SMSes for Tuesday 02 April 2013

SMS Of The Day *LIFE is very hard on people who are working in shops owned by Indians and Chinese in Katima Mulilo. They earn a mere N$300 to N$900 per month. What can they buy with that kind of money? They work seven days per week including public holidays without an extra income. I think the government should look into this. Our people continue to suffer at the hands of so-called investors who are just here to make money and exploit the people working for them.

Food For Thought
*POLITICAL office bearers must stand up and deal with the unemployment situation in the country otherwise this problem will deal with them, soon.

Bouquets And Brickbats
*THANK you MTC for the early Easter gift. I recharged with a N$50 voucher on Thursday and to my surprise on Friday afternoon I received a message saying that I was awarded with the same amount of free airtime. This was supposed to start on 29 March. Keep it up. Credit should be given where it is due.

*NAMIBIA Training Authority. We received our certificates from 2010 until the suspension of the CEO. Everything has now come to a halt. There is also a leadership vacuum at the institution. We want our results and certificates, please.

*I WOULD like to thank the police officers in Keetmanshoop for closing all the bars and shebeens on Good Friday. It reminded me of the time I was in India. Some parts of India is regarded as alcohol free and such is not allowed. Keep up the good work. By closing bars you actually save many lives. Every week people are stabbed to death with knives. We are living in fear at this town.

Justice for All
*IS this really Namibia? The police officer has been paid by a prisoner and the inmates escaped. The inmates that are left behind are being abused at Otjiwarongo prison, because they are suspected to have blown the whistle. Is this how we are supposed to be treated?

*NAMIBIA is facing problems because of unwillingness and/or inability of its leaders to change the status quo. Please wake up and smell the coffee before it is too late.

*WE regard the Prime Minister as an agent of change, who will steer this country in the right direction and bring good governance, efficiency and economic empowerment to all. Surprisingly, we have not heard the Prime Minister’s views on the suspension of many CEOs of parastatals. They are suspended with pay and full benefits.

*AT least 23 people on a construction site just outside Opuwo were not counted during the census. I met with the census enumerators in town and informed them of the people on the site, but they never turned up.

From the Regions

*TSANDI Constituency is always lagging behind when it comes to development. No tangible development has taken place since 1992 in this constituency. We thought the former councillor was slow or lazy and had high hopes with the current councillor, but nothing has changed after he took over.

*TSUMEB Municipality, for how long must we continue to pay for the delapitated houses. Most of the houses are more than 30 years old and were never maintained since they were built. What are we paying for? Have we not covered the building costs by now? The same municipality is demanding 30% re-connection fees for water which is way beyond our means. Please respond. Minister of Local Government Housing and Rural Development, please rescue us!

*DELIMITATION Commission. The Community of Onyelelo, Onalunkono, Ombalala, Onangodhi, Iipandayaamiti villages and surrounding areas should become part of Okatana constituency or either a constituency should be created and named Iipandayaamiti constituency and become part of Oshana Region. Just imagine, we are 10km from Oshakati but we have to travel to Outapi, which is 100km from here. This is not fair. We are suffering too much.

‘Struggle Kids’
*THE so-called ‘Struggle Kids’ who lost their parents during the liberation struggle are supposed to be considered for jobs, not those whose parents are warrant officers and brigadiers. The government has failed in identifying who really need jobs. I know of a child whose mother is a sergeant in Nampol and the father is a captain in the NDF and yet he got the job in the NDF. Is that not nepotism and corruption? Now they are chasing away the ones who really need jobs. They must make sure that all the children get employment, not only the sons and daughters of their friends. I am really fed up.

*ANTI Corruption Commission, please investigate the Windhoek finance department of the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement. The money intended for the CLS project is being squandered. As a result, temporary workers are robbed of their correct income.

Education

*I HOPE that Nantu’s Basilius Haingura is doing well. Can you clearly communicate with members of your union to once again to avoid unnecessary strikes like the one that took place late last year? That happened because you failed to communicate with the teachers. When are we going to receive our back-dated payments on housing and transport allowances since? This is outstanding from 1 November 2012.

*MAJOR Mashina of 12 Artillery Regiment in the NDF is refusing soldiers to attend school. The constitution of this country is very clear on the rights of its citizens. We have the right to pursue our studies.

*ALL the parents who have paid school development fund money since 2001 must be refunded by the government. Otherwise this spells absolute corruption.

* MINISTER of Education David Namwandi, why can’t you give teachers uniforms like nurses and police officers? They irritate us with their cloths.

*I HAD a vision that God is angry with the Namibian nation. That’s about leadership, crime and immoral conduct in the country. That’s why the rain came during the Easter weekend after a long delay. We must be fair and righteous in our dealings so as to ensure that we are close to our Creator, ‘Kalunga kaNangobe’!

*PEOPLE who complain about the conduct of taxi drivers must write down the registration number of the taxi in question and SMS it to The Namibian or to the City Police. Nothing will change if we don’t do something.

*WE, the pupils at Engela School, are tired of receiving corporal punishment from our teachers and principal. Please, Minister David Namwandi, do something.
– Hangula James

*WHAT happened to the six farms donated by the late Werner List to the government under former President Sam Nujoma. Namibians open your eyes. We badly need another revolution. Not a ‘Shebeen Revolution’. Please wake up.

Service Please
*THE CEO’s at local authorities and parastatals are being fired or suspended left, right and centre because of misunderstandings and conflicts caused by the board members. The current state of affairs require intervention by the Prime Minister. Service delivery is being compromised.

*WHY is the NBC not broadcasting The Namibian Newspaper Cup live?

*IS NORED building or breaking Namibia? Their charges are too high and expensive. What do they think about other people? Please, put yourself in other peoples’ shoes. Do not think all of us can afford your charges. We all want to make ends meet.

*MANAGEMENT of Pick ‘n Pay (Wernhil Park), I do shopping at your outlet most of the time. There is always a N$1 short when I receive my change. I was amazed to see that a customer in front of me had a similar situation. Is it a trick they use to con us or is it an order coming from the management?

*TSUMEB SPAR. Why do you sell a tango starter pack for N$20 which is sold at N$7 elsewhere? Stop ripping us off. MTC please investigate!

*ONE AFRICA Television, don’t you know that families are sometimes watching movies together? Why do you air movies that contain indecent behaviour and foul language.

Sport

*THANK you NFA for organising such a flamboyant tournament (The Namibian Cup) in Otjiwarongo. Ironically, you again failed us by not picking up the age cheating scam before time, which has been going on for the past thirteen years. The Hardap Region is not the first culprit and should be pardoned for showing us the tricks that has been going on. The lesson from this national embarrassment is to ensure that good governance and administration is being observed. It is crucial to take the people’s game to a another level. Let us strive to put in place procedures to verify players’ ages before allowing them to play. Is it so difficult for the NFA to first confirm the players’ ages with the relevant authorities? I do not think so.

Labour
*CAN the Government and privately owned companies please look at our situation when we hunt for jobs? I am living at a village in Oshana Region and come from a poor family. My grandparents, uncle, sister and brother are living in abject poverty. We have no car, no house, not even a house in a shanty town. We are looking for better jobs.

*DUNNS shop in Katima Mulilo is hiring and firing employees at will. They don’t have permanent workers. Every time you visit the shop you will be greeted by new people. Maybe, the employees sign a one month contract. Can the Ministry of Labour please investigate the labour practice at that shop.
