SMSes for Thursday 20 September 2012

SMS Of The Day *FIRST NAPWU kicks out NUNW SG Kaaronda from Rundu congress! Now Nafau SG is suspended a few weeks before the congress by a faction led by its president. Why do we question why there are so many strikes, if clearly the union leadership’s focus is on characters and greed rather than bread and butter issues! Namibian trade unions is in shambles ... Cry Namibian workers cry! – Ndemufayo Mbwalala

Food for thought
*A FEW years back there was a war of words between one of our well known young Namibian politicians and an honourable about America apparently wanting to take part of Etosha National Park. It came to me that this man might have had a point to argue. What we should know is that America have always [had an] interest in African resources, just imagine today they are talking about Owambo block 174A, 1715, 1814A, 1815A in Etosha National Park. They are saying exploration data in this area dates back to the 1970s to 1990s. Just remember when they were talking about Millennium Challenge Account, they just diverted them to other projects when they failed in their mission. Let us wake up.

*WHY is it that most places, programmes on TV and radio [programmes] are all in Oshiwambo? The vessels of Namport [are] also given an Oshiwambo names. Where are other tribes that also listen, visit such places and even work in such places? We feel sidelined because Oshiwambo seems to be an official language in disguise. Mahangu for me is not English, I call it mauza in my language, why not use Silozi in some of these? We feel sidelined. Act now!

Unions
*MY fellow workers under the umbrella of Napwu , if our union does not engage us in the GIPF issue we are ignoring ourselves. GIPF is depending on our money. Yes, so far GIPF has not failed to pay someone even after it lost a huge amount of money. It means workers are supposed to have more benefits from GIPF, eg loans with less interest and others. GIPF please give benefits.
– Public worker.

*WORKERS unions are not political parties. If the leaders of unions are good in politics, please leave our unions and go where you belong. We want union leaders who put the interest of workers before something else!

*THE humble commodity that Napwu members have is to cancel their membership. It will mean Napwu will be clinically dead.

*CONGRATULATIONS comrade Petrus Nevonga! You were really appointed to be a leader while you were in your mothers womb. No doubt no one can let you down, continue to be a good leader as you are.

Bouquets and Brickbats

*HOW on earth do you dump your own blood? What is going on in this planet? Why do we have unprotected sex if we know that we do not want children? I have many questions but I do not have an answer. Girls please stop doing that, it’s shameful to the whole nation. Us mothers protect our babies, not dump them.

*NO visit the whole week, only Sundays. We are not sentenced but are treated like prisoners. Police officers treat us bad and even beat us. Officers take our money and property from visitors and families and never give it to us. The station is dirty, you can get the smell from the charge office. There is no respect, discipline and justice. Please help our relatives, friends, it’s our fathers and sons, mothers and daughters. Please help!
– Evelyn: Concerned ex-accused from Wanaheda police station.

*THE letter of September 14, accusing The Namibian of being anti-Swapo, is certainly coming from a desperate member who is trying to divorce and de-link party members’ deeds from the mother body while the party’s top hierarchy seem to be turning a blind eye when members perpetuate these unconstitutional deeds. Apart from the recent half-hearted attempt to send a clear message to the protesters by Abraham Iyambo on the Haihambo school saga, nothing is done to hold them accountable for bringing the party’s name and image into disrepute. Look at corruption and jobs for comrade’s schemes, no go areas for other parties, ownership of certain spots and trees in some towns and areas, the list goes on. Who are these people and what is being done? Let us embrace each other and move forward in unison! And let us learn to call a spade a spade!

*PLEASE Minister Kamwi, inform us on the credibility of these students going to study medicine in Russia? What is this all about? How do you get it right? Someone with 18 points in Grade 12 going to be a medical doctor? Are they really eligible?

*MINISTRY of Veterans Affairs, I think the term ‘sons of the war veteran’ should be explained well to the people who were in exile during the struggle. And the relationship between the children of war veterans and the children who left their parents in Namibia. Minister, please tell your people, who are in the field to register the war veterans, to stop referring people to go to the ministry of youth. People over 35 are no longer children.
– A concerned adult who left his parents in the country during the struggle.

*I DISAGREE with Gwen Lister’s comments regarding the rewards given or promised to Johanna Benson for winning the first gold medal for Namibia. The comparison made by Lister is far from this scenario, she talks of the USA, China and many more and their rate of giving rewards. The fact is in our case, it’s the country’s first gold medal, period! Can she tell us what was their reward on their first gold medal winner instead?

*THREE San men give their lives to protect a woman and to die in the most terrible way in a flame hell. They are true heroes of any standard and the world will talk of them. There is probably not space for them at Heroes Acre because they were not Swapo freedom fighters.

*NBC, give us something different rather than repeating sport videos. It’s pathetic.

*TO all the Grade 10 and 12 writing their examinations, good luck and may God give you the strength to tackle the questions very well.
– Rauna Magongo

*THE media has been confusing the readers that Jacob Zuma and recently Morgan Tsvangirai are polygamists. It’s incorrect. Polygamy refers to a man or woman having or marrying more than one spouse. Polygyny means a husband having or marrying more than one wife. Polyandry means a wife having or marrying more than one husband.

*HELLO Namibia! Please Government of the Republic of our beautiful country Namibia, we are suffering! Do something! Some of us are orphans we need jobs. The population of Namibia is very small. Stop nepotism, tribalism and favouritism. It is killing the nation.

Education
*I WENT to Walvis schools to look for a place for my next academic year, 2013 (Grade 11). I’m from Kavango Region as I want to move to the coast due to different circumstances and I was told no learner is supposed to move, only within the region. I even went to the regional offices in Swakop but I was told the same answer. The question is – did Namibia not become independent in 1990? We are told we have freedom of movement. What is wrong? Please do something!

*MINISTER of Education and NIED, please include ‘Road Safety’ from Grades 1 to 10. Then Learners’ License’ in Grade 11 and 12. We must prevent more road accidents.

*TUTORS must take Namcol seriously. Learners attend classes but you are not doing anything. Please tutors do your work. Who else if not you?

*ABRAHAM Iyambo please do something to unemployed graduates. We are tired of being in the street without jobs otherwise we will strike and come camp at your office the way struggle kids do until we are given jobs.

*SCHOOL fees are getting much more expensive. Why do most schools say that if you do not pay your school fees you will not get your report? I am tired of that!

*DEAR inspectors, why do principals of certain schools in the Hardap Region rule school with iron fists? They treat teachers unsympathetically when booked off or when they have medical problems. While the education act makes provision for this. Please help.
– Concerned teacher.

Health
*IS Richard Kamwi misleading Swapo or is Swapo becoming aloof to its voters? I do not think that Swapo does not care. Rather it’s not aware of the consequences for us, the common people, at being given medicine by our doctors. Kamwi is not disadvantaged anymore but most of us who are still disadvantaged depend on the good relationships and kindness of our doctors. Please Kamwi, advise Swapo correctly so that you understand the plight of the common man, the majority of this country!

*WHEN are you going to resolve the issue of dispensing with the doctors? Some of us don’t have enough money to pay at the pharmacy each time. Please consider the poor. I beg you!
– Ms P, Rundu.

*COULD Andrew Ndishishi please explain why going easy on the requirements is not the same as lowering the minimum requirements? And investigating the health sector? For what? Is it not clear what mess it is in? And now Ndishishi creates an even bigger mess. The person claiming double standards in the Health Council and the ECN please come up with examples so that these two organizations can also bring their side.

*HEALTH Professional Council of Namibia must think out of the box. The South African model you are using to comb every health professional with is not the alpha and the omega. Look beyond that. There is a much bigger world. What is always good for the goose is not necessarily always good for the gender.

*I NEED clarification. I went to Oshakati State Hospital on September 13 and that day I paid N$15 to get my medical certificate and the doctor told me to come get my results and get a paper signed. When I came back the doctor sent me to get my paper stamped. When I got there they asked me to pay but others did not. Why do I have to pay another N$15 if I already paid? And why only me?

Civil service
*CIVIL servants complain so much about low salaries but they are afraid to take action!

*TO the source mentioned close to the civil servants wage negotiations, do you know that our country has enough to give but because of people trusted in positions are busy with corruption which thus leaves us in poverty. I support the strike and don’t want to be patient while you get fat and my family is starving, use the press and inform us or is the money missing again.
– Filimon

Lost and Found
*I, C Moller, lost my bag containing my ID and passport at the Miss High School pageant on September 15 at Zoo Park. If found phone or SMS 081-277 4284.
