SMS Of The Day *WINDHOEK especially has the highest rents and selling costs when it comes to homes. You can buy a bigger and better property in a good area cheaper in Cape Town. My kids will never be able to own a home . Government must do something about this.

*IT is high time we, as Namibians, debate the thorny issue of local private doctors issuing ‘fake’ sick leave forms to healthy clients. We are concentrating too much on foreign doctors, pharmacists, dental therapists and nurses. The economy cannot improve with rampant absenteeism.

*CONGRATULATIONS to Madam Zuma for the chairpersonship of the African Union.
*CONGRATULATIONS to the government for controlling noise from shebeens in Windhoek. It is the first time my family and I had a quiet and peaceful weekend in my own house. Namibia is for everyone, not only for shebeen owners who don’t respect other people’s rights. Viva Namibia for making us safe and proud of our country.
*CAN The Namibian please do an article on Stephen Francis, the guy who’s behind the Madam n Eve cartoon? I guess his partner Rico does the drawings or what? Please inform us. These guys brighten our Fridays (even the 13ths!) like a sun ray on a cold day.
*IN response to Gwen Lister’s ‘Political Perspective’ for July 13. In Africa we don’t call it pay back, it’s called thanksgiving. Just a reminder to you when the Cubans sent their soldiers to come and assist us in the liberation struggle they never obtained consent or the approval of every taxpayer. Their sons and daughter died for Namibia. You are instead worried, without scientific proof or basis, that the animals may not make it.
*GWEN Lister seems to have forgotten that countries who assisted us during the liberation struggle did that with their taxpayers’ money too.
*IMMIGRATION officers at Buitepos impound goods worth N$100 000. ‘The state could have lost N$170 000 in duties and taxes’. With such exorbitant duties and taxes one would be tempted to smuggle goods. Tax should be reasonable.
n SEAL Alert SA’s appeal is full of emotion and empty of facts. If they are that convinced of the illegality of the cull then take matters to court. But they know they don’t have anything to stand on except bleeding heart rhetoric.
Politics
*I SALUTE opposition parties for their bold and brave decision. Many Namibians who want change are behind you. Stay put.
*IT is totally pathetic for a former liberation movement, now the government, to embrace the very laws they were fighting against, to suppress a peaceful demonstration led by a democratic party in an independent country. Shame on you government.
Law and Order
*WE really appreciate the presence of traffic officers on the road, but not when they hide in the bush and jump into the road without reflective gear putting their lives in danger. The officer who was between Otavi and Otjiwarongo around noon on Sunday was a danger to himself, no reflective gear. Please we still need you so that you can continue keeping our roads safe.
*A QUESTION to the station commander of the Rehoboth police station. Is the Minister of Safety aware that we, the community of Rehoboth, only have one old Toyota bakkie to fight crime in a place this big? I must also give them credit for a job well done with the one car they have in this cold winter. Keep it up
Old Soldiers
*THE Ministry of War Veterans must stop with their scam projects and give us our N$200 000 in cash. Whatever we do with the money isn’t their problem as they are not the ones who run our day to day lives. Enough is enough!
NBC
*WELL done Dr Mulongeni on Sunday night’s ‘Talk of the Nation’. Even a minister or councillor receiving a big salary or allowance is still running a shebeen together with job seekers!
*VIVA Mr Mulongeni for a positive response on the issue of illegal shebeens. A true story.
*DR Mulongeni we thank you very much. You are a voice for poor Namibians.
Education
*WITH a great joy, we would like to warmly welcome Minister of Education Dr Iyambo after recovering from the long illness that kept us worried. I wish you lots of strength and wisdom to execute all your tasks and set an example to the nation.
*MINISTRY of Education please help. We are continually told the no one knows when the Okakarara Vocational Training Centre is setting the date to start classes. We want to start, we are tired of waiting.
*WHY on on earth does the Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology require matriculation for young people who want to train for a trade? The absence of opportunities for those who are not of an academic learning is already a problem in Namibia. I bet there are any number of our best artisans who left school before matriculation to go into the trades. Get real NIMT.
Health Matters
*THE City of Windhoek and government please do something to stop people carrying food from dumpsite and coming to sell it in the community!
Service Please
*WE, as a business, have to use MTC for our Internet as we sometimes work outside telephone connection range. We have an uncapped account and MTC replaced our 3G with 4G. We could not install it as it deletes our Telecom Internet Stick Software. First they offered to send somebody to help us install but after several days of non-appearance, they want us to come to them with all our computers.
*GROOTFONTEIN Pupkewitz Megabuild please have more tellers. Buying from your shop is torture after a four-hour wait.
Sporting
*I WOULDN’T mind paying up to a $1 000 just to watch Harry Simon vs Wilbeforce Shihepo. Let us see who has the loudest mouth after that fight.

Responses to recent SMSes
*IT seems to be a widely accepted notion that the so-called ’struggle kids’ are not making sufficient own efforts to deserve support from society. However, they represent only the tip of the iceberg. This society has failed to produce viable answers for the growing poverty and alienation. If we don’t quickly change the way we distribute material wealth, and access to a safe and fulfilling life, we will have many such groups - each with a different set of arguments, but all with one common message: ‘Society has excluded us, we have no way of becoming part of mainstream economy - so we demand to be given hand-outs!’
*COMMISSIONER Shilongo leave the shebeens and focus on the corruption in this country. Sheebens put bread on our tables.
*I CAN’T understand why people selling alcohol are so selfish! Claiming it’s their only source of income to take care of their kids school fees and put bread on table. How absurd? What about other kids bread and school fees which they take out their mouths by selling alcohol to their parents? Let the bottle stores be the only outlets to sell alcohol, not even the supermarkets and service stations should be allowed please.
*MISUSE (drinking with the purpose to get drunk) of alcohol and drugs is a direct consequence of hopelessness and unemployment. Create jobs for people and they will have something to get up for in the morning. Should we have the right policies in place, they would also be able to use their salary for goods and services that other Namibians can provide, thus creating more jobs, less hopelessness, less abuse of alcohol and drugs.
*HOW can a chief chase away landless citizens of this country and give land to those who have commercial land already? Tell us were we are heading to Namibia.
