inflation in ranks. This will only benefit a group of few people. During meetings we are told not to ask any questions by the man in charge. Many people have resigned because of mismanagement. We really miss Martin Shali and Peter Nambundunga. Indeed, they were motivating and inspiring the commanders.

*AGRICULTURE is one of the sectors that recruited many people in Namibia. Yet, the graduates in agriculture are sitting at home without jobs. We want to work and sustain the economic growth of our country. We are qualified enough to be part of this sector. We hope that we will be recruited soon. Thank you.

*GOVERNMENT of Namibia, please help the poor teachers out of micro loans. Fuel prices have gone up and our cars stand along the road because of petrol. We vote you into power and were very patient for the past years but our patience is running out. Please give us our backpay.
– Concerned teacher

*CITY of Windhoek, dogs in St Helena Street, Rocky Crest are out of control and disturbing. People fail to keep their dogs in their yards. There is a dog at every second house. We always experience conflict in the neighbourhood because of dogs. Cleaning the mess of dogs is very bad if you don’t own a dog. How much am I going to be fined for killing a dog? I am tired.

*I WENT to Katutura Police Station to lay a charge of noise pollution caused by an illegal shebeen. “We can’t do anything if the owner has a license”, was the answer I received.

*MY father started his life in Namibia as a poor English teacher. Oh yes. What do you think? All white people started their life in Namibia as poor of the poorest from Europe. We know that.

*I JUST want to congratulate the writer for the e-mail titled ‘response to regrading not helpful’. The article was punchy. Just to remind those who think being a pharmacist is just only ‘a drug pusher’. Please think again. Every certificate has a meaning. We don’t need to politicise qualifications!

*NAMIBIA should know that the rapists an murderers are increasing in the country. We must stand up and punish all those who are committing these crimes. Prisoners must not eat fresh food like we eat in our houses. That would deter them to refrain from such acts.

*I ALWAYS laugh when my countrymen listen attentively and internalise what our leaders in Africa are telling us, especially on the so-called economic and social developments and poverty eradication. SACU leaders are denying us to import cars from Japan. The Namibian government is today chasing street vendors around. It is all in the interest of their capitalist big brothers.

*IT IS interesting to note that the very same people who are accusing the leaders of poor performance and self-enrichment are hypnotised to vote for the same leaders back into power. Blame yourselves fellow countrymen.

Service Please
*OPUWO Standard Bank, your service is very slow and poor. Manager, tell your staff to pull up their socks otherwise you are going to lose your customers. They can simply go to other banks for better service.

*DEAR President Hifikepunye Pohamba, is it fair that Rukavango radio service is not broadcasting at places like Swakopmund and Walvis Bay since independence, while other language services are heard all over Namibia?

Educational

*MINISTER of Education, please intervene at schools where some teachers are groomed for HOD positions. Most senior staff members are left behind. How hard should they work to be acknowledge for such positions? I don’t really think it’s fair!

*TEACHERS do not go to classes on time. Teachers stay away form work for long periods. Ministry of Education must know that we are tired. The ministry must investigate this issue at Olulongo Combined School in Oluno circuit. Grade 8 learners have not received teaching in English since January. Teachers and learners are always late for school. Learners are not given enough work to do.
