SMSes for Thursday 08 November 2012

SMS Of The Day *WELL done Barack Obama! Now you can focus on Africa. Electoral Commission of Namibia, learn from this! It’s the 21st century. Voting in one day and the results are out the next day before your next cup of tea! The USA has a population of over 200 million and a landscape bigger than Namibia!

Food for Thought
*HOW well are Namibian journalists qualified in general? I mean, my daughter who is seven years old knows the difference between Goroh and Gola, even the pronunciation sounds different. Then again: there is no Francisco in Nigeria only in Angola, or does the name come close to Haruna? Are we really journalists or just a bunch of chance takers.

*A COLLEAGUE of mine lost his job last week because he was late for work everyday. His excuse was taxis in Katutura refuse to come to town in the morning no matter how early you wake up. Nobody believed him, including me. Now I am renting in Okuryangava. Believe me there are no taxis especially at Ombili, Freedom Land, Hakahana and Wanaheda. I am afraid I am next in line to be fired. I am working at Maerua Mall.

*COULD we please address our ministers with respect instead of calling them names as if they are rubbish? Where are our manners?

*PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba and your cabinet, Namibia is about to lose its status as Land of the Brave and become land of labour unrest. It is time to identify an independent researcher to research what is contributing to labour unrest in Namibia rather than telling unhappy employees to leave specific ministries.

Politics
*For SPYL’s Job Amupanda to label the three generals, who they nominated as candidates to the upcoming Swapo congress, on NBC’s ‘1On1’ programme as ‘socialists’ is the biggest joke of 2012. They have hardly read the preface to ‘The Communist Manifesto’ or the first edition of ‘Das Capital’. So jokes aside, Job.

*FOR a young person Job Amupanda appears bitter and caught up in the past. It’s so sad! This young person is so misled and he really thinks he knows. Young people let’s embrace each other and move on for the betterment of our country.

*I WILL nominate Job Amupanda for President of Namibia. He is a true leader and he knows what the Namibian youth want. Viva Amupanda viva! I salute you comrade!

*JOB Amupanda was once a political analyst but all of a sudden he is SPYL Secretary for Information. Was he all the time hiding as a Swapo mouthpiece? A political analyst is a neutral person who must give his independent views on politics in a country, like Joseph Diescho, not holding any party position. I think the young man is losing himself.

* JOB Amupanda of SPYL is a political stooge. Why did you nominate generals (veterans) instead of youth? You have no direction.

*PARLIAMENT passes unconstitutional laws more and more. Is this deliberate or do you just don’t care about doing your jobs properly? The lack of a quorum all the time indicates that there is just no will to do your jobs. People please get this message to the north. It is our children’s’ futures being destroyed.

*LAST week NBC radio reported that the members of Parliament did not meet for three consecutive days. Are they going to be paid? If yes, why?

*WHO is ruling Libya now? I have seen no sign of authority, since the end of the slain ruler, except from the militia. Is this the democracy or freedom that Libyans were fighting for?

Suggestion Box
*MY honest suggestion for the year-end examinations: Promote all Grades 1 to 7, 8, 9 and 11 learners to be fair on them.

*CITY of Windhoek, please provide 7de and 8ste Laan with taxi ranks. Taxis are killing us with N$18 rates to those areas.

*WE need speed bumps in Nasarener Street toward Moses van der Byl school.

*I SUGGEST an exemption of property tax for one dwelling in order to ensure decent living for our senior citizens. Shelter is a basic need.

*PEOPLE from Brakwater, stop asking police officers to come open cases at your houses. Go and open your cases at police stations just like other residents please.

*IF one comes to the court it doesn’t mean you are a criminal. Maybe you came to pay your N$1 000 ticket for a fine for not wearing a seatbelt. But the way the officials at the court behave, from the magistrate to City Police and the clerks. They make you feel you are a criminal. They don’t greet you. They pass by you just looking at you. Please officers, change your attitude.

*MINISTRY of Defence, we are the engineer regiment base. Imagine you wake up early for physical training in the darkness around 16h00. We are walking to the base. Also, from PT you have to go to the field from 07h00 to 16h00. Some of us are old and sick and we have no time to take our pills. We can’t drink pills and stay in the sun for the whole day. We are requesting afternoon PT because of the problem we are facing. We are the ones who fought for this country to get freedom but still there’s no freedom in this unit. You reach the age of 50 but you are still a corporal and you get no respect from the youngsters.
– From Otavi veterans

*PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba, we are old war veterans in need of N$200 000 cash not projects. Please give this money to us. We are old and cannot run the projects.

Bouquets and Brickbats

*POLITICIANS, you are becoming richer and richer but where did you get money? Civil servants are getting poorer and poorer.

*PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba decided not to solve the problem of the civil servants’ salary increments and went on a huge spending spree with a half of his cabinet to South Africa after his salary hike.

*NAMIB Poultry Industries is a great company and if people don’t want to work there they should find other work! I enjoy working there and they treat us very well!

*THE organisers of the Windhoek Jazz Festival are mistreating local jazz artists. I have nothing against Shishani but she is surely not a jazz artist but an indie pop artist, so are a few more of those local artists selected to perform. It’s just unfair towards local artists with real jazz talent who wasted their time at auditions. On what criteria was Shishani chosen with no audition? Not a jazz artist, not being auditioned and paid almost double what other local artists were paid. It is so unfair. This is why Erna Chimu, Sharon van Rooi and some other jazz artists are also criticising the organisers of the event.

*POOR leadership from President Pohamba. How could he go to South Africa with Abraham Iyambo while teachers are on strike. He better step down because he failed to put education first.

*MINISTRY of Home Affairs, do you, or don’t you, have any passports? I have just been told by your Swakopmund branch there are no passports until further notice. I applied for renewal on September 27 already. Stop lying to the public!

*NANTU and Napwu leaders have become puppets of government. They don’t represent workers any more. We can’t wait for negotiations if we don’t know what they are. Believe me, it is management cadres who will benefit more even though they contribute nothing to unions.

*PARENTS are too laid back with their kids. I salute schools that initiated drug tests on students. I dare every parent to take their kids. There will be a few surprises waiting for some. Maybe then we will realise what teachers have to deal with each day.

*ABRAHAM Iyambo and David Namwandi, Namcol learners are upset. We wrote English listening examinations in a hall with a big loudspeaker and you couldn’t hear any word. Do you expect us to pass English?

*A HEARTY thank you to all teachers who still put the interests of learners at heart and administered the Standardised Achievement Tests in the midst of the current expression of discontent at their income. The Namibian children feel with and salute you!

*ABRAHAM ‘Nero’ Iyambo fiddles in Cape Town while the Namibian education system burns.

*THANK you Base FM for your afternoon Wacky followed by the nice music. What a way to close off a hectic business day while driving back home!

*SWAPO GRN you can fool some of the people sometime but not all of the people all of the time.

*ARE these Sports Commissioners sick to buy outfits for a night? Are they not getting paid to buy their own clothes? What makes them special to be dressed by the taxpayer?

*LONG distance drivers are like slaves in a democratic Namibia. We receive low income without benefits and disrespect from transport owners. Namibia’s economy depends on export and import. Do something before we act. It is now time!

*PLEASE allow the South African chicken back on the market so that we can have a choice. The Namibian chicken is too expensive. When the South African chicken was on the market it was affordable.

*THE yellow truck of WB Transport, with Otjiwarongo registration, you cannot come into Windhoek and make a u-turn at a red robot. You nearly caused accidents at 17h20 on November 6.

Teachers
*DISAPPOINTED citizen, you are disappointed by government not by teachers. To say they acted recklessly or irresponsibly is testimony to your selfishness. You do not have teachers’ interests at heart but need them as tools for your children, no matter what their problems are. Very sorry!

*IT is sad that the Education Ministry’s top three officials left the country while teachers needed help. It truly shows the nation that they don’t care about the teachers’ plight.

*I AM in such a pain that schools like Jan Mohr and Orban are teaching while others are striking for money that all teachers will enjoy. What a pity.

*THE strike of the teachers is boring and is becoming embarrassing. They are plain unreasonable. Go back to school. You are putting the learners’ future at risk!

*FIRST I had sympathy with the striking teachers but observing with my eyes how they are drinking while picketing disappointed me. Cool boxes packed with alcohol and dropping their kids off at non-striking schools just shows you. It’s the lazy ones on strike. Be serious, then you might be taken seriously.

Service Please
*IT is now going for three weeks that I am waiting for MTC to transfer my contract from my personal name to my business. After dozens of calls and emails to follow-up, all in vain, I requested to speak to the CEO. I was then informed that I am not allowed to speak to the CEO! Is this possible? Are the true colours of having government as major shareholder eventually shining through?

*I AM a trustee for 60 sectional titles. For many years our written requests to the City of Windhoek to place a speed bump before our exit have been completely ignored. This despite frequent accidents continuing to happen at that corner. The United Nations in Klein Windhoek snap their finger and the City closes 40 parking spots in front of Woermann & Brock, well knowing that this will cause discomfort to residents and loss of revenue for surrounding businesses. These businesses have come to have a legitimate right to these parking spaces. The City approved these buildings! They must simply take the City to court and claim their loss of income. I hope Woermann & Brock will lead such legal action against the City. Add the UN too.

*UNAM, how is it possible that payments for services rendered could take up to six weeks to two months after completion of a job? Do I need to believe there is something very suspicious and underground happening in the creditors department? It is not acceptable from an institution such as Unam because you know the consequences the poor man has to bare after spending his own money on those projects.

*THE reluctance of the police to arrest the culprits who locked Haihambo Primary School will cause chaos by unruly parents.

Labour
*WHY is NamWater using qualified people on contract but pay them only a stipend. We are starving.

*RICHARD Kamwi, it is always easier said than done. When Members of Parliament ask for a salary increase they don’t wait for a negotiating team for two years. How can nurses not lose professionalism if they have been patient for two years and nothing is coming forth?

*THERE’S an advert at Directorate: Education for a childcare matron and the requirement is Grade 10 but for chief hostel matron the requirement is only the ability to read and write English. What is wrong with Education? The person who is supposed to supervise doesn’t need a qualification?

Responses to Previous SMSes
*DOREEN Sioka is right... does the person complaining about her remarks think just because government opposes the N$100 grant it’s right to sell your child? I feel sorry for your kids. It’s not government’s responsibility to care for your kids. If you can’t provide, stop having children!

*THE question is did they (prisoners) go into custody to eat nice food? Want to eat nice? Stop committing crimes.

*IF a prisoner who complained in the paper of November 6 is a rapist or a killer, eating soup or raw pap is even decent. He or she deserves to eat rotten food full of maggots. He or she must remember that some of those cooks might have families who were victims of rape or murder. They should forget about decent food.
