SMSes for Thursday 19 July 2012

SMS Of The Day *I WAS at my village at Sangwali last week. There are so many elephants that they even come to where people stay. Why not donate them to Erindi? There is no need to import them from South Africa. Our people hardly harvest anything from their crop fields due to marauding elephants. This country has too many elephants, especially in Caprivi Region.

Food for Thought
*OUR Inland Revenue service must please go to South Africa and see how they are handling tax returns of individuals. You submit your return to an official who immediately processes it with you there and then within 15 minutes. Here they have blocked the system for 2012 because they still processing returns of two years ago. Also in South Africa one can file your returns via the internet. This is something that we should think about.

*NAMIBIA does not have a food security net in place. The world is very unpredictable. South Africa won’t be able to supply us forever. We have enough fertile land, we need to look into desert farming like Israel.

Bouquets and Brickbats
*I WOULD like to say think you to Simon from the City Police who assisted in recovering my iPad on Tuesday within a few hours of it getting stolen.
– Mufaro

Happy Birthday Madiba
*HAPPY Birthday Mr Nelson Mandela. You are the best leader any African country has ever had! May other leaders realise that your example is the correct way. May God bless you.

*TO a great man, a father of all nations, Madiba may God bless you on your 94th birthday. From the LGBTI community from Namibia. We love you.

Running the Show
*THE Ministry of Agriculture Namibia is experiencing a chronic shortage of yellow maize meal as well as lucerne countrywide! Is the Green Scheme able to address this situation?A few weeks ago we were made to understand that some silos in the North are full to the brim? Full of mahangu or what ?

A Question of Land
*IF the President and other influential people were given land, why can’t the people of Makanga village and others in the Caprivi Region who applied for small farms on their land also get approval? Is it because there are no influential people on the list? The Minister of Lands must explain why these applications are collecting dust in his offices.

Law and Order
*I WOULD like to advise and appeal to the Oshikango/Santa Clara border post to set up a committee that meets at least twice a month to discuss problems that arise daily.

*PLEASE City Police discipline the Rehoboth minibus taxis who ignore the taxi restriction signs in Windhoek’s Independence Avenue. They are guilty of reckless driving and dropping off passengers while risking the safety of other drivers and even pedestrians. City Police will have much success by guarding the entrance to Independence Avenue once in a while!

Old Soldiers
*IS the Ministry of War Veterans 100 per cent certain that all those who received the N$50 000 grant rendered selfless bravery and distinguished service during the liberation struggle? The numbers are swelling and many so-called war vets’ demands are escalating. It seems to me that every fifth person in Namibia was a freedom fighter. I was always under the impression that the struggle for independence was a cause for self-sacrifice but not any more.

Education
*DIRECTOR of Education at Otjiwarongo do your job and call the principal of Otjiwarongo High School to order. On Tuesday she sent home more than 100 children home for not paying school fees!

*DR A Iyambo intervene please at Hans Daniel Namuhuya Secondary School at Oniipa. Students of poor families are being sent home just because their parents cannot afford to pay the school development funds, which I think is wrong!

Health Matters
*I APPLAUD Minister Kamwi for reshuffling management but I urge him to do from directors to the principal medical officers. Some of these professionals have been too long in their positions but without proper inputs (examples can be provided).

*THE Ministry of Health needs a minister and permanent secretary you are doctors. No amount of reshuffling of directors will help.

*HOW many points are the Ministry of Health and Social Services using when recruiting nurses? Why are they recruiting some with 20 points in six subjects in Grade 12 and leaving others out?

Labour Issues
*IT is four months since our retrenchment from Namibia Airports Company and nobody can tell us when we will receive our pensions. Somebody please help!

*WHY are there negotiations for government salary increases of 6 per cent? Should these negotiations not focus on a 6 per cent increase in government productivity?

*NAVACHAB Gold Mine managing director don’t forget temporary workers who are being paid poor salaries without benefits!

In and From the Regions
*YES let’s develop our country. Take some of the ministries out of Windhoek to other towns. This might also help with over population around Windhoek city. Please.

*PLEASE Roads Contractor Company the D2612 between Twyfelfontein and Uis is really nightmarish. Please do something.

*IT is now 22 years after Independence and we still have a lot of gravel main roads in the northern part of the country. Please we want changes, for example, the roads between Oshakati and Omungwelume and Engela and Ongenga.

*RUNDU Town Council a lot of street lights in Katutura have not been working for a long time now yet we pay every month.

Sporting
*THE South African media know details about player signings in the Premier Soccer League where millions are involved. Why are things being kept so secret in Namibian football where they pay players peanuts?

Service Please
*CLICKS Wernhil had only two cashiers at lunchtime and a long queue!

*SHOCKED that FNB charges N$70 to cancel a debit order! It won’t be long before they charge customers for the air they breathe in their branches.

*I AM dissatisfied with the services and responses from a particular Standard Bank consultant. Where can I forward my complaints?

Responses to recent SMSes
*DATE order. You are so wrong. It is the mixed-up Americans who use month-day-year and the UK uses day-month-year.

*FOR a big database the most useful date order is YYYYMMDD for sorting documents. Imagine invoices listed January 2nd 2009 2010 2011 then January 3rd 2009 2012. Now on a 10-page printout find out which is the oldest or youngest.

*ALMOST every animal is sacrificed to meet human needs, be it goat, sheep, cow, crayfish, antelope just like seals. The methods of killing differ, some are shot while grazing peacefully some killed en masse by machines slicing their throats, others suffocate when removed from water! What is the problem with Seal Alert SA. I am sure they all eat meat and seafood!

*I WOULD be grateful if I worked for a company that takes me to work and back home for free, pays my kids’ full private school fees and pays 100 per cent medical aid for me and my dependents. Or why are Navachab Gold Mine employees really on strike?

*RESPONSE on old South African soldiers obtaining information about registration as veterans. Contact 081-278-2926 Namibia War Veterans trust so that you cand register before July 31 deadline.
