Food for thought
*WHY do they have to close the shebeens while there is a state visit of the president of Togo? What do they want to show him? No peace in the country poo? Wake up Namibian nation.
*SEVENTY-nine per cent of Namibian consumed goods come from South Africa. Seriously? Then what are you Namibians doing with the thousand hectares of land that you own or is it all for holidays and status? Shame!
*NAMIBIA is losing a lot of money in the country instead of building factories and getting experts from developed countries to come and train Namibians to stand on their own feet. Now the country is suffering when South Africa is on strike. Wake up Namibia.
– A concerned war veteran who will receive nothing from the Ministry of War Veterans.
*WHY on earth can’t Namibian passports be valid for ten years? The Ministry of Home Affairs is clearly not coping with all it’s responsibilities at the moment. Is it just a money-making scheme?
*WE are always told to pursue certain careers like those in ICTs, geology, science and mathematics. The only jobs that those who do these courses can do is lecturing, competing with politicians and tender-preneurs. Let everyone do what he or she likes.
*TO those who are searching for passion killing solutions, first know the cause of it. Otherwise they must forget about seeing a solution in this life. People must repent and depend on themselves.

*THANKS to the Ohangwena Education Directorate for transporting staff members due to the lack of accommodation in Eenhana. The Chief Regional officer (CRO) should extend the transporting period from October 31 to December 2012 while the staff members are securing accommodation in Eenhana. We are suffering, please CRO hear our problem.
*PLEASE, Sam Nujoma, I really need that one way ticket out of Namibia. I can’t suffer in poverty while the servant of the people (President) gets salary increments. I’m tired, please give me that one way ticket out!
– Mfana
*WHY does the President only intervene in certain parastatals. NAC, NBC and several mines had wage disputes and even on strike for a few weeks. Is Transnamib his only concern in this country?
*EENHANA NaTis must be investigated seriously. Most men fail but that is not the case with women. Many women fail at other centres from other regions and flock to Eenhana. Women issued licences here struggle to reverse, park or to use mirrors. This is not personal or libellous.
*I SAY Nampol must leave the shebeens, they are not hurting anybody. Take them out of a job and you increase the crime. Leave the shebeens.
– NM
*THEY hunted Gerry Munyama down for N$150 000 and sent him to jail. GIPF selfish fat cat criminals must also be exposed and prosecuted. Namibia is drowning in corruption while the poor are suffering.
*I WAS delighted to see Obama and Romney campaigning by telling Americans what they were planing to do once elected! The Swapo Presidential hopeful must do the same so that we know who to support.
*QUOTAS in cricket what! There aren’t even enough black cricketers in the country and how many whites are in the Brave Warriors. Race isn’t just one colour, it’s every colour. Please Namibia show me and every Namibian that we are true citizens of the world!
*‘CRICKET set for quota system’ – The Namibian of Wedneday, October 10 clearly indicates: 1. That this is only the tip of the iceberg of the rot in cricket; 2. Tim Ekandjo obviously gets more done than our slumbering Sport Commission; 3. Ekandjo definitely has some leverage (sponsor money?) to get Cricket Namibia to admit to unacceptable practices and publish it!; 4. This same MTC agent should heed advice from sport lovers, who incidentally are MTC customers and subsequently tax payers, as Government is a Shareholder of MTC. His actions are becoming a divisive factor in our communities and between race groups; 5. Several SMSes to local dailies in the past month or so can attest to the above mentioned, so this is not new news!
– Robbie
*CRICKET-quota system. This was long overdue. The statement by Erasmus of Cricket Namibia in The Namibian of Tuesday (page 32, last paragraph) says it all.
– R Williams – Okahandja.
*THE announcement by MTC concerning Cricket Namibia to implement racial quotas is a welcoming gesture, because whether we like to hear it or not, racism still exists in Namibian sport. One should just take a look at tennis whereby an ITF Level 1 tennis coaching clinic was here in Windhoek during the month of August, and surprisingly all black Namibians who took part in that course fail to make the grade. It’s time for the Sport Commission to take such sports code to task.
*WHY are the organisers of Windhoek Jazz Festival not transparent on how the local artist were selected? Just give us the judges scores and the radio votes. Why did people have to pay to see the auditions while it was all sponsored but bands performing did not get a penny form the door takings or anything in return. Just be transparent so artists know where they can improve the next time and also remember jazz is jazz and not something else.
*F1 LOVERS do not need to switch on their TV sets to enjoy the sports! Pack your cooler boxes and dust your camping chairs off and pick a shady tree next to the road between Katutura and Central Hospitals! The speed driven there by drivers is no match for Michael Schumacher’s team! Team GRN is currently leading. On a serious note, drivers using that road should limit their speed! You are endangering the lives of learners and your own!
*MTC Namibia Sport Awards committee, Johanna Benson should be nominated for both Sportwoman of the Year and Disabled Sportwoman of the Year. She has achieved what no woman has achieved in this country. Dont look at her disability but rather concetrate on her achievement as a Namibian woman.
NBC
*I AM sick and tired of reading complaints from ignorant Namibians who complain about paying their TV licence while their TV reception is poor or programmes are not interesting. Namibians, it’s time to get out of your cocoons of ignorance. You need a TV licence for possessing a TV set; not for excellent reception or exciting movies. It is a law.
– Shando.
*WE want NBC Silozi radio here in the coastal towns of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. NBC must do something.
City Fathers
*SHACKS are burned due to the municipality’s failure to supply electricity to a small population in the city. Supply electricity to us then we will stop using candles for light, or do fire brigades fear losing overtime?
*CITY of Windhoek, giving out a tender does not remove your responsibility to deliver good service. Our roads are blind at night. Please give clear instructions to avoid quality compromise. The people who are putting up road signs must use reflective paint, please. We can’t see the lines at night!
Service Please
*MONTE Cristo Service Station, please improve your service. The employees are very rude, always working at their own time, and if you complain you will get it that day. Petrol attendants are just standing around chatting to their friends while cars are standing in queues waiting to be assisted. In the shop you will stand in a line for 30 minutes waiting for the cashier to finish eating before helping you. Please change your attitude.
*CAN Transnamib, improve your train services to and from destinations now that salaries are to be increased, especially with the holidays approaching.
*THE Ministry of Veterans Affairs takes too long to approve projects applications. They never contact the applicants to inform or to ask if the application is not clear. Some are unemployed but we have to pay for day to day needs. We want to work while we are healthy and strong. Please approve or inform an applicant what is what.
*THE UN building between the just built Ministry of Gender Equality and the police station in front of Transnamib is very unhygienic and full of human faeces. Can the UN co-ordinator please do something.
In and From the Regions
*THE Rehoboth council tells poor homeless women and children that there is no land and they have no money, however about a month ago NHE gave a tender to service plots in block G. Where is the money they paid the Rehoboth town council? Again, which land is it that that they got while the poor can’t buy from NHE and are still homeless? We are the voters.
*PLEASE matron of Engela Hospital recruit more nurses, two nurses in casualty is nothing, we patients are suffering in the queue, if you don’t know your work just leave.
*IT’S examination time now for Grade 10 and 12s, why can’t the shebeens in Karasburg be closed for a while because the children still visit the shebeens. I really want my region in the top-five this year. Please do something. We want good results at the end of the year.
– Concerned
Civil Servants
*IS the Permanent Secretary of Environment and Tourism aware that some employees in Keetmanshoop are using government vehicles for private purposes, transporting spouses and children to work, school and doctors?
*OUR kindness is being taken for granted by the GRN and the Inspector General, it’s time to show this government that we can also put down our tools. We the constables and sergeants are suffering a lot. As from October 22, we shouldn’t work, then maybe they will take us seriously. An injury to one is an injury to all.
Youth
*I READ the National Youth Service magazine called Youth Wise that the first NYS graduation ceremony was on September 14 2012 which surprised me! Can the commissioner or head of the centre explain where and who graduated? Because I am a first intake trainee who completed level two and who was told that I didn’t receive a certificate for graduation. Why should they publish things that never happened?
– Concerned former student.
Education
*UNAM officials who are responsible for the exam time table are the reason we are failing. How can one make Masters students write two subjects in one day and to make mattes worse, one subject is at 12h00 and another at 16h00. Unam management please save the MEd students. We paid a lot of money.
Politics
*MATTERS that concern politics. I don’t even find the reason for voting Swapo anymore. We have been voting for Swapo for ages now, but the question is, what will be our reward? There is no change in Mariental. Please Barakias Namwandi do something. Don’t forget that we are the ones who voted for you to be where you are today, but we are also capable of voting you out.
– Acky Gal
Response to Previous SMSes
*I TOTALLY agree with writers of two SMSes about the President’s salary. He doesn’t pay tax, housing or transport, or even electricity or water bills like us ordinary people. What does he need a salary hike for? He’ll even have a state budget after stepping down. There are Namibians who can’t even bury their dead! Really PM, did you even think of them when you tabled that salary hike? Yet you are against giving a N$100 to all needy Namibians!
*THE idea of all vehicles carrying a fire extinguisher is supported. The law that needs to be enacted should include all dwellings, from shacks to hotels.
– Amkoshi.
*RESPONSE to the SMS regarding the operating hours of the student administrative services centre of the Polytechnic of Namibia, The Polytechnic’s Student Administrative Services Centre provides services to students from 07h30 to 20h00 during weekdays. A system of shift work was introduced in January 2012, which means that the services are also provided during normal lunch hour. As far as we know, we are the only tertiary institution who provides such extended service hours.
*I AM very disgusted at how the Shoprite Manager of Walvis Bay handled my complaint. I was charged for an item I did not buy, and Shoprite denied to refund my money even though CCTV proved that I did not buy the item.
– Neru
*ABUSE of public servants: Teachers in Oshikoto Region have to transport National exam materials with their own vehicles, and are not allowed to claim anything from the State, while others drive GRN vehicles to perform their duties. Minister respond please!
*MINISTRY of Education, please do something, it won’t be fair recording marks of a cheated exam paper, let the Grade 12 students re-write that exam paper please.
*HIGH time for investigations to be conducted at the NTA. Please do background checks for qualifications of all managers, including those of training providers. Why should there be an acting general manager at head office for so long? Appoint someone with the relevant qualifications for that post please. Can management at head office who take frequent overseas trips also explain the purpose of these visits since no feedback is given.
*MINISTER of Defence, please send your soldiers out in different regions to assist the police with their duties. The festive season is approaching and botsotsos on a mission to grab handbags, break into houses and steal. The soldiers are just sleeping in the base apparently waiting for war that will never break out. They are wasting our tax money and the GRN is spending money for mahalaby feeding them with tins of food. Enough is enough!
*PRIME Minister, you need to change your attitude, understanding and concept of economics, finance, budgets, inflation, poverty and the costs of living as well as the distribution of the nation’s wealth to all Namibians! We all know the extra costs of the basics such as food, drinks, petrol, diesel, taxi fares and municipal service charges do not affect you, your wealthy ministers and their spouses. While lowly paid workers and pensioners have to have less and die sooner than they should. It’s your responsibility and duty to change, stop and improve the lives of over 1,5 million Namibians surviving in disgraceful and disgusting conditions.
*I FULLY agree with Setho Uwanga about the Presidential debate by the aspiring and nominated candidates. Our country is at an all time low as far as leadership is concerned. We cannot just vote for anybody that will be forced upon us through dubious ways, come the Swapo congress in December. We need a leader that will take this beautiful country to new heights. We can only achieve that by having the presidential debates and making our own choice based on what they can offer our country.
Complaints
*STANDARD Bank Namibia credit card department frustrates the hell out of me, they deduct left right and centre but credits and debits don’t reflect anywhere and yet we are charged unpaid fees! Reversals promised in March are not done yet. Pumzi, get your house in order please!
Standard Bank Response
* “We take cognisance of the clients complaints and acknowledge that we had payment failures. However this problem has been fully resolved. Kindly contact our Call Centre, with your full particulars to enable us to investigate and resolve this issue. Our card call centre number is: 0819286. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
In and From the Regions
*WHAT is going on with MTC’s network in Khorixas? It’s there for one minute and the next it’s gone. It is totally not good that nowadays most of our business is done through it. I had to wait for the availability of the network so that I cold send this SMS. MTC please sort this out asap!
*REHOBOTH Town Council is giving huge water bills. Apparently there were no metre readings for several months. How is this possible? Residents should make payment arrangements due to their negligence. How fair is this?
*KATIMA Mulilo Town Council, can you please register the names of people looking for land. All that you are interested in is selling land to foreigners for cash. What about us permanent residents who don’t have money to buy it cash? There’s a big space in between new NHE and Choto compound. Please, mayor look at us also we are tied of renting now. I have wasted N45 000 for rent. It should have been better if it was my house.
Education
*I OBSERVED that the University of Namibia neglected our African Languages and focused on English Language only. Languages such as Afrikaans, Khoekhoegowab, Oshiwambo, Otjiherero, Rukwangali and Silozi. The reason I am saying this is that African language teachers and students are not allowed by the system to study those languages through distance mode. Where is the problem? I suggest the University Management, the Director of CES and the language department at Unam should come together and make the right decision to change the system as soon as possible before the 2013 academic year, so that language teachers and students can register and study through CES.
*MINISTRY of Education, I am very disappointed to find out that my kid was sleeping on the floor in the hostel for the whole week while her bed was taken for the inspector who came to conduct inspection and he or she was not provided with daily subsistence allowance for this exercise so he or she had to share a bed with my kid which I pay for.
*I WANT to congratulate the principal and teachers of Suiderlig High School for the excellent decision they have made. Let the rest of the Region’s Secondary Schools follow your good example. Let’s bring Karas Education back to first place. We can do it, and dear parents stand behind the teachers. Thank you director for supporting the school’s decision. Viva Suiderlig High School principal and teachers!
Politics
*TWO third majority. A silent killer? We all know what dubious means were used to obtain the so-called two-thirds majority. Firstly, there are the election results still moving between the Supreme Court and the High Court. No respect shown or rather displayed to the Namibian nation, so why should the nation be expected to respect these two organs? To hell with it or serve the nation well! Get up and march. We’ve got nothing to lose but to nip the looming civil anarchy and strife in the bud!
– Revolutionary Propagandist
*NGURARE please behave like an adult and grow up. Things you write on Facebook calling others names shows that you still need to grow. You think when young people support your comments on Facebook you are doing right? Please show some maturity and respect for you to be a good example to us young people, because we look up to you.
Health
*HONOURABLE Minister of Health, until you identify why nurses are leaving the Government health sector is only when you can address this issue. Reshuffling of managers from one hospital to another will not solve anything. The root cause of the problem must be first identified.
*DOCTORS at Central Hospital maternity ward do not respect patients. I went with my daughter, who cannot express herself because she was sick, but the way that doctor chased me out is disrespectful. Oh vakwetu. These young doctors.
