SMSes for Monday 04 June 2012

SMS Of The Day *THE story of an 18-year-old orphan Lo-Amin Goreses, who failed Grade 10 and couldn’t return to school due to the Education Act and makes a living from the Kupferberg dumpsite, needs the sincere sympathy of all Namibians. (The Namibian, Friday page 7.) The demolition of shacks and damage of property of the poor in Okahandja Park by the City of Windhoek was a legal barbaric act too. The reshuffling of 11 incompetent permanent secretaries was a national blunder and dismissal was the only option after many chances given to them. Why were the permanent secretaries given so many chances but not the poor of Okahandja Park and Lo-Amin Goreses? – Setho Uwanga

Food for Thought
*DEAR Dr Elijah Ngurare and Swapo Party Youth League: like in the case of a farm, a bank has the same structural problems after changing ownership as before. So, even if banks would be owned by Namibians, they would still want to make the highest possible profit. The issue is not who owns the bank or farm, but how and in whose interest is it run and who controls its operations. The challenge remains to control the hyenas - irrespective of their colour or nationality.
– Comrade H

Bouquets and Brickbats
*CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs Banda, President of Malawi, who got rid of the presidential jet and fleet of cars for the sake of her people. Let’s pray other African presidents will emulate that example.

*BANK of Namibia. I have just arrived in the country. The new notes are fantastic,  of international standard. Congrats.

*AWESOME article on Lady May! Some people dis her because they don’t get her brilliance. Thanks to Jean for ‘telling it like it is’.

*THANK you very much to the Majiedt family in Khomasdal, who went the extra mile to help someone on Saturday. Instead of just giving me directions to a church, they drove there so that I could follow them. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.
– Jean Sutherland

In and From the Regions
*IN Otjiwarongo town there are notices on almost every wall of a building. Are there no regulations?

*ROADS Authority, you know full well that the narrow bridges on the road south to Keetmanshoop are death traps, in particular due to the heavy duty traffic at night. Please widen them soonest.

*ONGWEDIVA town council please build a fire station where the fire brigade can stay while waiting for an emergency because you are very slow to reach an accident.

*I THINK it is time for the Kamanjab village council to tell us when they will start with the Build Together programme like other towns like Khorixas. We still have a bad standard of housing. Please help our people.

*CAPRIVI Governor please look into the town council and Home Affairs they need to be reshuffled.

City Fathers
*CITY of Windhoek please remove the bushes and trees along the highway between Cimbebasia and Kleine Kuppe. This has been a perfect hideout for robbers for many years now. They run to this area, especially at night. City Police will fully agree.

Law and Order
*KATUTURA police station give suspects the prison’s blankets, this is winter time, or tell the public to bring blankets for their kids. They are not prisoners yet but suspects.

*BAIL can’t be paid at Katutura police station after 17h00. You are just told the person concerned has gone home and wait for tomorrow. If it is the weekend, wait for Monday.
Education

*MINISTRY of Education, the policy of withholding learners’ report cards due to outstanding  school development funds exists in all government schools. Make a surprise visit to any  school and ask learners if they all received their report cards last term. You will be surprised. Learners at CJ Brandt have nor received their report cards. The policy which says no learner should be denied a report card due to non-payment of school development fund is just  window dressing. If it does exist, then why are government schools are practising it. We need action on this matter.

Health Matters
*OSHAKATI hospital’s casualty was too full on Saturday. Dr Kamwi give us more doctors please. One doctor was failing to cope with number of sick people. Should the poor always queue?
– Concerned patient

*DR KAMWI, please come and investigate the situation at Etambo Clinic, Omusati Region, where nurses leave the clinic during work days and go to do their own things leaving only the cleaner at the clinic. You go to the clinic feeling sick and stay there waiting for them, but nobody comes to assist and you go back home without any help. Please we need help.

*MINISTER Richard Kamwi, the public’s outrage seems to fall on deaf ears regarding our health system that you, yes you, are in charge of. We are not interested in your excuses but want to see change with our tax money allocated to your department. Fix up the hospitals, the nurses’ homes, build more clinics, employ qualified doctors and nurses, but stop blaming every one but yourself. Don’t hope this uproar will pass, it won’t, as Namibians we have had enough of the service provided by your department and we won’t give up until we see a change soon.
– Fed-up doctor

Labour Issues
*MINISTRY of Labour. We want the contract hire system eliminated! We work hard and yet we do not reap the fruits. This system does nothing but exploit Namibian workers!

Sporting
*PLEASE can the Brave Warriors coach learn from our neighbours and recall at least two or three old players. The likes of Benjamin, Tjikuzu and the Risser brothers can still add value to the team and guide the young boys. They lack self-esteem.
– Soccer lover

NBC
*DR Audrin Mathe it is within your rights to belong to any political party you choose: but it leaves a bad taste that you are at NBC, as head of news, and yet you are a party functionary. Do your academic credentials not teach about being impartial? That institution is funded by the taxpayer. Its behaviour should be national as opposed to Swapo. Board members address this issue.

*THE religion programme is too short, extend it please. It should be an hour. There are many gospel songs left not played.

Service Please

*NORED Ondangwa, your service is very slow. We don’t apply for electricity to fill your offices with our documents, we need it! It takes a whole month for you to come and measure. Do you call that service?

*HOME Affairs headquarters please send the files for our children who were born from 1992 onwards. They want to get full birth certificates, but every time they go to the Ondangwa office they are told the files are not yet there. It has been three years now. We cannot go to Windhoek. What are the regional offices for?
