SMSes for Friday 23 November 2012

SMS Of The Day *NAMIBIANS, we can strike all we want and ask for many increases but that will not solve our problems. As an accountant in the private sector, I am earning perhaps three or five times more than an accountant in the civil service. Yet, I still cannot afford the most basic thing any human needs, a house! It is about time that we engaged our government on this important matter. Municipalities are not supposed to record profits. They are supposed to record services delivered to the community. And as much as some want to farm, the majority of Namibians only need a roof over our heads.

Food for Thought
*IS the government introducing a toll-gate between the airport and the city?

*URUGUAY President Jose Mujica,Viva! You are an example to the Africans who want to live in luxury for the rest of their lives.

*WHY can’t our government exploit an opportunity to bring in Angola’s oil, that is cheaper, to ease petrol costs and probably inflation?

*WHY can’t the Namibian government have trade relations with the Angolan oil industry? Rather than punishing its own people with higher fuel prices! It’s time you open your eyes! Stop sleeping! The fuel from Angola is of good standard and cheaper for a neighbouring country like ours – or else it wouldn’t be bought by the Americans!

*ONE week Jerry Ekandjo doesn’t speak to The Namibian. The next week he advertises in it? Food for thought!

*I HAVE lost faith in the leadership of the current government. It’s high time they listen to needs of the voters! Why don’t they live like Jose Mujica?

*NBC TV, November 20: “The President must be paid according to his work load.” Well, please apply that rule also to all civil servants. Then you will show us that you are fair and you care.

*IF every person on this earth could have the love of his or her neighbour at heart, this world would be a wonderful place to live in. We would all care for one another so much that no one will ever again sleep on an empty stomach. The world has enough for the provision of each and everyone, but the only problem is that the means of production are unevenly distributed. Let us all unconditionally love and care for one another as a nation.

*MY heart bleeds when I see many Namibians in absolute poverty while we are blessed with many minerals with a population of around two million people. Where are we failing as a nation and how can we deal with this situation successfully? Something needs to be done urgently.

*MINISTER Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, if you introduce overtime to be paid to hostel and teaching staff, it will solve the problem of huge amounts for annual increases in April.

*PETROL on our doorstep! Surely our Ministers can persuade their comrades in Angola to construct a modern refinery as a ‘joint venture’.This will bring the petrol up to standard, reduce petrol costs, reducing delivery costs for all goods and open up petrol trade routes through most of Africa! It’s a win-win situation for all! Just do it!

*I JUST want help with a case on Monday November 19 in court. There was a man accused of eating expired chocolate at his work. The man was not given time to defend himself or look for somebody to defend him. It was his first time in the court. He has five kids. On that day he was sentenced to three months in jail or N$300 but there was no witness and evidence. There was also no investigation. Please help!

Bouquets and Brickbats
*SHAME on you Lydia Amutenya, the public relations officer at Ministry of Mines and Energy, for telling the nation that using fuel from Angola will damage our cars’ engines in the long run. Give us the statistics of vehicles damaged as a result of using this fuel. Some of you don’t think before you say something. The same strategy was used to prevent people from buying import cars. It was Angola who assisted us during hard times. Now some of you are on the payroll of those who own petrol companies. Viva Angola!

*NBC wrestling programme should just be stopped because our children in Otavi are doing the things they see on that programme at schools and they might kill each other. Age restriction will help.

*WHERE does Standard Bank Namibia get its managers from? These people are never available for verification, authorising or to see clients. This is especially true at the Home Loans department where people are always in meetings and blame the new system for their woes.

*SHAME on National Council members! Stop your proposals to enrich the already rich! You need to put real effort into uplifting the lives of our impoverished and unemployed. Many Namibians are hungry, thirsty and sick. You are well off, living in luxury! Have pity on the have nots.

*ALL the first year nursing students who are at Karasburg clinic, thanks for your always smiling faces, helpfulness, with the attitude to lend a quick hand. Hope that the permanent staff learned from you. Keep up the good work and may God bless you. We want nurses like you in our health facilities.

*WHEN Tate Pohamba is talking to his people, anybody who is listening can say wow, this is a good leader but if it comes to action, all poor people are looking to the heaven, not to him.

*SECRETARY to Cabinet Frans Kapofi and PS of Veterans Affairs must just go. They have reached retiring age. Their service was not even up to standard. Kapofi gave civil servants an eight percent increase which is nothing.

*IT really gets on my last nerve to hear people complain about the Ministry of Health every day. I thought it’s only Katutura Hospital. How can Tsandi Hospital discharge a patient who cannot sit without even a wheelchair? How is he going to move? They could have at least informed him on time so that he can buy his own wheelchair if the ministry is so broke. The next thing we expect is to see a patient with broken leg sent home without crutches.

*WE need more people like Avril Cordom, author of the book, ‘Success for the puzzled teenager’, this is what most of our teenagers really need to feed their minds with instead of being on the streets. Parents please get your teenagers a copy of the book. To the author, all the best for the future.

*NAMIB High School in Swakopmund, you asked parents to confirm enrolment of their kids at your school for 2013 in October. Now you are asking for a deposit on the 2013 school development fund. What if some Grade 10 learners do not make it to Grade 11 next year? Will you refund? Are we buying school places?

Service Please
*I BELIEVE ACC needs to intervene, how do we pay back government study loans if Unam keeps some of the refund money to take it to where we don’t know.

*ROADS Authority, please help! Trucks should not be on the road after 19h00 drive right through the night in Nelson Mandela Avenue! Thank you for helping.

*CITY of Windhoek, it is the night of November 20/21. There is an electricity outage for more than six hours in sections of Ludwigsdorf. Where are the two technicians on call? Asleep! They do not answer their phones or their radios. But they will get paid for being on standby. This is another form of corruption and ineptitude! What disciplinary steps are you going to take against these people for dereliction of their duty? Would you like the defrosted contents of our deep freeze on your office table in the morning to get the point across?

*PLEASE IOB lecturers, do your work. Don’t misuse our parents’ money. They struggle to get this money and you are marking because you want to be paid. Remark our assignments please, we did not expect it. Please do something because some of us are already out of Windhoek. I’m totally dissatisfied with the assignments’ results.

*IUM, why are you delaying our refund money? Pay us please. We are the ones who are going to pay back that money. Explain what is delaying you so that we know!

*MINISTRY of Home Affairs and Immigration, tell the public the truth. There are no passports forms in Namibia until next year.

Suggestion Box
*SUPER Sport, please make time for replays, because most of the replays are during the course of play. Especially on channel 204.

*LANDS minister, the idea of fining the farmers by refusing inspection of his/her farm is not such a good move. What will be your next step if offenders happen to afford to pay that fine amount. Will you leave his/her farm without inspection or will you wait until plan C? Close loopholes and let the law take its course. For you to reach your objectives just cancel the idea of fining offenders to avoid complications.

*MINISTER Richard Kamwi, why don’t hospitals have porters? Many people are unemployed while the hospitals are in need of them.

*WHY can’t President Hifikepunye Pohamba make a surprise visit to the Ministry of Home Affairs like Abraham Iyambo and Richard Kamwi? Can you consider retiring this meekulu and some of her grand children. This ministry is giving a bad image of our country, to our visitors and an urgent change is needed.

*IT’S time for the office of the Prime Minister to review, evaluate and change some positions in government. I know of a position at Ministry of Health where the holder has nothing to do for years now but gets paid. Is this not corruption?

*ACCOUNTING Officer of Ministry of Information, please do surprise visits to your regional offices, especially to Otjiwarongo and witness your staff’s attendance.

*KARIBIB Natis, please change your turnabout. People are failing because of that. It’s extremely narrow and that’s not how it should be.

Teachers
*I AM a learner at one of the schools in Katutura. My concern is about the tension and conflicts that teachers in my school are experiencing. Why do you make life difficult for yourself? If you took part in the strike, good, if you did not that’s OK. This is a democratic country. We need not hate each other because of this.

*THOSE teachers who do not know the difference between a legal strike and an illegal strike must look at what NamPower employees did. The right procedures were followed and nobody was taken to court. Learning is a process, you are not too old to learn.

*PLEASE give the teachers their back pay before 2012 ends. Otherwise a very big surprise will wait for you next year when the schools open Abraham Iyambo.

Labour
*MINISTRY of Defence, bring back overtime for cleaners. We have a backlog, especially at the military bases. Toilets need to be cleaned after work so that they can be usable the next day and after dinner the dishes are supposed to be cleaned. Overtime is not only money benefiting but it’s keeping the place clean and in hygienic condition.

*I GOT the fright of my life when I saw my sister’s payslip today. She is a teacher. After 20 years of teaching with a degree, her gross salary is N$9 200 and N$6 300 after just the necessary deductions. I am a GRN accountant with a degree and my gross salary is N$16 000 and after deductions I’m left with N$12 500. Mind you, this is just my eighth year in the public service. Need I say more?

*THEO Namases, please think N$5 million a day for 14 days equals N$70 million plus the loss of the 33 cancelled flights. Can anyone give us the total cost for the 55 pilots’ increments per month. GRN please do something before it is too late.

*WHEN workers, nurses, teachers, police, etc need an increase... those of you in management always say “don’t have money for an increase” and then you refer to the previous increase. Why? Living costs increase daily so when you don’t increase salaries annually how do you expect your employees to survive? How do you expect loyalty and maximum productivity from a hungry, struggling employee?

*SAARA Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, why punish civil servants indirectly? Please give them what’s due to them. A lot of damage has already been done. Be patriotic.

Politics
*IF the presidential candidates have all been members of the Cabinet for some time after independence I would like to know as to what new changes they are planning to bring about and why they could not effect such changes as Cabinet Ministers for more than 20 years.

*WHEN are we going to see new faces as presidential candidates from all of you opposition parties? Could this be one of the reasons why you never win elections?

Response to Previous SMSes
*CLEANERS earning overtime? What nonsense! If they did their job properly during normal working hours there is no need for overtime. With a few exceptions, the same goes for all other employees. Earning overtime and S&T is being abused in Namibia to the detriment of those who really have to work after hours or travel.

*IT is true about people that are smooth talkers when it comes to interviews. But their work is zero at the work place.

*NBC party is arranged with money we contribute on a monthly basis. It is deducted from our salary. Get your information right!

In and from the Region
*CAN someone tell me where the water for the new Jatropha project will come from?

*I’M humbly requesting the Councillor of Oshivelo to include all people who are suffering and don’t have fields from which they can survive during drought. Please help! We are starving!

*CAN somebody help me? Is Uukolonkadhi an isolated island? The tarred road is from Outapi to Ruacana then Ruacana to Omakange, Omakange to Okahao, Okahao to Tsandi and Tsandi back to Outapi. Uukolonkadhi is in that circle. Now I wonder are we not voting well or are we voting for the wrong people? I need somebody to open my mind to know exactly why this is.

*COUNCIL of Okankolo constituency, we need clean water at Oluundje village.
