SMSes for Thursday 29 November 2012

SMS Of The Day *MY vote goes to the leader who can make a difference in people’s lives. The leader who dedicates himself to alleviating poverty, fighting high unemployment, crime and to making Namibia a safe place for all.

Food for Thought
*WHAT kind of a nation will we be if Hage Geingob wins the vice-presidency? A man that refuses to talk to the nation, via The Namibian, the only independent newspaper in the land?

*PEACE and unity, the theme by candidates vying for Swapo vice presidency. My question is what peace and unity is meant here? Is it peace and unity for the country or for Swapo? The theme is confusing and frightening.

*I THINK it’s a good point that the Governor of Ohangwena made. To prevent baby dumping, all the females who are pregnant must register with their headman.

*GIPF pensioners also want a 36 percent increase in their monthly pensions. Their yearly increase is persistently lower than inflation. Inflation ate into their pensions so that those who retired a few years ago, can now barely make ends meet. MPs also used to belong to GIPF. Shortly after Independence the MPs took one look at the benefits offered by GIPF, withdrew their money and set up their own pension fund. The benefits that this fund offer MPs are to this day kept secret. So I demand a 36 percent increase for GIPF pensioners.

*IN medieval Europe, theft used to be punished by chopping the hand off. How many one-handed Namibians would be walking the face of the earth if this law was applied here today?

Bouquets and Brickbats
*PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba, until when will you be quiet while civil servants are financially abused by your ministers? Namibian civil servants are sick and tired of being regarded as fourth class citizens. The eight percent increment by Frans Kapofi, Petrus Nevonga and Basilius Haingura is ridiculous. The labour unions are abusing the members by negotiating in bad faith. Are they seeking favours at the members expense?

*OKAHANDJA people, wake up! How can the CEO not know what’s been happening in his office? It only shows that he’s not doing his job.

*HOME Affairs Minister, if a person fails to deliver as a driver, can that person head a directory, or ministry? Call a spade a spade. Bring back the man who had vision.

*NO... no... no! Service at the mortuary is horrific. Even if the person is deceased it does not mean that they have no dignity. Deceased men and women are left naked on a postmortem bed for their relatives to collect. Where are the morals and values? Imagine an old person. I was terrified. No!

*MINISTER of Health do something about the Cuban doctors in Windhoek. How could you allow them to work in Namibia while they don’t understand English? How will we communicate with them?

*NDF top leaders, remember that this country does not belong to you alone. Everyone wants to enjoy S&T. You don’t think about people with lower ranks. Sharpen your mind and plan like human beings!
– From a concerned animal!

Service Please
*FNB Wernhil Park, your service is pathetic. Two weeks ago you were offline and again on November 27 you were offline. Why can’t you do manual deposits? Please improve!

*TUWILIKA Training Institute under Namibia Training Authority, north campus. When are you going to return our money? We want to register at other institutions. You wasted our time.

*BANK Windhoek Ondangwa branch’s service is pathetic, especially the ATM section. There are only two ATMs in town and most of the time only one works or both are out of order.

Suggestion Box

*WE encourage markers who are marking Grade 10 and 12 to mark responsibly, with enough time and not hurry because of money, especially after lunch.

*CAN we please be led by a younger president than the likes of the candidates who are running for Swapo’s vice presidency?

*CAN Anti-Corruption Commission investigate what’s going on with our loans at the Polytechnic of Namibia please? There is something fishy going on. These people seem as if they eat our money because they are only giving us a limited amount of our money, as if they forget that we are going to pay it back on our own. They are taking their time and the school is about to close. They are making a list for people whose loans were paid around June, as if those whose loans were paid in October are not in their account. What matters is that the loans are paid and we should all claim.

Labour
*BASILIUS Haingura, we noticed yesterday that you represent GRN. Please inform them that not you or they will convince us not to strike in January. We want a proper increase like Abraham Iyambo. If the strike was illegal then Nantu signing for eight percent was also because you did not consult with us before signing. Please learn the procedures.

*REGARDING the article ‘NUNW suspends Nafinu’, I’m so sorry my dear! That’s what you get when you align a trade union to a political party (which then becomes your boss) instead of aligning with the workers (who should be your bosses)!

*MINISTRY of Home Affairs failed with the passport issue. Now they are transferring officers without their consent. Please human rights organisations, intervene now.

*COCA Cola, why are your increases very low? Only N$250 next year February. The people need N$750 increments for every salary.

*I AM concerned about the money the civil servants pay to GIPF. The amount per month is too much. Honestly, only a few people reach the age of 60 nowadays. So we have no benefits from such money. My suggestion is the GRN must re-look at the percentage deducted or let us withdraw even 10 percent after 10 years. Otherwise I don’t see its use.

*WHY does government only use people who have qualifications and many years experience? But what about us? We are not getting jobs but we have experience even if we don’t have qualifications.

Politics
*AFTER Hage Geingob, we want a white president.

*UTONI Nujoma nominates Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana for vice-president. Jerry Ekandjo nominates Nujoma for secretary general and Nujoma supports Ekandjo to contest against his nominee... There is something fishy going on here.

*PEOPLE wake up! If you are not happy with how things are run in the country, divert your votes. It helps to keep whoever is in power on their toes not to be relaxed but to try and serve the people to retain power. Not voting is not a solution because opposition remains weak and the government of the day relaxes and sleeps. The current government is even snoring now!

*SWAPO is guilty of contributory negligence. If Hage Geingob failed to keep up with the payment of his membership card why was he not reminded of this? And why make a fuss now after more than 18 years?

*TODAY the SPYL are calling for condoms in schools, tomorrow they will call for the reintroduction of religious studies. They also want the youth recalled by the President and nominate retired army generals for Swapo’s congress. Surely Swapo has no future!

*I FAIL to understand why the candidates for Swapo’s vice president come and campaign with us who are not going to vote at the congress. They waste money for transport and logistics for their campaigns. The SPYL use the SPYL resources and energy but some of us SPYL members are not supporting their candidate. Please stop saying SPYL, say individuals. Do like the others who went as individuals.

*SWAPO is anything but united. It’s such a pity and a real embarrassment to note how divided the party has become. Now we actually have three sub-parties within Swapo!

Response to Previous SMSes
*I WISH to add to what a reader said on how he was mistreated at a police station when he went to report a crime. But he would have been shocked even more and  treated worse than a criminal if he appeared at the register’s offices and before judges.

*WOMEN don’t demand four or six months for themselves or because they are lazy, but it is in the best interest of the baby. At least when one goes back to work the baby is grown up a bit and able to be left with someone. Remember, the baby friendly corners at places of work suggested by Ministry of Health has died a natural death. We should look at things from different angles.

*TO the person who wrote that the government must get credit for paying teachers when they are on holiday and for working fewer hours; my friend, you must understand that is part of the condition of employment if you understand labour related issues. You will get people who work at mines for one week and the next week they are off. Now you tell me who pays for the week off.

*YOU fool, who don’t want maternity leave to be extended? Are you seriously happy to leave your two month old baby home? In other countries, mothers return to work when their babies are four or six months old.

In and From the Region
*ONDANGWA Town Council how can you develop a luxury suburb and leave the people that have been electing you to power behind in the dark and the flood? Improve Oluno first. It’s the first location.

*OHANGWENA Council, we need a tarred road from Oshigambo to Ondobe.

*A FORMER Finance Manager has advised the Gobabis Town Council not to employ 50 casuals on a permanent basis because of the financial status the council was in. Why don’t we get him live on ‘1On1’ on NBC to tell it like it is? Let the truth come out and let’s even visit the minutes of council meetings.

*I AM a concerned resident of Kombat. I want to know the future plans for us. Why can our constituency counsellor not pay us a visit and then address the people’s problems? We voted for her but it seems she doesn’t care about us. Please governor, do something. We are also Namibians.
