SMSes for Friday 8 June 2012

SMSes Of The Day

HER death is the straw that broke the camel’s back. I wept as a mother. I wept as a daughter. I cried for our mothers for to bury a daughter, who is just beginning to live, at the hand of a man who claims to love her is so unnatural.

IT’S with great sadness I hear of the death of a fellow student. It hurts a lot. Why, why, why should one do this? Where is Namibia heading? Is this a country based on violence? I can’t imagine this, please Namibians let’s find a possible solution to this.

Food for Thought

FELLOW Namibians please let us help the needy. If you have an extra bed or blankets please go to the informal settlements and give to those people. There are so many innocent children suffering not only of hunger but of cold.

Bouquets and Brickbats

PRIME MINISTER on ‘1on1' you showed that you are a gentle old man with brilliant ideas for our country, I wish I could reverse your age!

I SO much agreed with views of the Prime Minister on ‘1on1' on the direction our country should take. He seems to be promising realisation of these dreams if elected President. How much influence can the President have that the Prime Minister cannot when overseeing administrative government activities?

WELL done ‘Bottom Line’ for highlighting the work permit fiasco for skilled people wanting to come to Namibia. The government needs to learn that they come here to teach, not to steal!

TEN points to Joyce Banda, Malawi’s new president. Many presidents, including our own, can take a page from her book. I would vote for someone like her.

THANKS Deputy Prime Minister Marco Hausiku for visiting the minority and/or forgotten ovaZemba peoples. Your visit means a lot to us despite that some of your comrades denied our presence just after independence, as if we did not fight for this country. Because of this there is no more war, but food on the table.

ROADS Authority/ Road Contractor Company our once good gravel roads are now in a shocking state. Please do something.

The Killings Must Stop

HOW could you kill such a young girl? You took away a friend of mine, a very well mannered child. Lord, please help the men of Namibia. Tuwilika rest in peace.

AS much as I love to read your paper, it is soon to contact a family who grieving after such a horrific murder. We have feelings too.

CAN The Namibian newspaper run an insert containing pictures/names of women killed by their lovers in the past five years? We want the nation to see how serious passion killing is and maybe --the government, churches and other institutions can think of other actions! We are sick and tired!
– Liz

FELLOW countrymen we must create a healthy relationship with our loved ones. Stop misusing women. We must be protectors.
– Luckie Ebas

NAMIBIAN men before you decide on killing a woman (especially lovers or ex-lovers) think at least about the mothers who gave birth to these ladies, because the sadness of a mother can never be compared with anything on this earth. Stop killing young women please men.
– Lovisa

Running the Show

WE request Minister Jerry Ekandjo to have regional councillors’ posters printed for educational purposes. We scholars need to know our regional leaders.

MR President please do something to increase an enrolled nurse's salary. It’s no wonder nurses are always stressed. How does one survive on N$5 000 a month and still pay N$3 000 in rent?

JUST read on News 24 of nine orphaned baby elephants that were sent to Mexico from Namibia because the mothers were shot dead. I haven’t seen, heard or read anything about this in our local media. Why? Who shot dead their mothers? Poachers, trophy hunters or our government, can the minister please shed some light on this!

Politics

MS Ithana and Mr Geingob should face off in public to outline their presidential aspirations. A public debate with Dr Gurirab and Hidipo Hamutenya as facilitators. That will show real voters their caliber?

In and From the Regions

THE traditional leaders, chiefs and royal houses should be proactive and look at leadership succession strategies. There is so much conflict and unnecessary delay in the event of the death of a leader. They don’t think ahead and resort to the media and government for help, pretending to be victims, and subsequently causing confusion and division in the community. Rather consult the respective government line ministry to help you work at your succession plans in advance and share this with the people you are leading.

NO water, electricity to be cut off soon, no infrastructure development to attract prospective investors, no jobs! Can someone please come to the rescue of Gibeon Village Council! I am sure we forgot about our promises to the nation. Or is the timing not yet right?

WHAT about a trade fair in Omaheke, for example, the Gobabis Trade Fair?

WE want tertiary and vocational institutions/centres/campuses in Omaheke region as well, like other regions.

HOW come water in the Donkerhoek location in Rundu is always closed. Why? Don’t we pay tax? Now we also have the power going off every day. We feel like we live in a village.

RURAL Water Supply in Khorixas needs leaders. We are tired of being sent around. Let the regional head please talk to his people. Kunene is dry, our cattle don’t have water.

WE Ongwediva residents are tired of the noise from of Omandjukundjuku at bedtime. They must remember they are next to houses.

Taxi Talk

I TRAVEL by taxi from Ondangwa to Hifikepunye Pohamba campus every day and I pay N$34 per day which is N$17 doubled. What is the authorised price between Ondangwa and HP campus?

Education

COLD water. Ekulo Senior Secondary School this is the 5th year I observe the hostel still has no hot water in the hostel. And you refuse to allow them to use kettles. Why are you putting our kids health at risk? Who is to be blamed?

UNAM be careful when students write exams. Many people are writing on behalf of those supposed to write the exam! Check their IDs as well as physical appearance.

UNAM management why is the examination office telephone at main campus not answered? I have been calling @ 061-2063906 for days from far away but to no avail. Please improve or else quit!

KATUTURA hospital management stop demoralising, stressing and frustating the poor underpaid nurses with your tactics by delaying overtime payments ! Sick and tired nurse

PLEASE Minister Kamwi come and see the incinerator and check on the incidents. Machines are burning due to a lack of understanding within the sections. Malfunctions were reported but to no avail. And there is also a lack of equipment on site.

Labour Issues

MINISTRY of Home Affairs why can’t Zimbabweans get work or residence permits while for Chinese and Pakistan citizens it’s easy why? Is it financial benefits?

I RECENTLY applied to one bank and they told me that because I’m listed on ITC they cannot appoint me. Apparently that is the rule for all banks and some companies. I don’t understand, it’s not as if I committed a crime. I lost my job through retrenchment. I just want to have a job to pay off my debts.

NATIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION please come out clearly and tell us census enumerators of 2011 that have worked extra days who of us will be paid, when we will be paid and how much. We have been waiting for so long now...

ACC Alert

Law and Order

DOES anyone else find it highly offensive to have their bags searched like you’re a common thief after purchasing goods from certain establishments? To the establishments that still do this: please stop. Find other ways to prevent stock loss and mitigate against theft ... otherwise you may find your customers moving to places where they’re treated the way a paying customer should be.

CITY Police please take action! If we park on a yellow or red line we get fined. It appears that if we park on the pavement it is fine. And it’s getting worse and worse.

Suggestions Box

THE City of Windhoek must entice the men on the side of the streets to start cutting the reeds in the riverbeds and these reeds can be sold by the unemployed thereby creating an income for them.

Responses to recent SMSes

THE Namibian paper is not anti-Namibian and is more patriotic than those few elites who think about themselves only, while the majority of population suffer in absolute poverty.

I WANT to express my sadness about Omuthiya hospital. I was so happy when they were busy building it. Now the hospital is not finished. Health Minister Richard Kamwi please tell us what the problem is because it is dirty and broken. Please government or Oshikoto governor do something.

THE Namibian newspaper can easily be accused of being unpatriotic simply because it reports on every rotten thing in this country without fear or favour. I find it more patriotic and loyal to the Namibian nation than any other.

THE Namibian is not anti-Namibia at all. It is in fact telling us what is actually happening unless you the author of the SMS 6 June 2012 are blind or blindly following what the leaders are feeding us. Even the blind can see how this country is going down the drain.

WOMEN also urinate in public. Rather tell everyone to stop. City of Windhoek more public toilets please.
