Food for Thought
*THE ruling party is blessed with weak opposition parties that’s why a lot goes unpunished. Namibia let’s order our anti-depressants.
Bouquets and Brickbats
*AIR Namibia and Namibia Airports Company you have a very serious theft problem at Hosea Kutako International Airport baggage handling. On Sunday a passenger (who has had goods stolen from his luggage before) looked behind the conveyor ‘curtains’ and saw workers open cases and remove choice items. Theft equals instant dismissal plus fair compensation for all thefts reported during their period of employment! Government of Namibia it’s a national disgrace -affecting Namibians and tourists Alike!
– Local OAP
*CAN The Namibian and New Era explain how the late Chief Alfons Maharero is classified as a direct descendent of Chief Samuel Maharero when he (Alfons) was a son of Edward Maharero, a young brother to Samuel Maharero?
*THE Namibian can be unashamedly biased. From the entire Unam graduation proceedings, they only found a negative story to highlight which is the President ‘disturbed by recent incidents at Unam’. Please your reporters should leave our university alone if they have nothing positive to report on.
– Proud alumni.
*ANOTHER birthday. More squandered money on congratulatory messages in the press. Does anyone even read these things?
Business as Usual
*WHAO! TransNamib must have made so much money that the N$500 million lost did not hamper operations. Now that’s a real turn around for a company which needed N$15 million to pay salaries not so long ago.
*I’M so sad to learn that the bilateral trade agreement with Angola is in jeopardy. We have bilateral trade agreements with many overseas countries but not Angola. It doesn’t make sense. What is going on? Ministry of Trade explain.
– Shimao Shalao.
Running the Show
*MINISTER Jerry Ekandjo welcome to the Confused Nation’s Club! You rightfully ask why number three is appointed instead of number one? That is an irony. Where have you been? The Agribank appointed number four, the Government Institutions Fund (GIPF) is re-advertising after the board recommended a suitable candidate who passed the interviews! What you are demanding to see is what the public should demand from the two institutions above! The Anti-Corruption Commission, kamma did an investigation into the Agribank issue after the President intervened. We are yet to see that outcome! So, dear Comrade, welcome to the confused nation where interviews are just formalities and not the deciding factors in who is suitable!
City Fathers
*MAYOR of Windhoek we have made several complaints to the city about the sewage water running through Franc Dollar, Diamant Street in Khomasdal. Please do something about it, we can’t take it any more.
*CITY of Windhoek when will the double lanes be extended from Truck Port to South Port. The single lane has not been sufficient for traffic for many years now due to a bottle neck effect which is fed by the double lanes from Klein Kuppe. A circle at Safari would have managed the flow much better.
*FIRE brigade as far as I know your water pipes are only to be used to put out fires. Go to Katutura clinic and see what they use it for – watering their gardens! The Minstry of Health should be fined!
Lost and Found
*I KAYAMBU Simon Megameno, lost my ID and other cards in Walvis Bay, please contact me on 081-817-5029.
*DIERGAARDT Winston Wilfried of Rehoboth your ID has been found. Contact 081-729-0395 or 081-608-6536.
Health Matters
*IT is so disappointing to see the health sector in our country not performing when it comes to rendering service to the Namibian nation, things that never happened before independence. Nurses before 1990 were trained to serve people and knew how without proper qualifications. Nurses of today study for degrees but don’t know how to serve their own people. Please bring back the old nurses from retirement to show graduates how to work with people.
*MINISTER Richard Kamwi what about all the other lives lost due to you and your department’s lack of concern for sick Namibians? Look at the filth in the wards, toilets without seats, no hot water for patients during winter, thin old, dirty blankets. What have you done about the mess thrown from the nurses hostel at Central Hospital? What are you doing to upgrade the state hospitals in the capital with regard to diabetes, paediatric or cancer treatments? When last has the Central Hospital seen a coat of paint?
Law and Order
*MINISTRY of Safety and Security please consider safety at the magistrate’s court. There are no security personnel, not enough police officers - one’s life is in danger. This is really a stressful environment. Please Nampol station commander Okakarara do something urgently.
– Concerned observer
Labour Issues
*NATIONAL Planning Commission I want to know what criteria you used for the pay outs of people who work for the census. All of a sudden only a certain number of people are apparently eligible for the last payouts.
Note: The Namibia Statistics Agency had an advert in The Namibian on Monday regarding outstanding census payments. Their call centre number is 061-2834327.
In and From the Regions
*OPUWO clean up your town! You are an embarrassment to Namibia!
*MUNICIPALITY of Walvis Bay roads department do something please, the painted islands from the robots to Tunacor are not visible.
*I AM tired of Amutanga community members using and grabbing big portions of land for their own interests and selfishness. Look at that tiny kindergarten in a big fenced area? And it has taken up much area of our grazing land. Mr Headman can you do something?
Please Help
*THE Namibia Estate Agents Board must please consider having the examinations written in Oshakati as well, starting with the June examination. A lot of people want to write but travelling to Windhoek is a problem.
Service Please
*NORED. Many people have paid for power line connections but we have been without electricity being connected to our premises for over a year now. We are tired of speaking to your staff members who make empty promising staff members. We call upon our government to check Nored’s slow service in rural areas. Minister of Mines and Energy help us out.
*NAMPOST please explain to your clients why an ordinary airmail letter always takes two weeks from and to South Africa and even three weeks from or to Germany? Mail within Germany only takes 2-3 days so the rest of the time has to be in Namibia. This is the 21st century, how can it be?
*STANDARD Bank service is poor. They deducted my money and told me they would reverse it the same day. I went to see a consultant but I’ve been waiting for a week and haven’t received my money yet.

NBC
*IS NBC showing highlights of Big Brother? We don’t know what’s going on in BB houses.
Sporting
*THE Namibian gives so much support to sports articles referring to Harry Simon who seems to be only fighting in your sport pages. Is the Dubai fight on? No, it’s way too late now. Let’s watch the next fight on your back page again. Harry first discipline yourself and maybe, yes, maybe the country will give you one more chance. Because if you don’t fight this year then just forget about boxing and become a bouncer.
Responses to recent SMSes
*MY good advice to the truck driver complaining about the unavailability of condoms at a certain service station, next time you come across such thing simply abstain. Brother you won’t die, sex is not a need anywhere.
– Mutuli
*IMPORTING nurses is not a solution but rather a burden to our local nurses because they have to translate and even teach these foreign doctors and nurses, who will go back to their country! Nurses know what they are talking about. Train our youth who will be here to stay!!
*TO the reader questioning cheque refunds from the Ministry of Finance: be happy that your returns are processed promptly. My last assessed return was in 2007. The ministry owes me large amounts - maybe this is why they give empty promises whenever I enquire.
*ON the SMS comment in Monday’s paper about a concerned parent saying ‘Seize the Day’ should not be watched by kids. Note to this parent. The NBC has changed the time slot to 21h00. I am sure children are supposed to be sleeping already at this time and if not, parents should be home to control what their children are watching. One should always bear in mind that NBC is for everyone, young and old and that is why different programmes are scheduled at different time slots. There is nothing wrong with ‘Seize the Day’. What the NBC can do is perhaps put an age limit.
