Food for Thought
*THE future of Namibia is dark if corruption continues without any challenge. It seems everybody in Namibia is afraid, churches, NGOs etc are just quiet. What is wrong with us?
Bouquets and Brickbats
*GWEN Lister is spot on in her ‘Political Perspective’ of Friday, May 18. There are so many things that I want to say, but she says it on behalf of many of us who are not able to express it as well as she does. Whatever President Pohamba says about corruption is just window dressing. I can’t wait for his term to end! Thank you so much Gwen. Namibia loves you and appreciates your input.
*WELL said Christof Maletsky in your column about corruption. Fact: those who shout the loudest are often the main culprits.
* THEO-BEN Gurirab is a national unifying figure and a true leader to follow when it comes to national reconciliation. I concur with him on what he wrote about the late Andreas Zacky Shipanga, the co-founder of OPO/Swapo.
*I LIKE the new dollars but it’s missing the Namibian flag.
*IT’S been two days and the new bank notes are deteriorating at a rapid pace. Literally tearin’ and wearin’. Who was contracted to print these?
*THANK you so much for helping me. I found my ID.
*IN a country where political cowardice, backstabbing and corruption are highly rewarded and those calling ‘a spade a spade; are openly vilified and crucified, where rising in defence of the truth is tantamount to economic and financial self destruction, it is very refreshing to read the article on the Nujoma notes in your edition of Friday, May 18. Congratulations Alfred for fearlessly calling a spade a spade!
– August Maletzky
*I FULLY agree with the comments of Alfred Hengari in Friday 18/5 The Namibian. The glorification of Mr Nujoma is becoming too much. The current new notes are just the cherry on top. Please stop glorifying Mr Nujoma. There are many Namibians who have done a lot for this country. I fail to appreciate the new bank notes due to this. The Bank of Namibia should have known better.
*DEAR Namibians do you realise that there was a time in Germany where each city town and village had a street named after Adolf Hitler? That the same was the case in South Africa with Hendrik Verwoerd? I am not comparing Sam Nujoma to either of the above but enough is enough!
*BRILLIANT is the only term to describe pages 10 and 11 of Friday’s The Namibian. Both pages will be framed in their entirety and anybody that comes along and enquires about the state of the Namibian nation will be redirected to this document hanging on my wall.
*THANK you concerned doctor for your e-mail ‘Beware of Winter Prescriptions’ May 11. Dr Bernard Haufiku’s response ‘Beyond Prescriptions’ May 15 is simply as he phrased it ‘chasing rats while the house is on fire’. Doctors continue to over prescribe. We’re still getting antibiotics for flu!
*THE Anti-Corruption Commission doesn’t answer their calls. Why?
Running the Show
*MR President hear and rescue the poor rural people with travel subsidies for transport. Or provide government buses at a reasonable prices. People are struggling with the skyrocketing taxi costs in the country. Many rural poor cannot afford them and the majority have returned to walking long distances.
*MINISTER Erkki Nghimtina what do you think about NaTIS operating hours? 08h00 - 11h30 and 13h00 - 15h30 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. And 09h00-11h30 and 13h00 -15h30 on Wednesday. That is six and seven hours per day respectively. The nation is crying about long queues and chaos, but are you surprised with such short working hours? And why are you quiet about this? Letters and SMSes are being sent to the daily papers, people are calling the radio stations. What more do you want us to do before you act? In fact you don’t seem to care at all. Have you noticed that all under-performing state owned enterprises are under your ministry? Look at TransNamib, NaTIS, Roads Authority. Look at our roads and road signs. What do you think you are doing? And Mr President your silence is irking this nation.
*HOME Affairs Minister is there no other option of helping youth, who need their full birth certificates to apply for study loans, but their names are not yet in your new system? We are being turned away to wait. Until when? This delays our further studies unnecessarily. Please do something.
From the House
*POLITICIANS in Namibia should find real problems to tackle. The name ‘Windhoek’ does not make anyone go to bed on a hungry stomach. I don’t see how renaming Windhoek will help this country much. We can think of real problems (eg corruption) that must be taken care of.
Business as Usual
*MR Tsheehama and your team please intervene and save Namibia Airports Company and TransNamib from incompetent boards
Education
*UNIVERSITY of Namibia I am a student and would like to hear from you why they don’t refund us the whole amount that they owe us? It is our own money that the government pays for us. Why do Polytechnic students get their whole amount or is the government loan not the same?
*INTERNATIONAL University of Management when are you planning to give us our diplomas? We have been waiting since last year. Dr Namwandi can’t you or anyone do anything about it?
Health Matters
*DR Kamwi I would like to request that the smoking please be prohibited in closed or indoor facilities such as restaurants. Some restaurants have already moved ahead with no smoking areas but unfortunately others are covered in smoke making it a serious health issue for people suffering with asthma. Regards, Concerned Citizen.
Law and Order
*CITY Police please remove all unroadworthy taxis from the roads. Others are polluting the air with exhaust gases. Act now!
n TSUMEB NaTIS management please do something about your poor disorganised registering of people for learners and drivers licences. It is disappointing to sit for 48 hours and yet be told to go back home. Please change.
In and From the Regions
*THE old Okahandja Hotel in the middle of the town is not something to look at. Please municipality do something to make our town the place to be. An important bank (Standard Bank) is very close by.
– Concerned inhabitant.
*MUNICIPALITY of Walvis Bay, how long must the residents of Twahangana Street wait for the road to be tarred? They live like prisoners in their homes.
City Fathers
*LET the Prime Minister order the mayor, chief executive officers and councillors of the City of Windhoek live in Freedomland, Havcana and Babilon for two weeks and report back to the government. Perhaps this will help them to work hard and speed up the development in the city. Example the Ramatex facility has been unused for the past four years. The city is holding the investor’s assets in a legal dispute when there are investors ready to make to huge investments to reopen the facility for job creation.
– Jobless citizen
Service Please
*BANK Windhoek Katima branch should improve on service. How can you have two tellers to serve more than 300 people on May 18?
– Disappointed client.
*STANDARD Bank Ondangwa. Six ATMs only for the whole of Ondangwa and most of them are out-of-order on pay days, salaries wait until midnight to be cleared.
*WHY has Outapi post office only got two tellers? These tellers serve a huge number of people from different parts of the country and are quite slow.
– Nesili, Outapi.
*HELP! I want to stop a debit order of AZ Africa but they don’t answer the phone or emails.
*NAMCOL head office should improve and pay the tutors on time! Up to now they have not paid us for April. Even the enrolment officers have not yet been paid and enrolment ended on March 1. We worked for that money already. Please ask someone in charge to tell us where the delay is.
– Concerned tutor, Kavango region.
*MINISTRY of Home Affairs at Outapi, please verify the documents/applications before processing. Most incorrect details on documents are caused by your officers.
And the Winner Is!
*SO how did they decide on the finalists of the Windhoek lager competition?
*CONGRATULATIONS your cell No has won R120 000 in SA successfully hosting the World cup.(Ref No B40SA) to claim call Helen on +27729684160 from Nokia prom 2012. I received that SMS on May 17 but when I try to call nobody picks up. Just be aware.
– Mwiikinghi H.
Note: Be careful of these kinds of messages. Unless you have entered a competition and have proof of that, it is very unlikely that you have won anything. These are fraudulent schemes trying to get you to provide personal details which are used in further frauds.

NBC
*WHERE does NBC get its movies from? You people are just showing old movies. We are tired. Wake up and learn from One Africa TV.
– Jack M
*PLEASE NBC TV create a weekly programme of soccer legends like: Oscar Mengo, Orlando Damaseb, Selle Auchumeb, Maniki Neidel, Corry Urikhob Draka Oom Liekie, Oom Tommy Ushona, Tiger Francis, Moripe Goraeb, Shakes Khumob etc to share their memories and experiences while still alive. They were and are our heroes who brought different cultures together through soccer when we were divided. Please NBC these memories might change the upcoming stars.

Responses to recent SMSes
*TO the person who made a statement regarding the so-called colonial municipalities please wake up and smell the coffee. The majority of municipalities are managed by cadres from the ruling party and if you have a problem with the way they deal with issues (in this case the provision of land to the masses), take them to task (I am sure you voted for them) or vote for another party.
*NINETY-FIVE per cent of nurses in Namibia are dedicated, nice but overworked people. Don’t throw the whole basket away because of a few rotten apples. How many of us are really prepared to do their job with that poor pay and long hours? Thank you to all you nurses who try to do a good job under adverse conditions!
*NURSES or doctors are not as bad as it sounds. The system is failing them. Please government do something good for these categories especially nurses. Nurses have been working under the staff establishment of 22 years ago, while the population is increasing every day and new diseases are emerging every year. No additional staff, no new facilities, no better salaries. It’s time the Cabinet looks at this as lawmakers. The community should start appreciating what health workers are doing for them despite the conditions they are working under.
*MINISTER Kamwi saved many lives of the Namibian people through HIV-AIDS programmes. Why are those calling for his head about something he was not directly involved with? Please Namibians learn to appreciate and not only criticise.
*I AM not an expert in midwifery. Teach me Cde Kamwi! Is there a way for trained medical practitioners to know that the lady in labour will not give birth naturally or on her own? If yes; something is not right. Women are being left in labour for two days or more. An operation is only thought about at the eleventh hour; hence a baby is lost in the process or both the baby and the mother. Please minister! Call the hospitals to order!
*WHAT was said by comrade Councillor Sipapela of the Caprivi Region is true. You never know when an assassin or hit man may make his move. So we should consider our President’s safety.
