SMSes for Wednesday 10 April 2013

SMS Of The Day *SEBASTIAN Ndeitunga of Nampol I have few suggestions. 1) Put undercover agents on mini busses traveling from Windhoek to Oshakati. They are speeding and they inform each other as to where the traffic cameras are. 2) Breatherliser tests must be done at road blocks permanently. 3) Pass a law to ensure that all buses are equipped with speed limit devices by 2016 (110 km/h). 4) Set up a cell number where people can send pictures of speed offenders, free of charge. 5) Police at road blocks must pay attention to tyres and suspension. Forget about higher fines because people will continue to bribe your officers. Get to the root cause of the problem.

Food For Thought
*WE the Hai-//Om community is unhappy with the headmen who say that they have connections with Government. They appoint people themselves without the involvement of the community. They must allow us to choose our councillors and secretaries. We want the Anti Corruption Commission to investigate this issue.

Bouquets And Brickbats
*WARNING to the nation. We have driving schools in Windhoek that are doing business in an unacceptable fashion. They convince people to pay in advance saying they will get discount. That is just a ploy. They are only interested in your money. Be warned my friends.

*THE Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Finance are not serious with the civil servants. They don’t respect the agreements they signed with Napwu and Nantu. We are informed that adjustments to salaries and benefits, as agreed on during November 2012 negotiations, will not be implemented on 30 April. Everything on the payment system is as usual. Can they explain why we have to beg and wait for what is due to us. Perhaps we need to demonstrate again.

*WHAT type of a person is David Namwandi? He should stop targeting schools who are trying their level best. After all, government is responsible for the chaos in the education sector after independence. The new system is a complete failure. He should rather concentrate on the mess going on at the IUM, NQA and NTA.

*PAULUS Amutenya and Shafooli at FNB Ongwediva branch, your customer service is outstanding. May God bless you. Congratulations!
– Client from Okaandje Village

*IT’S painful and difficult to comprehend the incident at Oshakati State Hospital. The nurses who have no passion for their work must be fired. They are killing our people.

*THE Ministry of Education must inform us as to why teachers are excluded from the regrading of salaries that is to be implemented this month. Is it just rumours circulating or is it true?

*THE lawmakers in Namibia should bring about change. Can’t they see that there is peace in Botswana? Bring back the death penalty before things get out of hand.

*I COMPLETELY agree with the reader who says that the justice system has failed us. It would be better for us as citizens to stand up for our rights. For how long are we going to read about rape and killing of our daughters, let alone the granting of bail and light sentences to suspects? Enough is enough. This is painful. The man who raped and killed my daughter is free after serving a light sentence.

*PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba said that we must pray to God for rain. I only want to tell our leaders to use the existing technology rather than telling the nation to pray for rain. There is water at the waterfall near Omuthiya town. It could be used for irrigation if we apply the technology. We are informed of climate change and must therefore be innovative to find other means of survival.

*MEMBERS of NamPol must stop complaining about salaries in the media. You were trained and you are aware of the hierarchy. The article in The Namibian of 4 April gave a bad image of the organisation. Please follow the existing procedures. The office of the inspector general is open to everyone so you can approach him personally. Grow up and do things in a professional way.

*NORTH Korea is heading for a nuclear war but the world is saying nothing. I want to know the stance of China because I am confused. China is doing business with North Korea while the Korean people are starving. China is applying double standards and thus cannot be trusted. The United Nations is toothless and is falling apart like its predecessor, the League of Nations. And China is doing business with Africa while supporting North Korea. China must play open cards.

*ANY human being must learn to control his/her temper to avoid conflict. I called Katutura Mr Price branch to speak to one of the employees and was told, to my surprise, that the workers are not allowed to receive phone calls and that I should call during lunch hour on his cellphone. When I enquired whether that arrangement is in line with our laws they said that it is in line with the labour law. Can somebody verify if this is true?

*WHY do staff members of Air Namibia make use of Vulkana transfer buses if they have their own buses and drivers? Is it because your buses are not serviced or are they not roadworthy?

*PLEASE publish the faces of the people responsible for the death of Adelheid Jacobs’ baby at the Oshakati State Hospital so that the public can see and know who they are!

*I DON’T understand why people blame the justice system for the spate of violence against women. Does the justice system raise your children? We can impose a 100-year jail sentence on rapists and killers, but if we cannot address alcoholism and drugs or discipline our sons while they are young, nothing will change.

*CAN someone in the management of NamPort tell me why NamPort at Luderitz is different from the one at Walvis Bay? Equipment like the side loader is falling apart. Yet the operator is forced to go and collect a container. We preach about safety at work place but here in Luderitz things are done differently.

Suggestion Box
*ENOUGH is enough! Government must introduce stiffer sentences for murderers and rapists. They must build a new prison in the Namib desert so that they can be isolated for a long time. They must be subjected to hard labour with only one meal per day. No visitors for the duration of their jail sentence will do the trick.

Educations
*UNAM and Ministry of Education why do you cancel the ELLP Mentorship programme? Not all are complaining. Forms were attached to either accept or reject the appointments. Some of us eagerly and willingly accepted. Go ahead and make use of those who accepted the mentorship. We want to deliver. Concerned teacher. Kunene Region.

*MINISTRY of Education our loans for last year are not yet paid. How can we graduate if we are in arrears at Unam? Graduation will take place next month. We want feedback please.

*MINISTER David Namwandi, are you aware that learners at Okahenge Combined School in Omundaungilo Constituency are sent home everyday for late coming, without investigation being done for their late coming?

Health
*MINISTER of Health and Social Services, please visit the Tsumeb State Hospital and see for yourself how the nurses are working. They are very rude. They don’t identify themselves and don’t display their nameplates.

*EVERY minister is responsible for the employees in his ministry. The minister of health can therefore be fired. Perhaps it is because they are so secure in their positions that they do not carry out their duties properly. The entire service in state hospitals is a problem. Is it because the baby-saga happened in Oshakati that the president is raising his voice? The rest of the hospitals in Namibia must also enjoy the same attention. Employ sisters and nurses that are professional.

*WE are experiencing problems at Onandjokwe State Hospital. I took my seriously ill baby to the hospital on 5 April 2013. After doctors examined her they informed me that they know the problem but decided to send her home without giving her medicine. I don’t want to lose my baby girl. Can the relevant authorities intervene.

*TO those who want to defend the minister of health. You must know that in a democracy like ours the minister resigns if he fails to run his ministry in a proper way. In the US when the former secretary of defence realised that the war was not moving according to plan he resigned. In Great Britain the former PM resigned because of the same reason. Cyprus Finance Minister resigned when Cyprus could not be bailed out financially.

Labour
*THE Labour Law in Namibia is not functional and the labour inspectors are sleeping. Rubicon Securities is deducting N$1 000-plus for two pairs of uniform over four months from our salaries, while the labour regulation of Namibia states that about N$300 should be deducted once off for two pairs of uniform. Rubicon Securities is violating the labour laws and it seems they are untouchable.

In And From The Regions
*I AM concerned about a Swapkor house in Safari location in Rundu. The owner of the house passed away 23 years ago but the Town Council of Rundu refuses to change the ownership to the children who live in this house for many years. I want the Ministry of local government to respond to this problem.
