SMSes for Monday 14 May 2012

SMSes Of The Day *TO all nurses. Let us make sure that no pregnant woman or her baby or any other patient dies because of our negligence.

*THE best gift, on this Mother’s Day, is for us all to ensure that never, never again shall any woman die like Meme Kleopas. As a nation we have failed her! What a shame!

Food for Thought
* I AM worried about what our definition of a hero has become? Andreas Shipanga played a huge role in our country’s fight for independence. What criteria do our leaders use for someone to be buried at Heroes’ Acre? If you read the article about him,you can agree that he deserves to be called a hero, as he evidently and without a doubt played a very important role in the liberation struggle. May his soul rest in peace.

Bouquets and Brickbats
*CONGRATULATIONS Anti-Corruption Commission for finding that sexual favours bought some qualifications at Unam. Previously, girls who were intimidated with bursary suspension and cancelation of results, had sex for improved results. Who will admit it under such circumstances?

Politics
*DID Minister Ekandjo call for opposition parties not to wear their party colours in church? There was no problem with that before the formation of the Rally for Democracy and Progress. Were there no opposition parties before RDP? Or were Swapo members not wearing party colours at church services before? Those church leaders who sympathise with the RDP, that is their democratic right and let us exercise our rights. Has there ever been a church service disrupted by people in party colours?

*YES it is Comrade Jerry again. Maybe he will also ask people to wear their attire to work so that we can see who is Swapo or not. It is understandable to ask people to wear party colours when they attend party events or meetings. Before long I think he will ask sports lovers to don their Swapo colours when attending sport events. This whole idea about party colours at worship, funerals etc looks like it has not been thought through and is about creating more confusion amongst those who believe everything comes from the leadership.

*IF there is nothing wrong wearing Swapo attire at church, then there is nothing wrong to wear RDP or DTA attire at school and work. Why only at church? Think, Comrade Ekandjo, think.

*PEOPLE with big mouths like Jerry Ekandjo don’t deserve to be politicians. Please Minister  Ekandjo if you don’t have anything to say to the nation, rather be quiet. Why do you want Swapo in church? Leave the church to the pastors and bishops.

*MAYBE it was wrong for tate Jerry Ekandjo to publicly invite people to wear Swapo colours in church. And I think he shouldn’t utter such things again in his life, if he wants to be popular. But I really don’t think it’s such a big deal one to wear his/her party colours to church. I mean you can wear DTA or Congress of Democrats (COD) colours for that matter. It’s just an outfit. It’s just like a nurse showing up at an RDP rally in her uniform, or a pastor attending a Swanu rally in his black pastoral gown. Is that still an issue?

*JERRY Ekandjo has run out of ideas. He is just seeking attention in this newspaper over what people say about his stupid remarks. Go to your church and continue with what you want us to do in our churches.

*DOES Minster Ekandjo also sleep in Swapo colours?

Law and Order
*A MAN with not one, but two, criminal convictions against him is allowed to work in our legal system at the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court. Did no one do a background check before he was employed?

In and From the Regions
*ARIAMSVLEI border post. Veterinary Services it’s very urgent. Trucks with livestock were waiting for service but your officials didn’t report on duty on Saturday night at 22h00. Please do something. It’s a matter of time and money wasting.

*PLEASE mayor and council of Luderitz what are your duties in the town? I have been living in the old location for over 25 years with no electricity and sharing two toilets with more than 50 people. We need better houses. We are tired of living in shacks. Please town council of Luderitz do something.

*ONDANGWA town council, please shape up! That family of five pigs is still living at the open market! Customers for fresh food will stay away from this unsanitary health hazard. Kapana vendors will keep suffering as a result.

*I REALLY wonder what’s happening with Hope Centre in Tsumeb? Was the centre built to accommodate couples or children in need? I’m worried about what will happen after a month. There are those who were supposed to go to Unam but the chance was taken away them.
– Worried Tsumeb elder.

*ARIAMSVLEI. This town is the mirror to Namibia and we invite all political leaders to come and have a look. Twenty-two years after independence we are living in the poorest situation, with no basic services, no toilets and the people making use of the bush. We want development. Hear our cry. We are hungry also.

Education
*OMUTHIYA Iipundi SSS teachers must stop dating our fellow learners. Principal please do something.

*WHAT has become of Unam? Chancellor start getting your staff in order and start taking your students seriously. How it is possibe to be paying Unam for 10 years and being stuck with a module for over five years? Many, many students are complaining about the same lecturer but nothing is done. All you care about is fattening your pockets while you are emptying ours. Take note many students are tired of your poor services.

Health Matters
*DR Kamwi, two lives lost is a shame, but you can change that. Technically for a start, install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all receptions, kitchens, corridors and rest rooms, all rooms except patient’s rooms and maternity waiting rooms. You will have a starting point for change. Get rid of all rotten apples and know that change is brought about by medical, engineering and education components.

Labour Issues
*WE are tired of working as casual workers for TransNamib. When are we going to be permanent workers? Some of us have been here for eight to 10 years but we do not have any benefits. Mr Festus Lameck we need feedback from you.

NBC
*‘SEIZE the Day!’ is not good for kids to watch. NBC must always always choose programmes which build and not destroy.

Service Please
*BANK Windhoek, why did you only give me N$12.50 for my British pounds on Friday, May 11 when on radio it was quoted at over N$13, and still you charge me N$60.88 commission.
– Unhappy client, Swakopmund

*NATIS Tal Street offìce was closed on Friday, May 11 at 14h30 without any notice on the door. If that is customer service, then I can offer better.

Responses to recent SMSes
*GAS vs Coal: Coal power is more economical for base load power stations (running all the time), whereas gas power stations are usually quite expensive and are mostly operated to deliver peak power for a short term (few hours per day), as they can very quickly react to changing power demand.

*TO the writer of the SMS telling the Health Minister to stop importing nurses (Thursday’s The Namibian): You must have a private medical aid. Many of our own nurses don’t have the interest of their patients at heart. They have a ‘don’t care’ attitude. Look at the incident of the mother and her newborn who died at Katutura hospital. In fact foreign nurses and doctors are very friendly and helpful. Minister, keep up the good work!

*IN response to the SMS about learners failing accounting in Grade 10, please, for your information, accounting only starts at junior level from Grade 8-12 and not at primary level Grade 1-7. Don’t blame primary teachers for the failure, thank you!
– Concerned teacher!
