Food for Thought
*FIRST fertility clinic opens in Windhoek? Hardly a month goes by without a report on another baby having been dumped/murdered, now we need a fertility clinic? Whatever happened to adoption?
Bouquets and Brickbats
*CONGRATS to The Namibian newspaper. After many SMSes the government took notice about the negligence of their houses in Lüderitz. The first house has been restored and looks beautiful. Don’t stop, there are many more to be restored. Thank you.
*WE all deserve a second chance in life. Maybe Big Brother Africa is Lady May’s to make up for the Namas 2011.
*WHY can’t The Namibian display a proper updated timetable for the theatre?
*MEDIA Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) Namibia thank you for telling the truth about our journalists. They have tarnished the media to a point that even the trusted newspapers are no longer worth the respect they are supposed to enjoy. This is similar to blood diamonds, where the reporter does not care about the damage as long as they make money. Newspapers have become weapons. I hope the editors and Ministry of Information pick something from the report for immediate attention.
*UNAM dominated by expats: my heart cries whenever I read this type of article. First of all why do you celebrate your anniversaries if you have nothing to be proud of? Let me give you one good example. I work at one of the best parastatals here in Namibia. It grows its own people and currently has phased out most of its expatriates. Why should your adverts aim higher than what you have produced? Employ your own products and grow them. While they are teaching, they are also learning. Twenty-two years of independence and you are still using the defence mechanism. No wonder parents have lost faith in your institution. Good name, but bad products. May God help this nation. Amen! Ndaafetwa
Politics
*I HOPE the church leaders in Namibia, in general, and in Ohangwena Region in particular, will respond to Minister Ekandjo’s speech advocating Swapo colours in church and songs at funerals. This must not go unchallenged before it brings chaos and conflict among the faithful in the church. Why in Ohangwena Region?
*MINISTERS Iivula-Ithana and Jerry Ekandjo do not have the well-being of Ohangwena Region at heart. They went there on Cassinga’s commemoration to sow the seed of division.
*MINISTER Jerry Ekandjo preached at Ohangwena ‘Swapo … is a party of God’, the same sermon as apartheid South Africa preached that the National Party was the party of God. It is a lack of reverence for God from the part of the Minister.
*SWAPO leaders have lost their vision. Two years ago Jerry Ekandjo called Swapo supporters to put party flags on their shacks and to paint their teeth with Swapo colours. Now he want his supporters to wear party colours at church and sing of Swapo songs at funerals.
*I JUST read an article about Jerry Ekandjo saying members should wear party colours to church, which is not good. Now you want to take politics into church. That’s not good for church.
– Concerned church member
*DOES Minister Ekandjo understand his role? How can he say people must wear party colours at church! Honestly is that all he can think of and say? Swapo may be a party of God but is there one that is of Satan? I think somebody has to explain to him what a church is or what the role of churches are.
*MINISTER Ekandjo your speech regarding wearing Swapo colours in church is totally wrong. Church is one heart, one love and one colour and that colour is Christ, our identity.
– LN, Shimhanda
Education
*OH please Unam, after more than 20 years still claiming there are non-Namibians who qualify to take up the leaderships positions then there is something seriously wrong with our institutions. Are these foreigners being understudied by Namibians? Please tell the nation the true reasons you are not promoting the Namibians.
*DIRECTOR of Education Hardap Region why do you allow the primary school children from Rehoboth to beg for money with collection lists in Windhoek shopping malls?
*MINISTRY of Education, when are we getting our loan contracts? Why did you send us an SMS saying our loans were approved and our names appear on the list but yet our contracts are not yet printed? Tell us when are we getting them?
– Worried student.
*MINISTRY of Education, can you please tell us whether the bush allowance has been cancelled permanently or if it is a temporary thing? We need to know because some of us were paying our houses with it and are afraid of running three months in arrears and losing our houses.
*IT is really shocking to see the corruption in education, especially in the north, where people are promoted on a tribal basis. My head of department for languages can’t even communicate in English, yet she’s there. What improvement can she make? Shame on corruption and Namlish in the North.
Health Matters
*MINISTER Kamwi, many female nurses and cleaners in their 40s and above at Engela state hospital are forever attacking patients and visitors with sharp tongues. They really need customer service training.
In and From the Regions
*MINISTRY of Justice in Luderitz the magistrate’s court was last renovated 28 years ago, even the curtains are falling apart. I made them myself 28 years ago. There is no paint, no garden any more: only a heap of rubbish outside. Let the prisoners clean up and plant a garden.
*CHIEF Regional Officer, Omusati Regional Council. Please sign the payroll deduction agreement with Nammic, as we desperately want to apply for the most afordable loans at that institution.
*NO running water in the Oshiteni village in Omuntele constituency. Is Sacky Nangula aware of this. Sometimes it is open around 01h00 and 02h00 early in the morning
*WHEN will Ohangwena constituency develop? We used to travel long distances to fetch water. Since independence we are drinking dirty water, which could affect our health. Many people are flocking to the urban areas for a better future. Our government must distribute tap water in our constituency to avoid a risk to our health.
*WALVIS Bay municipality will you please provide us with an area where we can build our squatter camps? We are tired of being mistreated by the house owners we rent from.
Service Please
* DSTV instead of getting better you are getting worse. On Monday night I called from 19h00 until 20h00 without any response. Why do you have a hotline when it goes unanswered?

Responses to recent SMSes
*WELL done to Monday’s writer of Cassinga Day, we’re all crying for our beloved country as our current leaders are spoiling it with corruption, poverty and unemployment. Wake up Namibia.
*THAT all teaching staff should get a five-year contract and go if learners fail? Then all learners, who fail two consecutive internal examinations in a grade, should also not be transferred to the next level/grade in that phase. And they should only be allowed to repeat once in a phase. If they do not pass after repetition, then they must be diverted to vocational schools. Many learners play, some are spoiled by their parents and have everything hence there are no compelling circumstances for them to study. All angles must be scrutinised before giving contracts to teachers.
– A teacher.
*WHY are the Head of State and Minister of Education silent about people who are sabotaging development at Haihambo Primary school by advocating the return of the donation from Hidipo Hamutenya?
