SMSes for Wednesday 18 July 2012

SMS Of The Day *OH my goodness! Another Mercedes-Benz to glorify someone in a town that can’t afford it. What planet are they living on that they think they can justify this kind of extravagance? The achievements of a mayor will be judged on how he or she improved living conditions for a town or developed its infrastructure or facilities such as old-age homes, libraries and sports fields – not on the car they were driven around in. These people need to get over their mistaken ideas about their own importance and start seeing to the needs of their residents first. When will we ever learn not to allow this kind of misappropriation of public money? Sheetekela should be fired.

Food for Thought
*WHO decides for the country what date order should be used? Some companies use the date-month-year order whereas others are using the month-date-order on their official documents such as invoices, receipts etc; and this is very confusing. I know countries like the UK use strictly month-date-year order and all their computer systems are set as such. Can someone please perhaps from government guide us?

Bouquets and Brickbats
*GOOD for you Emily Hamunyela! You are an example to young and old!

*BRAVO Minister !Naruseb. You made a lot of sense at Hoachanas when you spoke about leasing of resettlement land. That’s the only route to take to help the resettled farmers.

*PLEASE fellow citizens of Namibia don’t dump babies. Bring them to Baby Haven in Grysblok, Katutura. They will gladly assist and it’s highly confidential. Please call 081-207-6963.

*THE policy of reconciliation is a white elephant. There are still some racists who don’t want to take part in this process. This is tantamount to treason. The solution here is to deport these unpatriotic racists.

Law and Order
*HANG the person that killed a jogger and did not stop at the scene.

*TO the driver who killed an innocent man in Ludwigsdorf on Monday: may God punish you threefold for your reckless and selfish behaviour!

Business as Usual
*WE are all watching the news about corruption in banks, but it is rampant in insurance and investment businesses as well. The policy of big companies rewarding investment advisors and brokers with commissions and luxury holidays, will always result in the consumer being sold the investment or insurance package that suits the broker best, rather than the best one for his purpose and his pocket. These corrupt practices should be scrutinised closely by the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (Namfisa).

Old Soldiers
*KATHY Imalwa must just admit that the registration of war veterans was badly planned. If you knew from beginning that you would be dealing with different groups of veterans and interviews are involved, you should have anticipated the time needed for an older individual to tell his/her story. So you should not have called all groups of veterans in one day. Look at all logistics to avoid wasting our meekulus and tatekulus time and energy.

Education
*MINISTER Iyambo we are struggling here at Ruacana. I cannot pay the school fees at the school but I have to deposit into the school bank account. There is no bank at Ruacana. We have to travel to Outapi to deposit. What is wrong with Good Hope Primary School ?

*DIRECTOR of Education Karas Region as a teacher of JA Nel SSS in Keetmanshoop I invite you to make an urgent invite to visit our school. After the end of year results will be too late. I use this only means of reaching you because the channels are blocked so sending someone else will not help. Both of us owe this much to these kids entrusted to us.

Health Matters
*PLEASE staff working in the kitchen at Vaalgras School don’t steal the kids’ food. Government must do something about this.
Labour Issues

*AS a member of the Namibia Defence Force Army until when are we buying items like boots? Since I joined in 2008 I only get a pair of uniforms without boots. Otherwise the NDF must provide soldiers with uniform allowances.

*MINISTRY of Education please respond. When are we going to get our back pay and increment? According to rumours around schools it was June or July! Now which month?

* WHAT does Namfisa have to say about cash loan employee salaries? Cash loan owners are paying N$1 000 to their workers with no tax and no social security deductions! We are suffering!

*I WOULD like to clarify something that was in Friday’s paper about Jet employees. What the person told you about our overtime is not correct. We are over 30 workers in that shop and only one person is unhappy, this is just an personal issue. We are paid very well at the end.

Service Please
*STANDARD Bank Keetmanshoop! What about a bank statement now and again? You are really not doing your job.

*STANDARD Bank home loans division your service is poor. You can’t even answer a call. I’m truly disappointed.

Sharing
*I HAVE a few pairs of shoes that are too small for my five-year-old daughter. Can someone tell me where I can find a little girl who really needs them please?

Please Help
*I WOULD like to know how and where old South African soldiers (OSASN) can obtain information about obtaining forms, where these should be submitted or any contact details of the people handling the process.

Responses to recent SMSes
*VIVA to Dr Ben Mulongeni for his mature debate on the ‘struggle kids’ and illegal shebeen topics respectively. Namibian leader owe the nation answers on the current situation in the country.

*I AM going to disagree with some readers who say the misuse of alcohol is a result or consequence of hopelessness and unemployment. I have a work mate working for government with all benefits, but that person works only one and a half days per week because the rest of the time he is recovering from alcohol. What a shame and at the end of the month the person gets his full salary.

*I AM a born Namibian and get no assistance from the government in terms of employment and financial aid, so what gives the ‘struggle kids’ the right to demand these from a country in which they weren’t even born in?

*IT is best for the ‘struggle kids’ to be sent back to school and the government must pay for them, instead of them asking for jobs without experience. You must ask them about their last grade and send then back there because they are not serious.

*I STRONGLY agree with David’s assertion (SMS Monday, July 16) regarding some job adverts demanding fluency in both English and Afrikaans. It would be very unfair if the government vacancies were to require fluency in any of the country’s indigenous languages since this will effectively exclude many from the public service. It is common knowledge that the majority of northerners and north easterners don’t speak Afrikaans with 98 per cent of Caprivians unable to command the language. As stated by David, it’s not that we are against Afrikaans whatsoever, the choice of English as a language of business and medium of instruction at Independence was meant to unite all Namibians irrespective of race or tribe.
