SMSes for Monday 11 June 2012

SMS Of The Day *CONGRATS to the Warriors, kudos to the supporters! I have to say that was the biggest gathering of Namibians I have ever seen. Next time take the game to Sam Nujoma Stadium and make the entrance free.

Food for Thought
*THE lack of active life skills programme implementation is the root cause of plenty of evils in Namibia.

Bouquets and Brickbats
*THANK you Tony Batista for reminding us that, while human beings seem to have an endless capacity for cruelty and violence, they also have enormous capacity for generosity, bravery and compassion. Viva!

*I SALUTE Mr Mburumba Kerina on ‘Inside Politics!’ Leaders like him are ageing too fast. Thanks Dr Kerina for the wisdom. You are a wise man and long may you live!

*THANK you very much Erongo Red Henties Bay for painting the little power stations. It really looks beautiful. Now it’s the municipality’s turn to fix our street signs in Omdel.

*INSTEAD of shooting at the messenger, the critics of Gwen Lister should comment and act on the issues she is raising.

* WHO is responsible? Why is the Supreme Court drowning in bushes?

*WHAT’S up with our NBC? They can’t even show us Namibia vs Kenya live.

*NBC what are you good at? You can’t even broadcast our national soccer team while it’s a World Cup qualifier game.

*SHAME on NBC for not showing us our national pride, the Brave Warriors. They spend the money on the Champions League and forget the national team. Is this the Proudly Namibian they preach?

*I WOULD like to know the whereabouts of Justine Balie’s four children’s father? I wonder what he is doing for a living. He must be traced and forced to buy blankets for his kids.

*MANY thanks and gratitude to Jacques Mushaandja for his article on Objectifying Women in Namibian Music. The connection between degrading lyrics and actual violence is spot on. Please more of such critical thinking and writing in even more prominent places in the newspaper. This would make artists and music consumers hopefully more aware of what they are singing and listening to.

Please Help
*LAST winter an elderly couple froze to death. Let us as a community avoid it ever happening again. We cannot depend on the government for compassion and understanding. It is way beyond their reasoning.

Law and Order
*THAT Ben Amadhila was attacked by crooks made my stomach turn. What happened to VIP protection? Shame on you Swapo-led government.

*RESPECT to an old’ brave fighter like tate Ben Amadhila fending off three young burglars! I reckon he did it out of concern for his grandchild. You are a hero by personality.  I am proud to be allowed to call you my friend.

Running the Show
*HOW can Namibia’s leaders (public and private sector) feel so good about themselves when so many in the country are doing so poorly? People, the fire burning in your spirit that gets you up every morning should be the fire of accountability, the fire of pride in doing something well (besides doing well at doing nothing and producing weak or no results except results that benefit self), the fire of joy in leaving something better than you found it. Whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability and to the benefit of (or at least not the detriment of) your fellow citizen. Imagine what a country we could be if everyone, especially government and private sector leaders, and the civil service did this....

*PERMANENT secretaries. How is it possible to appoint someone in a position he/she has no experience in? Isn’t it how corruption starts?

*OFFICE of the Prime Minister what happened to the programme “Prime Minitser’s Question Time’ on NBC national radio?
– Kandjimi, Walvis Bay

From the House
*I FULLY support the motion about alcohol abuse currently underway in Parliament. It is a long overdue.

City Fathers
*THE municipality of Windhoek is very expensive but it doesn’t provide recreational facilities where kids can entertain themselves.

Tax
*ACCORDING to an English weekly: “The company stated that current tax laws in Namibia require that all taxpayers with a car allowance submit a detailed logbook of business mileage.” Can this company please provide the specific provision(s) in the tax legislation that contain this requirement?’

In and From the Regions
*DEVELOPMENT is good for the country but does it really have to look so ugly? The planned Arandis shopping complex is a case in point. Can’t we come up with more beautiful designs than a concrete strip mall with barely any greenery or other aesthetic beauty and which mostly serves vehicles, rather than people? President Pohamba recently said Namibia should develop beautiful towns. When are we going to start those kinds of developments?

*NAMWATER Rundu regional office revisit your water purification process at Bagani village. The water is becoming a health hazard, especially children. It smells very bad and bitter even when used for cooking. Something is seriously wrong with the way you are using the chemicals to purify the water. You are either overdosing or the water is not purified at all. We pay for the water. Give us good service.

*GOVERNMENT please do something about the water outage in Gibeon. People are getting sick from drinking dirty water.

*POOR planning. Who planned for the Unam Oshakati campus to be constructed close to the stadium? Imagine, students are studying and writing examinations and there is an event at Oshakati stadium with a lot of noise and loud music. How can students concentrate?

*THE President can’t be everywhere at the same time, that’s why governors and councillors are there. The Targetted Intervention Programme for Employment and Economic Growth (Tipeeg) money, which was supposed to have provided jobs and developed our regions, has been sent back to Treasury. Let’s take them to task.

Education
*MR Zamuee having been a teacher for 35 years ending my career with a monthly salary of a bit more than N$8 000 in 2010, I ask you which money I should have saved to meet future needs comfortably as you mention so nicely? Unfortunately I cannot advise my younger colleagues, who began teaching a few years ago, to start saving early in their lives to have a better live after retirement because they need their salaries to live. There is nothing is left to save! May I ask: how much do you earn and how much do you save for a better life after retirement? Surely it is easy for you to give this advice isn’t it?

*NAMIBIA Students Financial Assistance Fund. Two of my former learners are studying medicine in Russia. To think that these two exceptional young ladies went to Russia depending on funds promised to them, funds which now are not transferred to them in good time to pay for living and studying far away from home breaks my heart! Their mother is a teacher unable to support them financially. Isn’t it a shame to just forget about them? Where are the funds which were planned to support them? Namibia where to are you heading?

Health
*CAN the Ministry of Health and Social Services compile statistics on deaths from cervical cancer among women and see how it is neglecting them. Why it does not run annual vaccination against it as they do with children?

*ABOUT 150 learners under the age of 15 at Engungumano PS in Engela constituency were left out by the immunisation campaign.

Labour Issues
*CAN the Polytechnic of Namibia HR Department please explain why qualified applicants are not shortlisted for most of the advertised posts?

Sporting
*CAN the Namibia Football Association referees coordinator tell us when they will pay us for April for handling the under-17 youth league? This is the second month we have been without payment.

Service Please
*NAMIBIA Airports Company it is absolutely unacceptable that you allow the restaurant at Hosea Kutako to close when there is no overseas flight. Are regional flights not important? This happened on June 6 at 18h30. Hosea Kutako is supposed to be an international airport but there was not even a cup of coffee to be had!

*WHY does Multichoice Namibia not activate our DStv channels as soon as we have paid them and sent the customer number and payment receipt number as a reference? But they cut it off exactly on the date of expiry. We want to watch as soon as we have paid, so value your customers!

*SO much for Home Affairs who are turning away people simply because their birth registration books are finished and they have to come back after a month. What if the baby becomes ill and cannot be registered on medical aid?

*PLEASE there is no service at the Okuryangava municipality office. There are four counters but only one or two with staff.

Lost and Found
*I FOUND an ID and various cards for Ms Edmud Velena (born 1988-02-15 ) at Oshikuku. Call 081-414-2764.

*I ANNA Pack lost my wallet in Oshakati containing my ID, driver’s licence and student card. If found please contact 081-628-6532.

Responses to recent SMSes
*KILLINGS in Namibia. For how long should people continue to cry about men killing women? The rate at which these killings are increasing is alarming and the question is what is the way forward?

*ARE permanent secretaries public servants or politicians? Why are they reshuffled like politicians?
