SMSes for Thursday 28 September 2012

SMS Of The Day n THIS infant protection for rich companies is nonsense. Locally produced milk, cement and chicken are more expensive than imported products. Protect the rich to screw the poor?

Food for Thought

n CRY the beloved country, Namibia is not a good place to stay. People are trying to make ends meet, and the law enforcements are chasing hawkers. My tears drop as some will sleep on hungry tummies.

– Edward K, Omakondo

n WHILE the president and ministers are living in luxury, people in Namibia are living in very difficult and extremely sad conditions. The two sad stories that were  shown on the 20h00 news of September 25, of the San community who can’t afford to bury their relative and the all families who are affected by disabilities who lost their house in Khomasdal, hurt the whole Namibia at large. NBC news please give us the bank account details of the two families.

n LOOKING at Sky News broadcasting the story of the 30-year-old teacher who fled to France from the UK with a 15-year-old school girl. Fellow teachers knew about the affair but did nothing about it. This story brings me to my case, just the other way around. No running away, but an affair between a learner and teacher. The teachers also knew what was going on but nothing was done about the affair.

n I RESPECT advocate Vekuii Rukoro as a learned man and one of the founding fathers of the Namibian Constitution. But his deep involvement in tribal politics compromises his standing as national leader. If he is a Swapo member why is he comparing his own party to a ruthless murderer like General von Trotha? As the founding father of the supreme law of the land, Rukoro should always differentiate between Swapo and the government. What has Swapo to do with Otjiserandu or the police? Maybe he wants to find a way to rejoin his original party, Swanu!

Ngarikutuke Tjiriange

Probe

n THE Tjiriange-Andima’s investigation team must start at Nampol’s Special Reserve Force where members are unfairly overlooked by their commanders, and most of the members have been in the rank of constable for more then 15 years because of favouritism and nepotism in the unit.

n OUR President must also see to it that the two man team investigate favouritism, nepotism and tribalism in the Namibia Central Intelligence Service which he is administrating at his office. Like defence and police we, members of NCIS, are also dying of one sided promotions.

Make some noise

n I WANT to air my view on the new by-law about the noise pollution and hosting parties in residential areas. Now people who used to party and drink at their homes will go to clubs and shebeens and burglars will target their houses when it’s quiet and no one is around.

n CITY fathers get serious. To have a braai on a weekend in my backyard with my kids, I have to apply for a permission? Is Namibia a police state now? This reminds me the time I was in the first grade when I had to ask a permission from my class teacher to visit the toilet! History repeats itself.

n HAVE City Police gone mad? I want to have a party/braai on Saturday with a few friends and family. Everything is bought. Can they tell me where I must apply, how much it will cost and how I get compensated should they fail to respond in time? After all, it is the law, so I must apply or City Police will make me a law breaker.

Bouquets and Brickbats

n WHAT touching local stories covered on NBC’s 20h00 news on Tuesday. Thanks to Tonateni for revealing the Okankolo poverty stricken family and to the woman who covered the Okuryangava family. May God bless them abundantly for reaching the low, the toiling, and the forgotten.

– Sir Kupox, Windhoek

n BASE FM need to move up and go national. It’s the station that currently does it for me here in Windhoek. Informative shows and presenters worth listening to, especially ‘Real Talk’ and the ‘Reggae Xplosion Show’. Sadly, I can’t tune in when I am at the coast, in the south, east or north of the country.

n I’M disgusted about Ministry of Health. Someone is painting nails while arson related patients are dying in Grootfontein. President Pohamba recently put up a commission to find out about the deteriorating health sector in our country; another commission on tribalism in Defence; another commission on domestic workers; a commission on dumpsites scavengers. How many more commissions before rectifying obvious problems?

n A BIG thanks to the staff at Katutura Hospital for all they have done and are still doing for my parents. You are great!

n TANGANYIKA group should not be selfish. This country was liberated by all of us. We have been harbouring them in our houses, slaughtering our cattle to free Namibia from imperialism but Tanganyika want to dominate us in everything we do. Please, it’s high time that those who have been fighting inside the country are given a chance. They are also capable of leading us. You had two chances, it’s our turn now!

n SPYL do critical research before you implement your idea. Distribution of condoms at schools is a great insult to the nation. Pregnancy at schools in most cases is not a case for school boys. Your idea promotes sexual intercourse by young citizens. Culturally unacceptable.

– Epson, Outapi

n I AM fully in support of the Ministry of Finance’s 60 per cent import duty on cement, because an investment of more than N$2 billion and hundreds of jobs created by Ohorongo cement could be at risk, while Jack Trading is employing less than 20 employees at their warehouse in Walvis Bay and half of them are Chinese nationals.

n POOR first and second division teams are not paid their legitimate winning money in full? Will that league kick off? I wonder!

n MTC should have rather withdrew it’s sponsorship from football, who’s administration is so useless instead of rugby who at least reached the world Cup!

n THE team appointed by President Pohamba to investigate the alleged corruption in the Namibian Defence Force and Nampol is nothing else but giving money to his comrades. There will be no positive outcome. Why is President Pohamba concerned about a simple allegation while he failed to pronounce himself on the Government Institution Pension Fund issue? Shame on that. Happy were those times when true African leaders were not remote controlled. Long live poor Namibian people.

n JUST a quick SMS to say what a great show, ‘The Week That Was’ is.

n NBC National Radio service and other private radio stations, when will you extend your coverage to Outapi? How can you make the different national election campaign only on TV? Omulunga and Oshiwambo radios are the only ones we can tune into here. Why? Please put your transmitter here!

n CONGRATULATIONS to President Hifikepunye Pohamba for his educational speech in addressing the UN General Assembly in New York, USA. Feeling proudly Namibian.

– Labour Student

n DECLARE Casino Street, in Windhoek a taxi-free zone!

Labour

n MINISTER of Labour must help us working for G4S. There are four different ranks with the same rate per hour; probationer, patrolman, senior patrolman and section leader. All these ranks earn the same rate per hour. Why?

– G4s member

n I SUPPORT the comrade who cancelled his Napwu membership. There is no need to enrich someone who does not care for us civil servants. I also cancelled mine.

n NEVONGA and your Napwu management, don’t be useless front liners. You only like wearing union-bought t-shirts and caps and keep quiet. We need a positive response on salary adjustments for civil servants. Nahas Angula should not only talk about the perks of the President to possibly contest the presidency. Our hard work is making top elements shine, therefore, make us happy too. Napwu take this as a caution.

Education

n AS a parent of a first year Unam law student, I am appalled at the lack of depth, sheer disinterest, no basic knowledge and pathetic planning of the lecturers. I have had enough and wonder if the university even cares. I am transferring my child to a South African university next year because my country’s tertiary education is useless. But the tragic part is, I can afford to move my child but what about the eager and willing students who come from less privileged backgrounds?

n THE school department of Onguti SSS in the Oshikoto Region must do something to improve their learners’ performance as well as the development. We are suffering! We don’t have enough books and facilitated equipment such as computers and they must introduce new fields and subject.

– LA Rumblution

n ABRAHAM Iyambo, we know you can make a change. Why doesn’t NSFAF want people to change from one university to another if the country has freedom of choice? Please talk to your people. We want loans.

n POLYTECHNIC of Namibia, for us who wish to apply for the academic year 2013. How do we go about doing so if the offices have been vacated because every one is striking. The closing date for applications is Friday September 28. Please come to an agreement as we don’t know what to do? This is not fair on us.

– Rejah

n IT’S time the Head of State and Prime Minister intervene in the Polytechnic issue. The institution and its rector are being held hostage by jealous political elements in the Ministry of Education. The institution is technically under financial sanctions imposed by the Education Ministry and the highest offices in the land are just sitting by watching! What inaction is that?

– Concerned citizen

In and from

the Regions

n RURAL water is so expensive. You have your tap and you pay your bill every month but how must I pay N$800. If you have cattle you must pay N$250, why? This is what is happening at Onankali in the Oshikoto Region. Let ACC investigate. We are poor people. We try to pay our bill and we must pay what we never use?

n WHO can help the residents of Ondangwa? Everyday the power goes off without warning and this has damaged and is damaging our electrical appliances everyday. Who can save us from this Nored?
