SMSes for Thursday 24 May 2012

SMS Of The Day *WHEN some of our leaders cannot act decisively on bread-and-butter issues, or when some national leaders hold grudges against those who differ with them, it shows that some are leaders by accident instead of being leaders driven by principles. – Dr Elijah Ngurare, Arandis

Food for Thought
*WHY do municipalities always start their shack demolition campaigns at the onset of winter? You don’t get more heartless than that!

Bouquets and Brickbats
*I CAN’T wait to eat our own chicken. Thank you Namib Poultry.

*I WOULD like to congratulate Namib Poultry. The chicken is the best. I was tired of having tasteless chicken from other countries. Keep it up. Produce more tasty chicken.

*AS a pensioner who spent seven days in the Windhoek Central State Hospital having surgery to remove bladder stones and an enlarged prostrate by a very professional Cuban doctor, I have only praise for the overworked staff who looked after me. I agree the food is not a la carte and the plumbing in the bathroom needed attention, but what do you want? I could not afford to have it done privately and I would recommend the State alternative to anyone in a similar situation.
– Grateful, Swakopmund

*THUMBS up for the Namibia Wildlife Resorts board for waking up after eight years! Are they afraid of losing their sitting fees and S&T of N$1.6 million?

*THE Bank of Namibia can issue as many press statements as they wish but one thing for sure is that the new currency is a shame to this great nation.

*MR Joel Kaapanda, The Namibian is right in telling the truth. It is true there is a building of a personality cult.

*PLEASE journalists cum editors don’t wash your dirty linen in the street. I was shocked to read an attack levelled against an editor of a weekly newspaper by a managing editor of another weekly newspaper. Is this what we call media ethics? As readers, we don’t deserve to read about this. We deserve to read about issues affecting the nation but not about your personal issues.

Running the Show
*WE are being confused by our leaders. They cry foul about imperialists, yet they allow them and invite them back to Africa. What double standards.

*MINISTER Jerry Ekandjo, Mr Ganaseb has a contract with the Omaruru town council because he was appointed. Now you want him to be replaced because you want Mr Kavaa simply because he is Swapo. We the ratepayers will pay for two CEO’s salaries which means the rates will go up. Think about the people, Minister Ekandjo.
– E Tsuseb

Law and Order
*FOREIGN business person robbed of N$2.2 million! As much as I feel that those Namibians should be prosecuted for the crime, it serves the foreign business person right. Any business person who comes for legitimate investments doesn't walk around with N$2.2 million doing ‘backdoor’ deals! Too many business people travel to Africa with cash in the hope of doing corrupt business deals under the table. Why do we have a Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry?

*DO we have any lawyers in the country who specialise in patent protection? Our ideas get stolen by companies who invite us for presentations. They listen to your presentation, make you wait on a decision but meanwhile have stolen and used your ideas. The rest of the world is protected against it why should those with money in our country just steal and make money with it. Please lawyers, advertise in the media so we know where to find you. Protect your ideas before you do a presentation, take my advice.

*NATIS at Eenhana we need chairs at your testing centre. You generate much money out of our pockets.

*I WENT to NaTIS Lüderitz this morning (Wednesday) for my learner’s test. Apparently the traffic officer is on leave. How come there is only one traffic officer in such a town? What if an emergency or accident happened in town?

*MINISTRY of Justice we have family members in prisons awaiting trial for almost 10 years. Why wait for so long without trial and bail is denied? Please do something we’re tired of waiting. We need our family members at home. Justice delayed is justice denied!

*CAN City Police please do something about the taxis at the main entrance of Central Hospital. They are a hazard to all road users.

What’s In A Name
*WHAT is Namibia turning into? Why does the government want to change the capital city’s name? It seems like the government has time to waste on unimportant things while a lot of Namibians are living in poverty! First the notes and now this. We need serious answers.

*NAME change is nowadays a big issue. I want to say no names must be changed anymore. What? Sam Nujoma Drive, Sam Nujoma Stadium, Sam Nujoma streets in almost every little town. There are many heroes out there. Thank you young people of The Namibian Youthpaper of May 22, you made your point brilliantly clear.

*I SERIOUSLY can’t stand the fact that our towns' names should be changed. What will they achieve from this? It’s ridiculous! Rather spend the money on more important things please!

*SOME foreigners played a vital role in making us who we are, the likes of sailor Lüderitz. How and when are we going to acknowledge them? They were not colonialists, hence leave some of those names alone. Make your own history through discoveries and people will appreciate you.

*WHAT is wrong with the names of the towns and the money? The government really has a lot of better things to do then changing names.

City Fathers
*TO all councillors in Windhoek why can’t you sit together to plan shack life? At least put shacks in order and give them electricity, water, toilets and streets. From Okahandja Park to Havana is shameful to people coming from other countries. Councillors what work are you doing for the poor people in the city? What are you doing in your offices without improvements for people to see.

Health Matters
*HOW can the nurses put a woman whose child is stillborn in with those with their babies. How will this woman heal emotionally?

*THE Ministry of Health and Social Services must please do something with regard to the cockroaches and rats running around in the Katutura Hospital. And I thought the staff and Minister Richard Kamwi knew something about health or maybe they don’t care as they and their families don’t get treated at state facilities.

*IF there are rats and cow heads on the hospital grounds, it’s no wonder that jackals move in to clean up the mess. They’re probably protecting us against the bubonic plague!

Labour Issues
*CAN anyone please tell me how many hours an employee must work during the month. Is it 180 hours or 195 hours because I am really confused.

*I NEED to know if a Diploma in Local Government Studies is useless because it costs money to study, but no posts are advertised in any newspaper. Why do we have to study something if in the end it has no benefit?

NBC
n NBC please your ‘Whatagwan’ music is the same every day.

In and From the Regions

*SWAKOPMUND municipality what are you going to do about the huge public toilet of DRC against the road to Henties Bay. Toilet paper everywhere!

*KALKRAND village council can’t pay the casuals who clean the graveyard but are going to Tsumeb for a sporting event.

*KATIMA Mulilo town council how can you require people to pay 50 per cent of the purchase price while ministerial approval has not yet been granted and the plots on offer are not yet serviced?

*I RECEIVED an offer from the Katima Mulilo town council to purchase an erf on May 21 and requires me to pay 50 per cent before May 31. If I fail to do so they will offer the plot to the next person. What type of nonsense is this?

*IS the Katima Mulilo in financial woes or what? How can you give notice of days for people to pay half of the purchase price of the plots? Please get real!

*MULTICHOICE stop that answering machine of yours. We lose a lot of credit while holding on for operators. At times the credit finishes with no one attending to us.

Responses to recent SMSes
*WHILE it might be true that doctors and nurses work under difficult conditions there can be no excuses for gross negligence against patients in their care. We want to see improvements in the systems and justice for those who died.
