SMses for Wednesday 06 June 2012

SMS Of The Day *MR Sackey Iyambo it’s great to know there are amazing people out there to help the needy just like you. God bless you!

Food for Thought
*OUR leaders today were also once called the youth and the leaders of tomorrow. And it was they who brought independence for us from colonial apartheid.
– TLB

Bouquets and Brickbats
n THANK you to The Namibian for again ‘telling it like it is’, you really are the people’s paper. A story about Lo-ammi in your paper about her plight and Mr Iyambo stepped up and reached out to help. It gives me such hope for our community when others reach out to help those in need. Now I wish our government would do the same, help those who really need it. Aluta Continua to the Namibian team

*WELL done City Police for arresting the people walking in the streets very late and so drunk. Please do it again.
– Moses Garoëb resident, C Matti.

*I WOULD like to commend the Windhoek City Police for their work as outlined in Monday’s front page story. It is critical that this work continues. Enforcement of the Liquor Act, curbing drinking and driving and public drunkenness etc is a first step to safer communities. Keep up the pressure and keep up the good work!

*SURELY President Joyce Banda has demonstrated the quality of a leader who understands, not only the needs of her country, but where the country needs to be. Driving Mercedes by executive members while the population is in abject poverty is a clear demonstration of leadership in isolation. African leaders should understand their situations and stop pretending to be in Hollywood!

*JOYCE Banda you are my hero! Will these leaders in Namibia ever follow your humble example and care for the poor? Namibia is going down the drain due to corruption!

*MR Arthur Okun has to be realistic about his Misery Index.

*NAMIBIA is not a miserable country please.  (Tuesday, page 11)

*THAT is what you get for manipulating unemployment figures to pretend that you are poorer than you are! Sixth place in the Misery Index! While we who live here know better!

*THE Namibian newspaper is anti-Namibian and very unpatriotic. If everything Namibian is not good, then why don’t you pack and go to a better place. You are driving away potential investors and tourists with your negative writing about our country.

*CHINESE trains, Chinese-built hospitals falling to pieces but the government still wants China to rip Namibians off more. When is this going to stop?

*CAN Moola Mobile please stop SMSing us unnecessarily each day saying who won and how much. We are not interested and the SMSes are becoming boring and frustrating.

Business as Usual
*WHAT is the purpose of local production of chicken (or anything else for that matter) if we cannot give a cheaper product to the consumer and have to raise levies on imported products. This only stifles free market competition and all consumers end up paying more for these products which pushes up inflation. This to create a handful of jobs. Our government is very shortsighted.

*I FEAR that protection of Namib Poultry is only going to benefit shareholders for seven years,  not consumers. The cake will be for a few with neither a significant dent to the number of unemployed citizens nor benefits to the fiscus. Been down the same road with milk.

City Fathers
*IT seems like the City of  Windhoek has no more land for the poor. When last did they allocate land to the low income earners to build houses? Even at the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) they don't consider the poor any more. All the open spaces are reserved for rich people to build their flats. Our leaders don’t care because they are part of them.

A Place to Call Home
*I HAVE been applying for a government flat here in Windhoek since 2010. When I go to the   Ministry of Works to ask they always give me different stories. Sometimes I am told my application forms have been lost. How were they lost? I want answers.

Running the Show
*THE person in charge of maintenance of government fixed property is a huge liability and should be removed.

Health Matters
*PLEASE I want to know how many New Start centres there are here in Windhoek. When we go to the Council of Churches of Namibia there is no one to help us.

Education
*HOW can the learners pass English if teachers who are teaching them did not specialise in the subject? Please Ministry of Education visit Oshana region, especially Onamutai circuit.

Law and Order

*GENERALl Ndeitunga why do you place untrained police officers at small towns like Omaruru, Karibib and Usakos?

*IT’S unsafe to walk on the sidewalks of Katutura because of all the open gates of houses with dogs. Please people your dogs are attacking us in the streets. Let your dog guard your yard and not the street.

In and From the Regions
*KARIBIB town council it’s just a few weeks after Ms Kandetu’s dismissal and the sewerage water is running down the main street again! Who is competent now?

*FROM colonial times and since independence, we are still drinking water from a well in Iitapa village. Until when? Government do something. We are only known during election time, but after elections they forget us.

*ILLEGAL immigrants a headache for Home Affairs, according to another daily newspaper. Why a headache? Some Namibian borders don’t have a fence to prevent those crossing illegally.

*REHOBOTH town council please water the dusty road and clean it to be safe.

*WHERE does one report this fake marriage certificate scam by people who have them just to be able to work in the country? I know of two in Swakopmund who are married to non-existent people. Please help.

Sporting
*WELL done Brave Warriors, Nigeria is tough in Africa when it comes to soccer. I wish you luck in the coming match against Kenya. Namibia Football Association bring the game to Sam Nujoma Stadium.

*WELL done to the mighty Brave Warriors, the coach and the technical team you made us proud against Nigeria. The big guns of African soccer’s days are numbered. Keep it up. At last there is light at the end of the tunnel

NBC
*ANNOUNCEMENTS by political parties over the NBC Otjiherero Service are treated as advertisements that need to be paid for. I often hear call in programmes on the NBC’s Oshiwambo Service where particularly Swapo meetings are announced as announcements and not treated as advertisements. Why is this so Mr Director General?

Service Please
*I APPLAUD the Khomasdal Spar for the renovations, however the service is not good. Cashiers don’t talk to the customers, there is no provision made for old people, the sickly and pregnant women. Queues go on forever and you must queue twice for groceries and then electricity! Common courtesy, consideration and service please Spar management!

Responses to recent SMSes
*TRADE unions, including teachers unions, negotiate for health benefits including medical aids. The Teachers Union of Namibia (TUN) has many young teachers who are and will be mothers and, as government employees, these are required to use government hospitals only. Now tell me where do you draw the line? Thank you very much TUN president for looking after your members on the schools premises and off the school premises.

*THE Polytech must take the issue of the assault of the female student by a security guard seriously.
