SMSes for Tuesday 13 November 2012

SMS Of The Day *N$100 000 to have dinner with the President! Surely there must be some benefit for these attendees other than a dinner. Is this not corruption at the highest level?

Food for Thought
*ASSIST people to survive, not to grow because if they grow they will challenge you! Is this the Swapo-led government’s policy!

*FOR us to reach Vision 2030 and to develop economically in our country and to stop illegal strikes, we must create factories within the country. We must stop or reduce imports and avoid other countries to profit from our rich motherland.

*BOTH the Minister of Home Affairs and her advisor should do the honourable thing and resign. I was very ashamed to watch and listen to her on national television making an announcement that her ministry ran out of passports.

Suggestion Box
*MINISTER of Finance, Government is spending more than 50 percent of its total revenue this year on 100 000 civil servants salaries due to higher housing and vehicle allowances of deputy directors, directors, permanent secretaries and other high ranking government officials. Freeze their benefits for the next five years. If you really want to reduce government spending on civil servants’ salaries. It will also help to minimise the gap between the higher and lower paid.

*IN Friday’s newspaper on page 25 there’s a picture of President Pohamba talking to the EU Foreign and Trade Ministers at State House. One can clearly see the Bonaqua water bottles from RSA in the background. Why don’t the State House officials rather serve Namibian bottled water and promote ‘Made in Namibia’ products? What does Team Namibia have to say about this?

Bouquets and Brickbats
*NAMPOWER is the most dynamic corporation in Namibia. If our power is out in the rural areas it is connected again within two hours. Bravo for excellent service.

*OLD Mutual, your clock in Mutual Platz Clock Tower is dead. Ohltaver and List, your clock in the Post Street Mall Clock Tower is also dead.

*I’M sick and tired of NBC on Sunday mornings. Don’t we have gospel choirs in Namibia? All they play is South African music and on top of that it’s the same things all over again.

*I CONGRATULATE Ben Biwa on his suspension. Few weeks after joining the company he fired two people, suspended one and retrenched the rest. From outside I saw it as the beginning of the end of his career.

*NBC, take your Swapo signal from my TV. I am sick and tired of the Swapo news you are showing me. I don’t pay my TV license for Swapo but for national educational and informative news, sport and entertainment. Change your name to Swapo Broadcasting Corporation (SBC). Shame on you, Swapo driven NBC.

*WHY is it that Namibian companies or organisations, apart from the Ministry of Education never provide bursaries for students wanting to pursue a career in media studies? Is it not as important as all other careers in our country?

*KHOMAS Regional Education Director Thea Seefeldt, stop threatening your teachers. Under your leadership Khomas’ results dropped severely.

*HOW much longer will the Prime Minister and his deputy sit back and watch poor Namibian people scavenging for rotten food from the Kupferberg dump site? It is now more than a year since they made their usual empty promises. Very embarrassing.

Service Please
*IUM Ongwediva campus, we are tired of waiting for our loan refunds. We have to pay for our rent and taxi fares. Please give us our money! We are done with the exam!

*I CRIED like a baby like I have never cried before in the examination room. Why should we have to be forced to write a subject we were never taught? I am feeling pity for myself and my fellow students.
– IUM Ongwediva student.

*HOCHLAND PARK is very noisy. Quad bikes until late at night and loud music from a certain bar until early in the morning! This is unacceptable. City Police, please help!

Teachers
*THE strike is a good lesson for principals to respect teaches. Now schools cannot function without teachers.

*THIS GRN is showing dictatorial tendencies. They have now instructed directors to instruct principals to write the names of teachers who take part in the strike. It is happening here in Omusati Region.

*IF money talks that much to the extent where the GRN does not want to give money to the teachers, then money is really powerful and evil. Teachers never asked for much but what they are asking now you don’t want to give. But when anyone from a high position asks for salary increments, you give.

*I AM appealing to the Namibian government to stop abusing workers. When teachers go to mark they work for more than eight hours but they are not paid overtime. The money which is paid for the scripts they mark is also taxed. Shame on our government!

*I CAN’T understand the fact that teachers are demanding 40 percent increase. Where will all that money come from? And what about the police and nurses? Teachers, you are really greedy and selfish. Will the 40 percent increase change your competence? I want to see my kid pass with flying colours. If you really get an increase of more than eight percent.

*SINCE GRN is saying there is no money to meet the teachers’ demands, can the two parties concentrate on the tax free 13th cheque and then also reduce the income tax from what it is to at least 20 percent for the entire public service as a compromise?

*WHY did teachers strike at the end of the year? Do they want learners to fail?

*CAN economists put the eight percent salary increase in perspective? The Deputy Finance Minister seems to suggest that the increase for civil servants salary is not a solution but a problem for GRN debt. What is the Deputy Minister’s suggestion then? Leave the situations as is or what?

Unions
*NANU members who pay fees monthly, the union leadership is unknown to us. Abner Shopati and his team have failed to serve their members. This union is as good as dead!

*NURSES are very disappointed in Nanu SG. Abner Shopati has let us down. We are demanding an urgent meeting for all members of Nanu. We need answers. In fact, he must step down with immediate effect.

*GOVERNMENT, the best you can do is to engage the teachers through their interim committee. Basilius Haingura is rejected by the teachers, just like Petrus Nevonga is rejected by the public workers. They do not have the interests of the workers at heart. They are serving Swapo.

*THE best way the teachers can tackle Nantu is to stop their memberships as soon as possible.

*NANTU, who gave you the right to sign the agreement before you discussed it with us? Does Basilius Haingura actually know the procedures? Let’s get rid of political corruption through strikes.

*I AM, or let me say I was, a loyal member of Nantu but I have realised that it failed to side with us teachers. I will join TUN for being understanding and siding with us. By the way, I also wonder what empty promises the ruling party will tell us before the next election.

In and from the Regions
*SOME people are eating the fruits of Independence while others do not even know the taste of it. Villages like Engela A, Engela B, Onawa, Okatha, Ondeikela etc, are still drinking water from a well (eendungu), situated seven kilometres away. Councilor of Omulonga, do something.

*FOR almost three weeks there’s no public toilets available at Ariamsvlei border post. Officer in charge, what happened?

*MINISTER of Health, are you seriously allowing cleaners to be off on Sundays and public holidays in Ohangwena? It’s shameful because no service is rendered at all. Cooks, cashiers and porters are all on duty. You can imagine the blood spillages, worms, faecal odour in these hospitals just because of poor benefits.
