SMSes for Tuesday 09 October 2012

SMS Of The Day *MUNICIPALITIES do not buy water from God. They do however need to pay NamWater for clean water. Costs are involved in cleaning the water and labour costs money. Just like you and I, the people working at municipalities have families to support and the municipalities therefore need money to pay them. A sane person cannot expect to get water for free. People, please think before sending in your messages.

Food for thought
*PRESIDENT Pohamba, instead of saying yes to your unnecessary salary increase, will it not be patriotic of you to give that to the poorest and voiceless civil servants? Will you be happy if they release all prisoners and down tools as they are threatening to?

*THE CHIEF Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Fatou Bensouda is due to address The Africa Prosecutors Association Conference, in The Land of The Brave where our Prosecutor General declares there’s nothing wrong with building 60 toilets at N$200 000 each in a region where you don’t even need N$100 000 to build a four bedroom house with a kitchen, two bathrooms and a spacious sitting room. I wonder who is going to attend and what are they going to confer?

*THE DIVIDE between RDP on the one hand and Swapo on the other in the Ohangwena Region is lamentable. It needs urgent attention and redress. Watch out! Ministry of Education, please stop victimising teachers regarded as RDP supporters. Education is the heart and soul of Namibians in all shapes and sizes. Get up and support the principal of the Haihambo Primary School. Let injury to one teacher be an injury to all Namibian teachers. See you at the High Court.

*WHAT makes those holding ‘A-power’ above the rest of the world? Israel should keep its mouth shut and leave Iran to pursue its sovereign right to arrive at whatever ambition they may have to uplift themselves. These watchdogs should know that they account for the blood of Palestinians they murder. Namibia should embark on nuclear ambitions as this could move us up the ladder too.

Bouquets and Brickbats
*PRIME Minister, your credibility is under serious question! Just check out the words you use ie “incidental expenses, tax exempted income, a caring society, natural justice, gratuities/pensions and other benefits” etc. Stop this nonsense! Enough is enough! You all pay for nothing anyway, just admit it! Apply your mind and energies to help 1,5 million poor/unemployed/sick and senior citizens (surviving on N$550 per month!) and agree to a 33 per cent package reduction to show you care and that you are not 100 per cent greedy and that you are honest, transparent and sincere about  helping all poor Namibians.
–OAP

*SHAPERS of young minds, producers of tomorrows leaders, planters of seeds that grow into flowers. Trainers of young eagles that spread their wings and fly so high successfully. People who produce success out of failure. People who make something out of nothing... Namibian teachers. Let the Namibian nation be grateful to every teacher. Long live the Namibian teacher. Happy teachers day to every Namibian teacher.
–Tobias Amoonga

*TRANSNAMIB losing N$500 million in two years. It is estimated that billions have been lost since independence through incompetence and corruption. Why must the farmers pay to secure farms when control of corruption and competent management would have given everyone a farm years ago.

*WHAT is the point of the texts in The Namibian if they are filtered before being published? Some of us send texts and they are never published. I feel there is a lot of concealment and there is no ‘telling it like it is’.
– NTK
We receive a lot more messages than we can publish daily. Please keep your text short, sharp, topical and do not use swear words or make defamatory statements.
– News desk

*DO the leaders understand the operations at most of the failing State Owned Enterprises? If they do, why are they not taking drastic measures against those responsible? What is the job of the board of directors? Black empowerment is just there as parasites to taxpayers.

*I LIKE the thriller movies on One Africa.

*I FEEL sorry for the tree that was turned into paper for the sake of the ‘Paparazzi’ page. What a waste of paper just so that someone can pretend to write for People or Heat magazine. Then again I feel sorry for the trees used to make those rags as well.

*THE ATM millionaire should be hailed as a hero and Standard Bank be shamed for their stupidity and lack of proper security systems! Stop wasting money on psychiatric observation, there’s nothing wrong with his brain.

*HOW can we celebrate Teacher’s Day while the masses of teachers in Namibia live in poverty and informal settlements because of a lack of housing?

*WHAT does the President do with N$2 million a year? Workers’ jobs are under threat and costs for the normal person in the street are rising. Yet GRN is creating another executive gravy train! Poor performance and enrichment is the credo.
– Disappointed voter and taxpayer

*I FULLY support Government’s decision to hike the tax on commercial farms. These rich elite just buy farms to avoid paying tax in their personal capacities. They offset their personal income against the so called loss they make for running their farms thus resulting in zero income flow to state coffers. I recommend that the Ministry of Finance seriously take a look at these farmers income.

*NO NAMIBIAN businessman will allow some black man he/she does not know to buy on credit for such a big amount like they allowed Pienaar. Believe it or not his skin colour was on his side. Especially in the Karas Region.

*I SUPPORT the idea for the establishment of such a beautiful industrial complex in Congo/DRC to market Namibian products. Perhaps the Trade Ministry, in conjunction with the Windhoek Show Society, should consider joining forces to demolish the existing Windhoek Show complex and build a replica, similar to the one to be built in the DRC, to make it look appealing for users. The existing buildings look really ugly and disgusting!

*FOR heaven’s sake, what makes Air Namibia an essential service provider?

*SWAPO government has lost vision indeed! How on earth can government plan to build a multi billion dollar complex in Lubumbashi (Congo), while Namibian children are being taught under trees! Are we not good enough to benefit from our own economy or maybe another way of enriching the already rich owners of the DRC mine? Please officials, the nation is tired of your daylight looting!
– Immanuel, Rundu

Labour
*IT IS very shameful how union leaders are fighting for positions, not to defend the worker’s bread and butter issues, but for their own agendas.

*IS it legal for a company to let employees work Saturdays, Sundays and long weekends and not pay them overtime just because they are shift workers? I need a reply from the Labour Ministry please!

*NAMIBIA ‘Land of the Grave’, working for Air Namibia for three years with a salary of N$1 600 with no benefits. Our labour system is failing us big time.

*WE, employees of Namibia Dairies are so disappointed with the way they are treating us. Management can’t be challenged. It is so scary.

*THERE is definitely something wrong with our labour laws. All over town pubs and restaurants are understaffed. The owners feel employees have become too big a risk because the labour courts are against them. We are not creating jobs as we should.

*NO-NO-NO! The President and the Prime Minister and all ministers cannot possibly need a salary increase! They all live virtually free of charge and increases in the costs of living do not affect their affluent/luxurious lifestyles while over one million Namibians are dying from starvation and dire circumstances! President Pohamba, lead by good example. Rather motivate all your ministers and advisers to rather take a 30 per cent reduction in salary packages, to show you actually care for the poor and needy!

*WHY do we keep paying high taxes whilst we don’t even get anything in return. If our kids could at least enjoy free education we would understand. We are even taxed on pension whilst paying tax all year round. I plead for the government to review these policies because in the previous regime we never had rights to vote but now that we have a government we can call our own, we are worse off!

Response to Previous SMSes

*RESPONSE to SMS on October 5. Dear Daniel, the management didn’t do anything wrong by sending you home for not wearing a proper uniform and locking the gate for late coming. They are merely teaching you discipline. Wear a proper uniform and come early to school and let the teachers do what they are paid to do. And parents play your part to instil moral values and discipline into your children.
