SMSes for Wednesday 16 May 2012

SMS Of The Day *IT is not the names that need changing but the mindset of everyone. The parliamentarians are still colonised by their own reasoning. They are prisoners of their own negative attitudes. One cannot free your mind by just doing away with a name or a building. Maybe we should do away with all our western names, shops, food, luxury items etc or shall we just rename them instead? Dear parliamentarians, please concentrate on issues that matter, for example, finding the millions that went missing and still get lost on a daily basis in our country. Or do something about the sky-rocketing house prices?

Food for Thought
*I THINK it’s time we whip our country into shape. But first we must start by electing the right government.
– Leevi Namwira, aspiring politician

Bouquets and Brickbats
*HONESTY. During a short lunch break at Hungry Lion in Katima, my son forgot his laptop. Twenty hours later we got it back, thanks to the honest, great and wonderful staff.  You saved our vacation.

*I GOT some of our new banknotes at the ATM today – very modern and stylish indeed!

*I THINK with the shocking revelations of corrupt deals at TransNamib, the time has come for the officials of Natau to be given the boot. They are useless and unworthy of being called leaders. Workers are fighting for survival but the officials only serve their own interests.

*TRANSNAMIB. If everything is true that there are so many wrongs in this company, then Mr Haimbili alone can’t be held responsible! The general manager, senior managers, managers,  supervisors, processing staff and all human resources and finance staff must be fired! Total transformation and restructuring are needed at TransNamib. The board must also resign as they served on governance committees. Now, they’re hiding behind the consultants and only blaming the two.

*MTC marketing: Stop trying to fool your customers! It is either free or not. Stop misleading customers by calling it ‘free’ and adding in fine print ‘extra payment of ...’ for contract phones and tablets. Any advertisement rules in this country?

*NAMIBIANS get real! There are more important issues to discuss than renaming Windhoek and other places.
– Shimao Shalao.

*STOP changing the names of towns. I don’t like it

*ARE police vans now being used as ambulances? Why do they attend to injured people if some of them lack First Aid skills? They just put the injured person/persons in the van and drive off at high speed. In the process they even add to the injuries. We need more police officers trained in basic First Aid, please. Or let us get the medics to handle those cases please.
– Collin Moscow, Tsumeb

Health Matters
*I WELCOME the decision taken in the case of the late Kleopas. Do not just suspend the doctor and nurses but management as well, the whole management. We need to look at policy and standards of operations here.

*MINISTRY of Health needs to staff the hospitals adequately. Some of the so-called negligence is burn out... The nurse to patient ratio at state hospitals is very high – it is not the same as at private hospitals. So journalists should not compare the two.

*I FEEL for the family, the negligence is true. I also lost my baby in that hospital because of a nurse’s negligence. Luckily for me, I didn’t die. So I support you guys on that story.

*DR Kamwi provide enough staff at Katutura maternity to alleviate staff shortages, prevent cleaners working outside their scope of practice and promote quality care.

*NURSES are working under difficult conditions. Minister Kamwi, if you don’t want problems, put a doctor in every maternity ward as patients don’t trust nurses any more. When we call your doctors, they never come!
– Tired nurse

*IT is very painful and shameful that nurses and doctors nowadays do not care about their patients. These people should quit because they do not know their duties and responsibilities. I call upon Ministry of Health to bring back the retired midwives, who are willing to come and assist the public at the state hospitals, because of the experience and skills they had.

*PERHAPS now is the time for the Ministry of Health to start having boot camps for all health professionals and everyone else working in hospitals to remind them of how important and unique their profession is. They should be reminded that, even though they get paid for what they do, earning a living from it is not what is most important. There are human lives involved and that is why their profession is so unique. If they are only doing it for the money, then it is time they quit and find other jobs.

*WE have seen a lot of malpractice in state hospitals, particularly here in the capital, but due to our inadequate educational standards or other means of voicing our concerns: everything goes unpunished. The recent negligence is merely the tip of an iceberg.

*I AM deaf and pity all the deaf people in Namibia people . When we go to the hospital or clinic, we don’t have anybody who explains things to us. Why? Please Dr Richard Kamwi, give a little bit of sign language training to some nurses in hospitals and clinics.

*WILL the counselling be for all war veterans from the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (Plan), the South West Africa Territorial Force and Koevoet?

Law and Order
*I WOULD like to extend heartfelt condolences to the Mouton and Boois families. May their souls rest in peace. How can one person kill four people at a party? What were those attending the party doing? Just watching as the murderer killed one person after another? Surely they could’ve helped to save lives? The Namibian nation has become a sick society. People are being killed in public and nothing is done about it.
– Shocked Hilaria Jorse.

*NATIS Windhoek what happened to the learners test results for May 10, 2012? How can you have results for the 9th and 11th but not the 10th? What’s going on?

*I WOULD like a change at NaTIS. How is it possible for people with drivers licenses to renew their licenses, while students with learner’s licences struggle after they expire. Not all of us have access to cars to get a driver’s licence. All I am saying is that learner’s licences should also be renewed.

*NATIS at Tsumeb! It is unfair to let the nation camp at your office gate for service which starts at 07h00. Now it is too cold in the tents! We need our learner driving licences and our vehicles tested. People started queueing from 22h00 but left again because no numbers were given. Try the method of booking the day or the week before!
– Concerned Tsumeb civil servants

City Fathers
*THE City of Windhoek must urgently de-bush the sidewalks. The high grass is a hazard for motorists as we cannot see approaching cars at T-junctions.

In and From the Regions
*SHAME on the DTA councillors in Opuwo and Epupa who run around claiming that their people are marginalised. All development has stopped at Ovinyange and Oukongo because of politics but councillors don’t intervene. Politics can intoxicate people.

*HOW can traditional leaders at Ovinyange refuse a hammer mill which will bring relief to the residents. Is development only taken to some regions or is it only some regions which accept development. Come on, stop self destruction! Think about the poor.

*MUNICIPALITY of Keetmanshoop stop selling multiple ervens to an individual! How does that help the social and financial development of residents? These multiple ervens sold to individuals are not being even used while there are people who are homeless and need land to put up shelters for their families!

*GOVERNOR of Oshikoto region and councillor of Guinas district, do you know that people from Otanag village are still sharing water with animals from wells which they dug for themselves? Please come and provide us with boreholes for clean water! It has been too long and this is not why we have voted for you.
– Chris H, Guinas

Labour Issues

*LANGER Heinrich Uranium Mine. Why don’t you advertise vacancies internally first and give us contractors with Grade 12 a chance to apply first? We are tired of being exploited by the contract labour system. No benefits and poor salaries! Enough is enough!

*WHY do casuals at TransNamib not have a right to talk about things? The reason they are given is that they won’t be taken on by the next contractor. Either you are a hard worker or do not have someone permanent to defend you. Where is the ACC.

NBC

*NBC expects us to pay TV licence but they screen old movies over and over again. By the way, why can’t you screen Big Brother even if it’s once a week. You are ripping off the viewers.

* WOERMANN Brock, Soweto – please stop selling expired dairy products.
n STANDARD Bank,  please get your house in order. Ever since you introduced your new system things have gone from bad to worse, especially with your debit orders. One month the debit does not go through. The next month it doubles because of the previous month. But the worst thing is it doubles that amount. And then a person has to wait for the whole year for a reversal to be made. The new system is supposed to make things easier. The only lesson I have learned from your new system is to check my statement almost every week. And I advise other clients to do so too.

Responses to recent SMSes
*CITY of Windhoek, a concern was previously raised about the fenced off pavement at the new  Ministry of Gender building next to the police station in Independence Avenue. What about a walkway for pedestrians? If a private person had done that, then the City Police would quickly demand that the structure be demolished. Even if money was paid for additional space, what about pedestrian safety?
– Concerned city resident.

*I’M a learner at one of the non-performing schools and I think our teachers just come to school because they have nothing else to do. It is evident from the way they teach without any drive and thenrunning home before the bell rings. Only two teachers are trying. So like principals, teachers should get a five year term.
