SMSes for Friday 19 October 2012

SMS Of The Day *HOW long must Namibians wait for consumer protection and access to information legislation? Is our society not educated enough to know and express their civil rights and demand performance from their government? Or have party politics become more important than national interests?

Food for Thought
*BY increasing the number of civil servants in an already bloated and somewhat dysfunctional civil service, it is clear that Government has fully embraced the principle of a Basic Income Grant.

*“THERE is no reason why land is so expensive” – there is: a demand of land higher than what is available for sale on the market. Regulation of prices will not make more land available as it cannot alter the fact that local governments and municipalities are not able to service enough land. It will just open the door to dubious practices of giving land to family or party members and not to those in need.

*DO we really need Workers’ Union to affiliate to political parties? Teachers are now complaining of Haingura not delivering. Haingura wants to be in Parliament too, just like other former unionists. He will listen more to the comrades and mess you around. Enough is enough!

*WHY don’t NFA also bring the junior referee course to the Hardap and Karas Regions? We are having students who are capable of being referees.

*I USED to read The Namibian on a daily basis and cannot understand the word regularly used at the end of the sentence the word is [sic], please news desk?
– It is used after a quoted word that appears odd or erroneous to show that the word is quoted exactly as it stands in the original.
– News desk

*MINISTER Jerry Ekandjo submitted an amendment of Section 63 of the Local Authorities Act to Cabinet. Hmm, why now after so many years of suffering? And he said ‘soon’ government will regulate town land prices. My question is how soon?
– Omes Walvis Bay

*WHEN it comes to democracy, of freedom of speech or expression, there’s no ‘Open Line’ at National Radio and Oshiwambo radio service. People are crying behind a wall. How can someone lead well if he or she does not want to hear from people under his or her leadership.

*ACCIDENTS are not caused by new drivers but by those who are proud that they have 20 years of experience. It is an attitude. People are speeding and overtaking at wrong places. Law enforcement must just be strengthened.

*NOWADAYS there is no price differences between a rental room in Katutura and Eros. Why are we killing our own people with higher rental prices? Please Namibians let’s give privilege to our fellow country men who need accommodation before foreigners. Who can help us on this issue, as the Government turns the blind eye to us?

*I don’t feel like belonging in Namibia without a place which I can call my own. I’m married with six children but rent because we can’t afford the exorbitant prices. I wonder what the meaning of Vision 2030 is.

*BABY dumping won’t stop as long as you advertise sex. Promote abstinence firstly, then ban porn! Parents must teach their children moral values daily.

Bouquets and Brickbats

*I AM sick and tired of seeing all these demands from veterans. They were given N$50 000, now those who were at Cassinga in Angola are demanding N$200 000 each again. They already wasted money instead of giving it to the people who are currently looking after the country. Without them this country is going down and crime will increase. And no one is going to maintain law and order. Let’s give money to our police officers! President Pohamba, you must do something about these sons and daughters of our. Stop wasting money for nothing.

*CAN the City Police inform the public on where kids can safely skate without being threatened by gun wielding police officers?

*GENERAL Ndeitunga don’t be selfish we know your pay is more than N$50 000 a month, more than a constable’s annual salary! Stop threatening your members. They deserve a better salary too. You have a car and housing scheme but if they are to buy a car, it’s a tenth-hand car.

*NAMIBIANS like others to give us privileges but we don’t do that. There was a time when non Namibians, despite being permanent residents, weren’t accepted. Now South Africa is at the discussion level to see how they can accommodate their own citizens and permanent residents. We Namibians are mourning! One hand gives the other receives you cant always be the receiver. Eish...

*I’M supporting Ruusa Shipanga in terms of her divorce problem, that she is married in community of property. The same applies to me. I married in the Oshana Region. The pastor explained in detail that he was only proceeding in community of property and if I want to marry out of community of property I should bring my lawyers to the church. Why should we follow the colonial rule system in an independent Namibia? Namibian justice should look at this as an urgent matter before the court proceedings of the Shipanga family.

*THERE are some honourable ministers who have been ministers since 1990 to present. Are their performances excellent or will they be ministers for life? They served us enough, I therefore suggest that some should retire and be replaced by young blood. President Pohamba, why can’t you make your ministers sign performance contracts? If one fails to meet a particular target then you show him or her the door. We’re all tired of poor service delivery and corruption while the masses are suffering.
– Mr Tired

*OUR unusual hero, Cgunta Khao//khao of the San Community who survived the fire fight that killed three member of his group while trying to save the life of a tourist (The Namibian newspaper, October 17, page 3) deserves recognition. A street name will do.
– Naligaluke

*NAMCOR succeeded by milking the nation with the petrol price?

*NGARIKUTUKE Tjiriange and your team please go to Ministry of Defence and ask why they are taking long to pay the artisans they employed in 2010 like other ministries are doing? Since 2010 up to now they are discussing, what do they discuss?

*SOME of us war veterans who applied for cattle for our projects are disappointed. We see others receive tractors, taxis, building flats but where is our cattle? Is it a matter of some people being more equal than others?

*WE SMEs are tired of being butter smeared by politicians, why does Bank of Namibia not want to allow the establishment of an SME bank which sounds more beneficial to us. Because we will get funds without collateral that is required by Development Bank of Namibia and yet unaffordable by most of us.

*I WANT to thank Dr J Katumwa for saving my daughter’s life on Tuesday, October 16 2012, and even called her on Wednesday October 17, just to hear how she’s doing! Thank you Dr, you will never imagine how thankful I am. God bless you and your family.
– Ms Van Wyk

*GIPF managers and employees! Stop psychologically and emotionally torturing the pensioners with your silly registration and verification! Find another way! You don’t understand how it feels to be a pensioner due to the death of one’s husband, wife and parents. You torture them to the limit!

*THE Namibian team, You guys should create a column just for excellent services by companies. All we do is complain. We need to compliment good service as well.

*ANTI-CORRUPTION Commission boss lecturing traditional leaders on corruption is a welcome move. We hope this warning was taken seriously.
– Concerned /Gobanib.

*CITY of Windhoek stop giving our information to companies like Pupkewitz and Ark Trading. It’s really unethical and unprofessional.

*OUR people have no self-respect. They strike and demand wage increases with banners that are rife with spelling mistakes. How did they get their jobs in the first place?

*DOREEN Sioka was appealing to the traditional leaders to assist government to fight moral decay in this country. My advice to her is to go back to her government who created the whole mess of moral decay, violence, corruption etc, to reverse many of the inconsiderate laws that they have created which served as a fertile ground. This was not the case in the pre-independence period.

*CITY of Windhoek is so unfair with taxi drivers that operate from Tal street next to KFC bus stop. Unam students are suffering to get a cab from Katutura to Unam. We get dropped at that area where they are chasing the taxi drivers away. Where are they going to make a living?

*NESTOR Tobias, let your champion Prince Naidjala box against a top rated South African boxer and not the palookas of Tanzania. You know it takes a champion to show what he is worth if he can stand his ground against a top rated opponent. Use South African rated boxers and let’s us see who is fooling who!

*CUSTOMS at Noordoewer border, we are tired of your loudspeaker to warn people about your scanners. We can’t sleep. Recruit security.

*JERRY Ekandjo, the best thing you have done for the country is the local authorities land bill. Could this be to expand farm land also? Cabinet please support.

*WHY do some wives of ministers involve themselves in their husband’s office work. These women don’t even work for the government.

Politics
*IT is obvious! Swapo is in a total mess. Think of Ngurare vs Kazenambo, the unilateral nomination of Jerry Ekandjo by Ngurare, the retired army generals’ saga by SPYL, Haihambo PS saga, siding with some traditional leaders, corruption within many government structures and SOEs, nonsense utterances on daily basis by high ranking officials, just to mention a few examples.

*WHY may only a few important persons decide and dictate who will lead our country in future? This is not a democracy. It’s a dictatorship through and through!

*THIS is a kind request to President Pohamba to please stay out of the upcoming Swapo Congress elections. If he persists in garnering support for his preferred candidate, it might end up embarrassing him in the end. This is a democratic country and therefore we have the right to vote for their preferred candidate without being pressured. If he wants to avoid what happened in 2004, he can continue as he is doing now. All candidates should campaign on their own and garner their own support and no candidate should be pressured to back out as well. It will be a pity if 2004 is repeated. We all can see what it has done to the party and the country. Please Comrade President stay out of the race, all you are doing is causing further division in an already fragile party.

Service Please
*ON October 13 2012, I visited FNB foreign exchange on the first floor. I must say that I received the worst treatment I have ever received from any services provider. The lady who assisted me first was very rude, and she had an angry face on the whole time. To a certain extent I even felt that the service I received was racially biased. That was very bad customer service.

*TELECOM, stop advertising your Speedlink. It does not work. It never worked and MTC your G4 also does not work. You two giants are really taking each and everyone in this country for a ride and we allow you? Customers stop paying for services you  do not get. Speedlink and G4 do not function at all and will not for a long time!

*MINISTER of Home Affairs, it seems you are promoting typing errors and spelling mistakes within your ministry. Or why are clients with typing errors and spelling mistakes in identity documents charged for corrections? Your people are working carelessly because you do not ask them to be accountable for their mistakes. We are tired.

*ALL banks clear GRN cheques immediately except Bank WHK. Why?

*CITY of Windhoek, are staff not able to think and plan properly for maintenance of the public swimming pools so they can open at the start of September? The pools have cost us taxpayers millions and now nobody can use them. What an embarrassment! What is the mayor doing?

*OSHAKATI Game, Etango and Yetu complex, your malls are disturbingly filthy on Sundays. Why don’t you have shifts for the cleaners? We want to shop in a clean and civil environment.

*DEAR Patrick Nandago of Home Affairs, there were no birth certificates on October 3, 4 and 8 at Katutura Hospital. On October 8, two books from Keetmanshoop arrived. Please admit your problem, say sorry and sort it out but don’t put the blame on your colleagues or the public at the hospital. Sort out the problem because it is not the first time. The same goes for the passport books. Why is it so difficult to admit, say sorry and do it better?

*STANDARD Bank Windhoek Home Loans don’t do their work effectively. That is why they are making a lot of mistakes. I am waiting for them to draft a letter to my employer but up to now I haven’t received anything. I call everyday but they say they are busy and can’t write my letter. Is my letter not part of Standard Bank’s duties or until when should I wait?

NBC
*NAMIBIA is a secular state but the majority are Christian. The current presenter of the programme ‘Tupopyeni’ on NBC is busy promoting new age ideologies. It’s very subtle but those with eyes and ears do see and hear the hidden message. Don’t abuse the platform please!

*PLEASE NBC get the Namibian Police General or Minister of Safety and Security on ‘One on One’. They are killing the officers morale.

Response to Previous SMSes

*TO the sender of the SMS of October 17 2012, criticising Governor Swartbooi for his engagement celebration, you should know that Swartbooi is a citizen like anyone else and has all the rights to do as he pleases in his personal capacity. Stop complaining about people’s private lives.

Health
*MINISTER Kamwi, thank you for having your nation’s interests at heart. It is about the fertility clinic which is in the capital now. It is very productive but I think this clinic is meant for rich people only and us poor people will not have children at all. This clinic is very expensive. Please rescue us.
– Poor infertile couple

*MINISTER Kamwi, my mother and 12 other patients are hospitalised in Oshakati hospital ward 6, accommodated on a mattress in the ward corridor. I understand it is a transit ward but we deserve to be treated humanely. Come on.

Education
*DEAR parents, if you want to be involved in the education of your child attend parent meetings and school board elections. By only coming to school when you enrol your child and then vanish for the rest of the year does not make you an active participant in the development of this precious nation.

*OSHANA Education Directorate have over the past three years lost its young, competent, dynamic and committed teachers who put the region on the map as one of the top performing regions in the country to take up HODs, Principals and Education officers posts to regions such as Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto. These three regions will soon overtake Oshana because they now have what it takes to compete, they will come out on top. That’s a promise.

*HOW can NTA make level one trainees write a level three question paper? Or should we blame Windhoek VTC? This is seriously a bad thing! Minister of Education, we need you.

*ACCORDING to what are student representatives at Oshakati campus selected? People with no leadership qualities are chosen. This must be a joke. Your way of picking students to represent other students is very weak and wrong. It’s not fair. Next year’s committee is a joke. We want real leaders, not jokes.

*I’M a Namcol learner who wrote a Geography exam last Friday. It’s unfair that paper three was given two hours while paper two was one hour and 45 minutes. Markers and examiners, including the ministry, please look on this matter before you mark. Most of the learners didn’t finish paper two. It’s unfair and that paper needs time or extra time.

Labour Issues
*I WONDER if the Minister and the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture know about the salary of the watchman in the directorate of Veterinary Services. We work 24 hours for 21 days and get just one day off every month. Our salary is the same as the registration fee of Unam and Poly. How will we send our children to any institutions with these peanuts?

*KHOMAS Regional Council, we are volunteers at Constituencies in Khomas, CACOCs, the Racoc implementer, since we support HIV-Aids on behalf of the Ministry of Regional Local Government, and we are not even paid. Until when are we going to volunteer? And the government is sucking our blood. They use our information to do their reports countrywide about HIV-Aids. We also need money or they must employ us permanently. Please Minister investigate this matter.

*WHY does the NDF not want to give full time studies? They are telling newly recruited soldiers that they must serve for two consecutive years before they can study. People are having their qualification, and you won’t be promoted if you do not have anything to show on paper. Minister do something!

*GIPF saga is not over? Is it true that TransNamib’s Board of Directors want to withdraw some cents from TransNamib’s retirement fund for its daily operations?

*PLEASE, Nantu and Napwu, inform GRN workers if you are negotiating for salary hikes to start back from April 2012 as was believed to be the case.

*DEAR comrade Nevonga and Minister Ndaitwah please do not forget to push for MET danger allowances during this negotiation as it is long overdue.
– Long serving ranger.

*MD of Pick n Pay Namibia, tell me how can someone survive on a salary of N$1 200? You know it’s impossible for someone who has to pay water and electricity, school fees, taxi fare etc but Pick n Pay was recently voted as “best company to work for”?

*ROSSING Uranium former workers (deceased members) wives, husbands and children must come together urgently. Rossing big cats are planning to exclude us from the surplus money. Comrades please pass this message on in our different ethnic languages. Contact me on 0812087828.

*WHAT happened to the data typist post for Oshana Education? We wrote a practical test on August 13, but until now nothing has happened, we are now doubting, because they don’t give us even an invitation letter.
