Food for Thought
*MR Tarah Shaanika of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) on ‘Open File’ says: ‘We are still economically colonised by South Africa’. Now Mr Shaanika whose fault is it after more than 22 years of independence?
Bouquets and Brickbats
*I AM so overwhelmed with joy and amazingly happy with the story on Sannatjie the Namibian San girl and her modelling career. I love the story.
*CONGRATULATIONS to both Gregory Gorbett and our own Sannatjie Keinamses. May the sky be the limit in her future. This is what is called ploughing back in the very communities that stood to benefit from activity in their vicinity. May others emulate Gorbett. To many in my area social responsibility is a ‘swear word’.

*THANK you to all the dedicated and hard working people around the country who are helping to and have helped to kill all the veld fires that are destroying your country.
*CONGRATULATIONS go to Jerry Ekandjo for saving the nation in the beyond reach land prices. I salute you as a true son of the nation.
*WHAT a great relief to page through The Namibian and not see that Hengari guy’s column!
*GET your facts correct about the Kora nomination. Gal Level was not the first Namibian group nominated for the Kora awards, it was Sharon van Rooi’s band and then Stella Kavendjii. All had been nominated before.
Politics
*THE Cabinet decision to employ only the children of the liberation struggle is a challenge and an insult to all Namibians who were not in exile. The earlier you stand up and fight for your rights as non-returnees the better. This country and government are not the private property of one political party.
*THE reservation by the Prime Minister, Nahas Angula, of all jobs for ‘struggle kids’ is a declaration of discrimination between people, those who were outside and those who were inside, the country during the liberation struggle. The suffering of the unemployed people, especially the youth, is equally painful whether you are a ‘struggle kid’, an orphan due to HIV-AIDS or any other circumstance. It is unfair to reserve jobs for struggle kids and ignore other children’s suffering. We have been independent for 22 years. When is discrimination between those who were outside and those who were inside going to end? Which discrimination is unconstitutional!
A Question of Land
*TO the Minister of Lands & Resettlement, Alpheus !Naruseb: Why is the advertising of resettlement farms so slow? We need land for farming.
Rest in Peace
*MY fellow Christians I woke up so early this (Sunday) morning to mourn Rev Titus ‘Kasindani’ ka Ngula very deeply. To me Rev Kasindani ka Ngula was a principled, very wise and even handed spiritual hero who tirelessly struggled for truth, justice and fairness in our country. His passing leaves behind a colossal vacuum which no one else can fill. So Tate Rev Kasindani may your soul rest in perpetual peace!

Education
*MINISTER A Iyambo you said on Thursday on One Africa TV news that teachers will get the salary increase. Please give us the date.
*THE library at Otjiwarongo urgently needs airconditioners. It is extremely hot. Director of Education please do something.
*UNAM will ban thousands of students from poor families from writing their end of year exams unless they settle their accounts by November 2. Many Primary education students drop out due to pregnancies. Is banning one from exams a solution in the interest of the future of this country. Can Minister of Education Abraham Iyambo stop this cruelty?
*WE have been five months without our trade test certificates and statements of results from the National Training Authority. First you said we would get them at the end of August and the beginning of September. Nothing happened. Then you said on October 8 and now you are telling us the end of October. Please you are denying us our job as companies need our qualifications. Minister Iyambo help us also.
*I CHALLENGE the Ministry of Education to investigate issues that transpired at Ongenga Junior Secondary School in Ohangwena region. The academic performance is going down constantly, parents have no say in their children’s education and they are treated like children. Children are suspended for months for not combing or cutting their hair and their confiscated clothes are burnt. And learners at that school have no manners.
Law and Order
*CAN Windhoek City Police do something to these people who do business where we are supposed to walk.
*WHO authorised the bus/taxi rank on the Katutura off ramp onto the B1?
*MOTOR vehicle accidents cannot be reduced by law enforcement people. It is the responsibility of the drivers. We are impatient, negligent, irresponsible and some want to show off their driving skills after a drinking session. Let us become responsible citizens and learn to be patient.
*CAN the Namibian traffic/police officers keep big trucks with linked trailer/trailers at the Truckport? They drive very badly on the streets between houses. Or fines should be given out to them. Please do something.
Labour Issues
*MY goodness, the government must do something about our payslips which are open for all to see. School principals at some schools check our payslips and know everything about staff members which should be confidential. This is a matter of concern.
In and From the Regions
*THE call by the Swapo government to the traditional leaders to make more communal land available for the extension of or more new towns, especially in the north, is unacceptable. Swapo is messing up the north with many towns. Please buy farm lands and create towns if you want more towns because you are putting more pressure on us the poor subsistence people.
*OUTAPI Town Council how can you charge street vendors N$250 a month? Please a fat cake business can it rarely get that?
*OMULONGA constituency councillor, when will we get water in Onangwe? When will the road from Ondobe off Eenhana to Oshidjambo get tarred? We are tired of empty promises!
Service Please
*MANY of Windhoek’s hardware stores have poor customer service, irritating security checks and very slow tellers. Vakwetu.
ACC Alert
*WE don’t understand how the Omusati Regional Council awarded the schools construction tenders. Why are the tenders given to the companies that are not registered and not from Omusati? We want this thing explained.

Responses to recent SMSes
*Swakopmund Matters’ response to Namibia being awarded a high profile award at the United Nations Biodiversity Summit in recognition of its outstanding ocean policies – 19 October 2012
When asked Swakopmund Matters responded as follows on this wonderful achievement:
We all in Namibia convey our profound gratitude and sincere congratulations to all those who have spent their time and efforts with so much dedication to make this distinction possible.
By accepting the award Namibia is reassuring the world that it is capable of looking after and protecting its great marine assets with great responsibility. And, that it will continue to do so.
This message is not only for the outside world to take due note of, but, more specifically, even more valid for those who would upset this delicately achieved equilibrium with highly contentious projects like marine phosphate mining.
– Swakopmund Matters
*TO the lady writing in support of Ruusa Shipanga. If you don’t want a colonial system you should give up your western lifestyle, go back to the village, please the man your father has chosen for you and give up all your rights as an independent woman. If you don’t like that idea stop complaining and use the system that allows you to be who you are.
