Food for Thought
*ERKKI Nghimtina, rather expand the main roads with double lanes with the competition money that you want to waste. The problem is not the drivers but the narrow roads everywhere. Stop the competition immediately and rather use the money wisely. Just think of what happened to N$50 000 that was dished out recently. Did it solve the war vets’ problems? Think twice.
*MINISTER of Finance, we give you two days to pronounce yourself on our eight percent back pay before we start with a fresh countrywide strike. You ought to be serious with this issue as a matter of urgency.
*I STUDY in India and returned for the holiday on Monday. I’m very disturbed by what I see all around me. The tribal segregation is way out of hand. There is a big imbalance in power among Namibians. I’m thinking twice about returning home to seek employment. Who are we cheating?
*I HAVE some advice for power hungry people. Do not trample on other people’s heads as you go up, because you will need them when you come down.
*MINISTER of Finance, we live in difficult financial times, worldwide. Why borrow huge sums of money to spend? Is it not possible to make savings and cuts and compromises? That’s what our senior citizens have to do, and most of Europe (especially Greece). Suggestion: Cut back the huge salaries of ministers and other highly paid GRN staff; control/restrict the abuse of all state resources especially vehicles; control the timekeeping of all GRN staff and penalise offenders, including MPs who are too lazy to attend Parliamentary sessions! It’s a shame and a disgrace. Someone must lead the way. Take control and make our country and its people better for it.
*PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba, when are we going to eat the fish and chicken of Namibia? We can’t afford our own products. Make a turn in the shops and see how your people are suffering. It is unbelievable. Do something for your people. A braai pack costs N$57. Vakwetu!
*PRESIDENT, Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and the government of Namibia, a fair question; when do you intend to really work hard 24/7 to seriously address the disgraceful plight of the majority of people who voted for you on the basis that you would improve their lives! Sort out crime, poverty, unemployment, shelter, toilets, water, electricity, sewers, land, schools and clinics, the youth/school leavers and all senior citizens?
*IT’S Christmas time again. Everybody is cheerful, looking forward to the holidays. Dogs and other wild animals get donations, what about children with disabilities? Orphans and vulnerable children are taken care of and you can see the pictures in newspapers. Who will be the good Samaritan to make a Christmas party for children with disabilities in 2012?
*ESTATE Agents Board is said to hold a disciplinary hearing against estate agents on November 26. However, the board is not constituted in terms of the act. How did some of them get the fidelity certificate? Some of them have no trust account since the bank closed them.
*WHY are Ministries renting places in towns like Outjo, Otavi and Tsumeb while there are many government houses in those towns that can accommodate such ministries? Employment can be created by having enough space but not to rent one office for one official. Ministry of Works, please give the house to the ministries to serve the community.
*I DON’T understand. We are still working for lousy salaries. Prices of everything around us are going up except our salaries. How can we cope?
Suggestion Box
*WE want the next president of this country to appoint Major General Martin Shali to become the Inspector General of the Namibia Police because we are sick and tired of poor management in the force. People are buying helicopters while officers are starving and have no accommodation.
Teachers
*HOW could Abraham Iyambo’s heart be closely linked to teachers’ well-being when teachers live and work in harsh conditions but he has done little or nothing to improve their plight? Hypocrisy of highest order!
*NAMIBIA is talking about Vision 2030 but teachers are not working. Who will educate the nation to reach the vision?
*ABRAHAM Iyambo, go on with your plans to deduct N$750 from our salaries but if you do you’ll force us not to teach one new lesson in January 2013.
*MINISTER of Education, you are welcoming back teachers for what? Take note the peaceful demonstration is not over. Prepare for the worse! Teachers have the right to strike.
*SHAME on our Namibian leaders. How can you respond to the teachers with letters if you refused to receive their petition.
Bouquets and Brickbats
*DEVELOPMENT Bank of Namibia is a big disaster. Really fellow Namibians, that’s not the right way to treat people who are in need of your help. How can you take months before you give an answer to someone? Please change your way of handling applications!
*THE decision to block the internet at Customs and Excise at Hosea Kutako International Airport by the IT Department in the Ministry of Finance was ill-advised. How are we supposed to conduct our daily operations without internet on site? The internet was helpful when it comes to do some research and profiling. I do not know if this action affects only Hosea Kutako or the whole directorate or Ministry. I think what they could have done is to sieve out the unwanted items instead of just blocking everything. Please rescind the decision.
*NBC National Radio, I used to like your live reporting of local football last season. What happened to it? Please one game per week is not too much to ask since there is nothing on live TV.
*NBC Oshiwambo, please find a DJ who can entertain us! It’s now really boring and you are losing listeners!
*I RESPECT Adam Hartman’s view on the issue concerning the next president of Namibia. Any president who fears God (of the Bible) and respects His Word.
*GOSH, the apparent Namibian Fashion Show that took place this Saturday, disappointed. The show started two hours late; models were tripping on stage. Did they not rehearse before the show? There were two breaks during the show. Why if the show started late already? There was dinner being served for the VIPs, dinner? Since when do we serve dinner at fashion shows? Has that ever happened in Milan? To make it worse every time the VIP was being served a meal, the rest of the crowd had to sit in silence with no entertainment what so ever despite them paying N$200 a head. The icing on the cake was the model chewing gum on stage, that’s when I decided to leave. It’s a good thing I didn’t pay a single cent for that show.
*THANK you Christof Maletsky for your article Back 2 Basics of Friday November 16. I was president of TUN for over 16 years and have preached the same story but some of our professionals in Namibia have blind loyalty to their party and do not listen to these facts. They vote these union opportunists into power to get seats in Parliament.
– GJ Jansen
Politics
*Swapo leaders should learn from the Prime Minister’s comment, “my vote is secret”. I am a delegate to congress but you cannot tell me to vote for one candidate because of a phone call from a president. We did not put you there to be manipulative. All candidates are tested cadres.
Labour
*SHILIMELA Security, please make a difference between unmarried and married people’s salaries! And tell us when will you increase our salaries?
*PERMANENT Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, you stop cleaners from working overtime due to insufficient funds. But the ministry has money to pay for S&T for officers to travel from January to December. What a shame.
*CAN the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Defence and Security do something to advise the Ministry of Defence to allow all NDF members who don’t own houses to benefit from housing allowances as they cannot afford to buy houses and they are not using their housing subsidies. Seventy percent of soldiers must sleep in military bases for national standby for any threat or emergency that might occur at any time. Also, soldiers are deployed away from their hometowns where some have ervens and they are responsible for monthly water and electricity bills which are on their names. Come on leaders, treat the military different from civil ministries as you know soldiers don’t work on their own will but by orders. Please, who can help as soldiers don’t have a union representative.
*SAARA Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, when are we getting our payback?
– Very frustrated civil servant.
Service please
*DAVID Namwandi, can you please come talk to us students at IUM Ongwediva campus? We need to share our ideas with you. Is it possible for us students to write a subject that we were never taught? When we call a lecturer he only lies and says he did his part. Is that how it’s supposed to be?
*VETERAN’S Ministry, when are your board members going to meet and decide on the approvals of the projects? I’m tired of being told that you hold my future. Do your job! Empty promises don’t work.
*WE are sick and tired of waiting for our refunds. It’s been now almost a month since we applied for refunds yet we didn’t get them. Some of us depend on the refund for various things. Please Unam main campus, hear our cry.
