Food for Thought
n WHY is that only the minority and the so-called elite continue to enjoy the best and/or the most. When are we to take a stand as a nation against the private sector and the government and organise a national strike or did we became so weak to be lied to and taken advantage of, just because we are a peace loving nation? We only have ourselves to blame unless we stop the unjust practices ourselves. Forget what party we belong to or colour you are and let’s take a stand all together. The time is now and we cannot be ripped off forever. Why can’t Namibia be different in its approach to make a better living for all and stop hiking the cost of everything, yet our salaries remain the same, why?
n GEORGE Simataa, a fair question: How much does consultant Lovemore Mbigi charge to issue “doctoral degrees”? There are many unemployed Namibians who would welcome the opportunity.
n DEAR NNFU please wake up! Our country is experiencing chronic shortage of Lucerne. Encourage communal farmers to produce Lucerne! Take that opportunity and fill that gap.
– GKM
n WHY do we wonder why the crime rate and drug dealings are so high. Magistrates, I urge you, wake up and see the reality. Cases have been drawn out and fines as cheap as N$500 are given although they have previous cases. Pathetic! The moment they get out they start smuggling again. If we can’t beat them, eat their pockets, it’s blood money. Sick and tired.
n MAYBE Hakahana clinic is sending a distress signal to the Minister of Health. (re upside down flag in The Namibian recently).
n OHORONGO Cement must reduce its price because they don’t import any materials. They are so expensive. That’s the reason people are importing cheaper cement. Let’s be fair and not punish SMEs. They’ve invested a lot but are killing the market because they are the only ones who have cement. You are forced to buy their cement. Government must put price controls in place and not protect the company because some individuals have interests in it. Let’s play fair because this is our country.
Education
Tjama Tjivikua
n POLYTECHNIC of Namibia, we who are going to graduate in October, have not yet received any formal invitations for the graduation ceremony. This should have been done a long time back!
n MINISTRY of Education, wake up before it is too late! Your well qualified, but unappreciated teachers are all going to run away to the private sector if you don’t change the salary structure quickly. Who can blame them, when they get a more reasonable workload for almost double the salary? This exploitative treatment of our teachers must stop now! We were patient for too long!
n ABRAHAM Iyambo, is Oshakati campus a private campus? If it’s not, why are they chasing us out so early? Grade 12s want to use this place 24/7 to study. In Ankampya we cannot concentrate. Please let them leave us in peace to study.
– T ya Petrus, Oshakati
n ABRAHAM Iyambo when will the teachers who have specialised in Agriculture be promoted? We are sick and tired of being abused emotionally, being servants of maths and physical science heads of department who think they are angels. Are we trained to be teachers for life? Take action quickly before we strike. It seems Agriculture is not an important subject.
– Concerned Agriculture teacher
Make some noise
n WHAT about the next Swapo congress in December? Do the Swapo comrades have to apply for permission in advance for a party after the results of the next presidential candidate are announced? Shikesho beware, you are running short of ideas.
n ARE we to be arrested when celebrating a Brave Warrior’s victory if we throw them a party without getting permission?
n NAMIBIANS be wise, why arrest a person who plays music in his/her own car? Women are killed everyday, what do you do? Nothing! What is more precious, life or music? Let people enjoy music.
n IF party goers had behaved from the outset and taken their neighbours into consideration, these drastic measures would not have been necessary. Bravo municipality! Let’s stamp out these hooligans and their sick behaviour!
Bouquets and Brickbats
n I AM very disappointed to learn that the youth, who are our future leaders, came up with a proposal for condom distribution that indirectly encourages sex instead of empowering the youth with moral, Christian and cultural values. This a shame. Where are we heading?
– Concerned Parent
n THUMBS up to Nampol. I phoned 10111 to report a case where my neighbour was beating his partner. The phone was answered quickly and very professionally at 03h45. 15 minutes later there were police officers on the scene. Well done Nampol.
n NWR please make Aupindi pay back the millions in bonuses he received. His turnaround plan has failed now and our tax money must pay for his mistakes.
n MTC, have you checked how much you’ve invested in soccer and what return you’ve received from your bottomless pit of an investment so far? Absolutely zero. Namibia just doesn’t have talented soccer players. So stop fantasising that soccer in Namibia will ever get somewhere. What do you really think you can or will achieve by investing millions in soccer and nothing in rugby?
n WHY are most of the young taxi drivers always on their cellphones while driving! Driving next to them is no fun because they are never aware of what’s happening on the road so they can bump into you at any time. And why stick the right arm out of the vehicle? City Police please keep your eyes open.
n A FRIENDLY warning to Government: By the time they open their eyes on issues at TransNamib, the board and management would have sold the whole company and there will be no TransNamib anymore! We need a new board and a new CEO for the good of the company. Government, stop turning a blind eye to TransNamib! ACC has come and gone ... no arrests yet!
– Concerned employee
n THE three San men who gave their lives to protect the life of a tourist are true heroes. Will Namibia recognise them?
n Nghimtima said, “TransNamib is a profitable company but the problem is mismanagement.” Who were arrested in that matter or investigated?
n SHAME on the Namibian government! Unable to assist the San people at Okankolo Constituency while the head of state plans to increase his own salary.
n MARTHA Mukaiwa’s review of ‘Die Wonderwerker’ is excellent, as usual. Read it again after seeing the film and am impressed with her broad background knowledge.
n THE archive article in Wednesday’s issue about meme Monica Kamulungu ‘Mother relives horrific tale of baby’s death’ really is heartbreaking, to say the least. Ministry of Veterans Affairs, I trust meme Monica has already received a victims’ benefit social grant of some sort. If she is already passed on how about a cash payout to Gideon Shivute for his loss?
– Vickson Hangula
n ACC should come and rescue us at the Namibian navy. We are suffering! These commanders are only sending their kids, family members and relatives to foreign courses.
n NBC it’s a big disappointment not to show the international gospel show. Sies tog!
n COME on corporate Namibia, do more for our heroine Benson. Old Mutual you surely can do better than N$10 000!
n WHY are locally-made products more expensive than imported products? Look at the price of chicken and milk. We cannot afford it at all.
n PRIME Minister, what exactly do you mean by ‘Incidental Expenses’? You should be ashamed! You know that you and your comrades don’t have to pay or pay much for most things! While over one million unemployed, sick, thirsty and hungry Namibians live in appalling circumstances! Stop your greed. Work for the poor, and please get your priorities right asap.
n Swapo, please explain. Why does the SPYL only have adults on their committee?
n THANKS Shoprite Swakop for a very pleasant change in the shop. Keep it that way and we will be back.
n Why do we have to scram for seats at NTN when they have a perfectly good, computerised seating system? Patrons book their seats of choice long before the time only to arrive at the theatre and find that their seats have been taken because of the “free seating” system.
n TRUSTCO and Shoprite, you have done it again. This life cover will mean so much to the lives of the ordinary Namibians. You help us to at least give our children something when we are no more.
– Tsumkwe writer
n IT has now become a routine for the municipality to switch off the electricity in Windhoek. We, the residents, are tired of this.
n NBC staff, I must say ‘Seize the Day’ was indeed educative, inspirational and motivational and was played at the appropriate time, coinciding with the Paralympics and when Johanna Benson showed Namibia that we can achieve a lot even with our physical shortcomings! Thank you.
– Zak Dirkse, Keetmanshoop
Labour
n DROS Windhoek deducts tax from their waiters while their basic salaries are N$1500. Ministry of Finance, how is that possible?
n MINISTRY of Labour, please do something at Namib Clothing in Swakopmund. Please help us.
n I ONCE took a decision to cancel my membership with Napwu and joined another union. To tell those who want to cancel or have cancelled their membership with Napwu, other unions are a compromise. I am back home now. Viva Napwu!
n MINISTRY of Labour, I would like to ask if you could make a positive change for us! Do your work! For how long does a person have to work as a casual?
n I FAIL to understand what’s happening in our country. Is it only the struggle kids who are in need of jobs. We are suffering here in the south because we are unemployed while we completed Grade 12. If it’s Nampol recruiting then it seems the struggle kids are considered first. I really want to join the Namibian Police because I want to do something productive for my country. I would love to know when Nampol is recruiting again. I would like the Lieutenant General of Nampol to respond.
n PRESIDENT Pohamba, there are contract positions for data entry clerks in the Ministry of Home Affairs. The officials are only recruiting their family to later appoint them permanently. Nepotism is very bad!
Probe
n TJIRIANGE and Andima, when you come to Outapi please talk directly with the constables because they are the ones mostly affected by nepotism and favouritism.
n THANKS my President for appointing two veterans to probe the security forces. I suggest there should be a permanent security ombudsman-council, established by an act of Parliament, to monitor and remedy the administration of the security forces. We don’t want the forces of frustrated men, because this can put our safety, security, peace, stability and economic growth at risk. These guys have nowhere to cry. Instead they resort to alcohol abuse, risky sexual behaviour, domestic violence, absenteeism, and other embarrassing and unprofessional conduct. All due to stress and hopelessness. A frustrated defence/police force is a time bomb.
n MINISTER of Defence, you are doing nothing in your office. Is this ministry benefiting only some people and their families or what? If that is the reason, why are we working in the NDF? What is this? No access to houses, cars and no family support! You are letting us down. Whenever we want to study, you are giving us unpaid study leave because we are not known. Do you think we will come back after our classes as we had used our parents’ money? Pull up your socks, this is peace time!
Service Please
n BANK Windhoek ATMs in Rundu are always out of order. Over weekends it is worse than during week days. I understand that they are too old but why don’t they purchase new ATMs.
– Concerned client
n I PUT in a claim for bail money to be refunded for a person who was wrongly accused in 2009. Up to this day I have not received my money back. I called the claims offices but every time they give excuses. Sometimes the number 061 237065 just rings. I was referred to a woman but she is never in her office. I believe that the airtime I used to call the magistrate claims department is more than the N$1 000 they owe me.
n I WONDER why soldiers and police officers vote if we don’t have a say in politics and don’t have the right to demonstrate like others!
n I’M a teacher who worked in the census campaign last year in the Ondangwa Constituency. I have not yet receive a the remaining amount of N$3 800. I’m concerned about this!
