SMSes for Tuesday 16 April 2013

SMS Of The Day *MINISTER of Safety and Security, the nation has expressed concern about corruption amongst traffic officers who abuse government resources to enrich themselves by setting up speed-cameras and demanding half of the fine from drivers. If the drivers refuse to go for the deal they are given very short period to pay their fine. A similar system in South Africa should be introduced to curb the practice. Such traffic officers are destroying our country with their corrupt practices. The Head of State is always talking about fighting corruption but the line ministry is not serious to implement the much needed measures.

Food For Thought
*MEME MIA is a superb Namibian production by Namibians for Namibians. But the show is only staged in town. Can the ministry of culture or any other business entity sponsor the show to be brought to Katutura and Khomasdal?

Bouquets And Brickbats
*DEAR Editor, why would you comment on our letters. For example: ‘Another Hitler Project and ICC’. Let the public do analysis instead of favouring the west.

*MINISTRY of Home Affairs, we are advised to hand in our identity cards if there are mistakes so you can correct them. I am sure that we will be asked to pay N$250 for the corrections.

*I DON’T understand this government. The Katutura State Hospital is in a bad state. Instead of investing in the health infrastructure to ensure that it is of high standard the government is wasting money to buy Mercedes Benzes for ministers. Sies man. It’s absurd!

*THE Director of National Museum, be kind and assist the students who approach your institution for research purposes as the museum serves as a tool and instrument to safeguarding our national heritage. If you don’t have time instruct your staff to assist the students. This is just advice. Thanking you in advance.

*FAT cats in Namibia, be warned. All your actions, your indifference to the voices of reason, your ‘I don’t care’ attitude, are inviting revolution to this country like it did in the Arab countries.

*I WANT to know if the average 31% increase for the political office bearers has been implemented? If so why is the increment for public servants not in operation? The increase for public servants was finalised before that of the POB’s. Don’t tell us about the appeal. The regrading can be implemented while the appeal is ongoing. We will be robbed like it was done last year. So far we have not received housing and transport allowances that were promised to be paid with the eight percent increase.

*MINISTER of Veterans Affairs Nicky Iiyambo, please deliver, deliver and deliver. If you are unable to deliver and the registration of war veterans is not done tell the nation why it is taking so long.

*PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba, can you please find out from the Minister of Veterans Affairs why the remaining veterans are not registered. Has the exercise come to an end or is it still continuing?
– War veterans

*THE Statistician General John Steytler says 59% of the youth between 15 and 19 are jobless. Are the children under age 18 supposed to be employed and can they be counted as jobless? Can someone please explain or give me the number of this general?

*I AM a Namibian and a black African and I believe that my origin is from Africa. I want to know why only the San people are regarded as indigenous. Furthermore, I am requesting the parliamentarians and the public at large to discuss and debate this terminology and to decide where other black Namibian tribes belong if they are not indigenous to Namibia.

*RESTAURANT Sardinia, you have excellent service. Keep it up!

*MY condolences to the Sorensen family. From recent media reports Vincent Sorensen was a strong personality and a wealthy man. What is Hepatits A? How does one contract it? Surely he had the financial means to afford the necessary health care. Yet, he died. The article by Selma Shipanga does not help us to understand this obviously dangerous/fatal disease and how to avoid contracting it.

*IUM management, some of us have completed our courses and we want to graduate. The graduation ceremony is an honour to our parents and families. Please set the date for the graduation ceremony.

*CAN the GIPF tell us why it takes one and a half year to pay out a death claim? The excuses given on our enquiries are not acceptable. GIPF members wake up and smell the coffee. GIPF is more concerned about their investment portfolio where they are using our money. There are alternative ways to make money and satisfy our needs.

*I WELCOME and applaud the re-introduction of the ‘Prime Minister’s Question Time’ on NBC Television. This is very much informative and gives the electorate a sense of trust in the elected. However, I would love to also have a slot for President’s question time in order to promote transparency and accountability.

*WHY is the government using that amount of money to buy Mercedes Benz cars for ministers? Why do we have leaders in Namibia if they don’t pay attention to important issues facing the Namibians? We are tired of people who enrich themselves at the expense of the nation. Go with your luxury cars and get old quickly. We, the young blood want to take over.

*THE government is telling the farmers to sell their livestock. The farmers will not be able to meet the demands in life afterwards. Please give them fodder to feed their animals instead of telling them to sell their livestock.

*PLEASE let us help our brothers and sisters and street children who are searching for food in rubbish bins. If possible put food in a clean container and leave it on top of the rubbish bin. It may feed and save their lives.

*CAN the SME Bank publish and show how many SME businesses they have helped or granted loans since it was established?

*LEADERS must stop telling the criminals to stop with raping and killing of people. They are not listening to you. Instead, act urgently by amending laws in Parliament which would enable the courts to punish the culprits harshly.

*AS long as we continue blaming the men for the violence in the country the problem will not be solved. Women should stop walking alone in the dark and abandoned roads.

*LOIDE Kasingo, please lower your voice and control your temper in Parliament. You are too rough with your colleagues. Show some respect.

*VISION 2030 is a national goal meant to turn Namibia into an industrialised nation. Therefore implement programmes aimed at realising the dream. Individuals with skills and ability need to be appointed in supervisory as well as managerial positions. Politics must not be a deciding factor in appointments. We want to achieve the national vision timely and effectively.

*OUR Parliamentarians, who are you trying to fool? You recognise the police officers at the border posts but you fail to recognise those ones who are looking after your houses. Duty rooms at ministers’ houses are out of order and some toilets are not functioning at all. It’s a shame.

*KAZENAMBO Kazenambo should know how to talk when in the National Assembly. He is a leader and the nation is watching and listening. If he cannot behave he should resign.

*PICK & Pay Wernhill Park, please tell your security personnel inside your outlet not to beg money from the shoppers. The security guards are paid to do their job. They should learn to live within their means.
– Leon

*DEAR President Hifikepunye Pohamba, do you know that the civil servants in the ministry of defence never received their overtime allowances since last year? Defence ministry purchased two million wine glasses last year and that is why there is no money. Is it self enrichment?

*I DON’T understand why we like to criticise other people. I would like to challenge those who say Minister Richard Kamwi is doing badly. Come out and tell the nation that you can do a good job on health portfolio or bring positive suggestions or strategies to turn around the health sector. Let’s come up with solutions because the infrastructure belongs to every Namibian.

*MINISTERS need to go on diets if they are too fat for the cars they are currently driving. Instead, subsidise electricity because REDs are robbing the nation everyday.

*MINISTER of Veterans Affairs, please do something about the N$200 000 earmarked for the so-called projects. I think the best way is to give the money in cash.

*I HAVE been doing business with MTC for more than 10 years and I find the company arrogant, especially the management. Please do not forget where you started.

*STRUGGLE kids must go to school before they demand jobs. We can’t employ uneducated people. It won’t do any good to the country.

Service Please
*I WOULD like to know from Telecom Namibia (in Windhoek) how Telecom in Opuwo is working. If you ask them to fix your ADSL they tell you they are not working during weekends but they were transporting people to Epupa on 6 April 2013 (registration number provided). The car was again travelling to Epupa last weekend (13 April) loaded with building material. That’s how Telecom is working in Opuwo. My ADSL is not transferred.

*WHEN is the road between Ondangwa and Eenhana going to be tarred? We are tired of this bad gravel road after 23 years of independence. The tarred road ends at Oshigambo. Why?
