SMSes for Wednesday 28 November 2012

SMS Of The Day *TEACHERS are to have N$750 deducted per day. How much for Parliamentarians not reaching a quorum?

Food for Thought
*MY former principal demonstrated at the arrival of Dr Kurt Waldheim in Tsumeb back in the 1970s and because of that his salary, which was R45, was deducted by the colonial regime. For six months he was only paid R15. Is our own government taking us back to that time?

*ELIJAH Ngurare, we cannot send our kids for sex to school. Talk about progressive issues like land that we need and economic projects for the youth and the way forward for the youth to achieve economic emancipation.

*MY prayer and hope for the next President is to recognise all Namibia’s traditional leaders, unions and churches as well please.

*WHAT an eye opener! Travelling from Windhoek to Grootfontein on Sunday, 50 percent of approaching cars were GRN and from there to Nkurenkuru 80 percent. And there were many cars! You cannot tell me they were all on official business.

*I am sick and tired of people complaining and striking everyday because they don’t like the way the country and its resources are managed. It is comparable to women who are abused who report the perpetrators and withdraw the case later. Don’t blame anybody. Stop striking, hang on until 2014 and quietly vote Swapo out.

Bouquets and Brickbats
*NAMPOWER, what is that bad smelling pollutant that Van Eck power station has been filling the air with from morning to evening? Get with the programme and go solar please.

*NAMIBIAN please, I don’t want to see these Swapo photos in every newspaper. Stop it please.

*TO all the kind patient and understanding drivers who know why learners put a big ‘L’ on their rear windows, many thanks. For those drivers who obviously don’t know or don’t care, can I just say that hooting and insulting loudly is more a reflection of who you are than a reflection of whether the learner (emphasis on learner) can drive or not!

*THEATRE Awards: I unfortunately cannot speak to you all personally but thank you so much for the congratulations and good wishes. I love you all.
– Laurinda

*THANK you to our men and women from the military who helped clean up the town of Karibib. We truly appreciate this.

*Tate Abisai Sheyavali, may the Almighty God bless you and increase your wisdom and knowledge. You have told us the truth and the truth will set Namibia free. Idols worship provoked God’s anger but God promised to heal our land if we return from our sins and wicked ways. We cannot serve God, the devil and idols. Namibia wake up and let us be a true Christian nation. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom.

*AFTER having worked for 16 years as a humble teacher GIPF says my pension status stands at N$200 000 some odds. Worse than my HIV status!

*CAN somebody please tell me why wrestling should be switched off on NBC? Don’t they warn kids not to try it at home, school or anywhere? Please parents look after your kids and stop blaming wrestling please!

*CHURCH elders in Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia Ephesians Congregration in Katutura, why must married couples attend classes if they want to baptise a child? The church elders must do the things the right way please.

Service Please
*NAMPOL Keetmanshoop, thanks for your good service, never mind the detainees’ disgusting meals and unhygienic living cells. What happened to their constitutional rights?

*A KENYAN doctor is doing locums in the northern regions but did not pass his entry exam. How is it possible for him to work in private practice?

*IF one would like to become a foster parent whom does one approach?

*STANDARD Bank must stop using the ‘Moving Forward’ slogan and rather use ‘Moving Backward’. How on earth can they not process salaries of people until November 26 while it was submitted on November 20? And to add insult to injury the consultant at corporate banking is so rude. Please send your staff to customer care training.

*NEDBANK Maerua, why is your system down for the past two weeks? Since you advertised the new debit card I applied immediately but was told the system is down four times. You are not serious with customer service. How can the system be down for two weeks? Why is there no urgency to resolve the problem? This is really disappointing.

*I WONDER if the Minster of Education and his Deputy know that most of the students’ loans are not yet paid. They must remember that the money has a lot to do with the survival of most students. Some of them are still in Windhoek with no transport money to go home. Their accommodation is not paid the whole year. Please Minister, act now. The officers are sleeping.

*CAN the Ministry of Finance explain why bonuses and pensions are taxed?

*OPUWO FNB needs more cashiers and counters as well as a counter for our pensioners. How can one stand for two hours in the bank? The banks in Opuwo are even closing during lunch while many people could have done their banking during that time.

*PLEASE send someone to Karibib police station. We urgently need help because here the officers are very rude towards members of the public?

*INSPECTOR General of the Namibian Police Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga, what happened to the government’s money? Police officers in the Karas Region are working with official caps without badges on them. Why is corruption worse with those who are supposed to stop it?

*ABRAHAM Iyambo, at Rundu VTC we are writing exams without any timetable. Even primary schools are provided with timetables but level one plumbers are just in the air. We also have rights. We are just told ‘you’ll write numeracy tomorrow without any timetable. What’s the work of the head of training really? We are not slaves at all. NTA why is it like this?

*NAMIBIA Students Financial Assistance Fund, when are you going to release the names of people who were chosen for the bursaries of Russia and China? We want transparency.

*NAMCOL learners want the Minister of Education to investigate if those teachers really mark our papers or are they just giving us the previous symbols? We are paying a lot of money and we are studying so hard to pass but when the results come, it’s just the same symbols every year. Are those people taking us seriously? We can’t keep on disappointing our parents like this and we are tired of those Fs.

*A FRIENDLY request to Minister of Finance and the Prime Minister; I’m requesting financial reports from all the ministries as well as parastatals to see how much they  spent within the specific financial year and how much is left over in the coffers before pumping in millions of our hard-earned cash. Let’s have transparency before next year’s budget is tabled in Parliament please.

Suggestion Box
*I WANT the ACC to be dissolved because they have failed the country and only investigate and arrest people driving GRN cars without trip authority etc. Our country is full of corruption at all levels and this is killing our society and I don’t see the role of ACC.

*I WOULD like to urge all Namibians to go and read the Patients Charter to find out what are their rights and responsibilities as patients and stop blaming doctors for service. Blame your government for not employing more doctors.

Teachers
*WHILE the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education is working out the mechanism to deal with teachers who were on strike, in the Onamutayi Circuit principals have already started to issue unpaid leave to the teachers concerned? They must be doing it for the opposition parties. They want teachers to hate Swapo and GRN more. Minister Abraham Iyambo, take the inspector and principals in this circuit to task.

*GRN and the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Education are clearly showing utter disregard to teachers by not paying them the signed increase in November. Instead they are threatening to subtract money for the days they were on strike. The Swapo government should investigate if this behaviour is not a threat for their success in future elections by keeping government workers disgruntled. Next year the strike will be for real and legitimate even with these colonial tactics by the PS.

Labour
*NAMIBIANS, is it true that MPs will get a salary increment of 36 percent? I think enough is enough. All public servants join the teachers across the country. My proposal is 36 percent for public servants and eight percent for MPs.

*NANGOLO Mbumba, members of the Namibian Police were informed that the probation period is 12 months. Officers who were trained as from September 1 2011, as indicated in their appointment certificates are still waiting for their little salaries to be adjusted from cadet constable to a full constable, plus their back pay. What are you doing with officers’ money while they are suffering? Learn how to do things on time and honestly.
n PAN China Construction Group, please increase the salaries of the workers in Rietfontein. The company is even violating labour laws.

Politics
*ARE the campaigns of Jerry Ekandjo and Utoni Nujoma two sides of the same coin (or being run from the same quarters)? How else do we explain the similarity (double page adverts), presence of the latter at the former’s campaign rallies and dancing like an overjoyed youth? Does this then give credence to the notion of Ekandjo being a mere gatekeeper for the anointed heir apparent of the Nujoma dynasty?

*JERRY Ekandjo’s campaign says he is for unity! That’s a joke! Is he not the same Minister who was alleged not to want to send a Kwanyama for studies, calling people cockroaches and bashing gays? What unity is he talking about?

*NAMIBIANS are still without affordable land and housing. Tell me if one didn’t fix this situation as a mere minister, will it be different as president?

*YOU preach about things you would change when President. Pendukeni Iivula Ithana, as Secretary General what stopped you pushing through those ideas? Were you sitting on them to use them for your campaign only to push them aside and make them white elephants after you take office? Let’s stop fooling each other.

*SWAPO’S Presidential candidates’ words are exactly the same as the opposition parties. This is the time for the truth, to talk about the lack of progress and resource sharing and bread and butter issues. The same issues that opposition parties have been singing and are still singing that Swapo has been denying. Now they are using opposition issues as a weapon to campaign. So Swapo should admit that the opposition are right and that Namibia is truly in a mess. Viva opposition!

*JERRY Ekandjo, telling your prospective supporters that you will downgrade their town, what picture does that portray of you leadership? Is it desperation or what? You have to go hand over houses that do not have the basic needs; water and electricity. How desperate are you?

*IF you nominate someone you have to see that candidate through to the end. Why did Utoni Nujoma turn to Jerry Ekandjo? Why not campaign for his nominee?

Response to Previous SMSes
*I LOVED the powerful letter referring to the lift accident. It is an absolute shame the way the waitress was treated.

*YOU should not blame the media for the high rate of passion killings. It is a crime like the others and the media should report on all crimes. Grow up!

*I AM really supporting the SMS in The Namibian of November 26 about the woman who had an accident in the lift. Is this what we call fear of a citizen? Worse of all, it happened at Parliament but all the MPs can think of is who will take the presidency. Shame on you.

*I TOTALLY agree with the mother who complained about G-strings at the public pool. It is after all a public pool. This means that people have to take other people’s feelings and rights into consideration. If one wants to expose themselves unnecessarily then they should do so in the privacy of their private pools. It is hoped that the pool management will take appropriate and timely action.

In and From the Region

*COUNCILLOR of Omulonga constituency, we need to eat the fruits of this country. Since we got freedom we are just drinking water from the wells and the wells are very far. We used to travel eight to 10km, villages Engela A, Engela B, Onawa, Okatha and Ondeikela, please we need clean water too.

*MINISTRY of Health, recruit more nurses. Engela is suffering, especially in the maternity ward. I went there to give birth but it takes time to be helped but the nurses are all busy. Only four nurses are covering maternity. Do something!

*OUTAPI water supplier, we Iikokola-Omalago residents are suffering because of the main water pipe that cannot provide water to all people with a private tap in their respectively houses since September! We are dying of thirst. Do something about our water pipe!

*IT really breaks my heart to see how the GRN doesn’t look at the needs of poor people and communal farmers in Otjimbingue area. No clean drinking water in the surrounding areas. In fact, no water at all. We were better off during Apartheid. Access to clean water is a human right. We need a fair distribution of resources. Otjimbingue is a historical town and its people fought for independence of this country as well. All we are asking for is drinking water? NamWater failed us for the last 22 years! The Minister of Agriculture doesn’t care about us since we are not from the north. Shame on you GRN.

*LTC, the Luderitz community really appreciate the Aeroplane Bay beach project. The only concern we have is privacy. The braai spots are just too close. A few changes will make a big difference.

*WHEN is NamWater reopening the water they closed last year at Tsintsabis? People survive on salty water from the boreholes. We are also humans.

*THIS is really becoming a serious safety concern for me and I need an urgent response on the following request: We really want speed bump to be built on the road passing through WK Rover Community Hall leading to La Tropicana in the Tseiblaagte residential area in Keetmanshoop. This road has became a race track and as a resident living there I’ve witnessed a number of accidents where people were hit and cars bumping each other. Based on the number of accidents I think we are heading for a fatality and then maybe only will the relevant authorities intervene. It will be too late. To the political office bearers, as far as I’m concerned we voted for you to look after our health and safety and we expect that safety takes precedence over anything else.
