Food for Thought
*WHY can’t the Anti-Corruption Commission introduce a whistle-blower’s fund where people get a reward for reporting corrupt activities? Let’s say 10 per cent of what is recovered. Maybe we would make an effort to report what we see
Bouquets and Brickbats
*CONGRATULATIONS Hengari on your new job in South Africa as the head of the South African Foreign Policy and African Drivers Programme. Shame on us Namibians for allowing our own to be appreciated outside our borders, because we would rather focus on tribal appointments instead of who can do the work! What Namibia is throwing away other countries are appreciating!
*HENGARI is being labelled as anti-Owambo! Namibians we must stop this stupidity of labelling people who don’t agree with us. It is crystal clear that someone is trying to mess up Hengari’s name! It has become a norm in Namibia if you criticise something, then you are labelled! This time around they want Hengari to be labelled as being anti-Owambo, the same way Kazenambo was labelled. Not everything is about tribes!
Food of life
*WOERMANN Brock in Swakopmund, thank you for selling your freshly baked products on the next day at half price. Thanks that you think of us the poor the pensioners. May God bless you.
*I READ that the new N$10 and N$20 notes are cracking and we the public are requested not to fold these notes. I am sorry, but all my life I have not used a wallet with the understanding if I lose the wallet all my money is lost. Thus I will continue to fold banknotes carried in my pocket as I have done travelling in other countries without hearing of similar requests.
*I FAIL to understand the pride with which African beauties, attempting to win beauty pageants, parade lifeless hair in public. Thinking back of our own Face of Africa winner of yesteryear, I take offence at this artificially enhanced beauty. It smacks of a blatant inferiority complex. They should be disqualified from taking part in Miss Namibia.
*MY goodness! Pornography in The Namibian. This is not good at all. And to think you recently ran a story on government employees watching porn at work!
Running the Show
*THE Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration must follow the example of the Health Minister and start with your directors and control officers. If they’re not doing their job, rotate them or fire them if they can’t produce results.
ACC Alert
*ANTI-Corruption Commission and Auditor General please do something about the N$1.9 million of veterans’ money taken from the Oshakati office. That was not the only money lost through corruption. You need to do some investigations. Those who have relatives working there have received projects while they do not even qualify, while real soldiers are tired of waiting their money. Namibians let’s be honest.
Law and Order
*THERE has been an increase in house break-ins confirmed by the police. However, no mention as to how they will deal with it or is this up to the home owners? You can only put so many security measures in place. People don’t feel safe in their own houses. Police don’t even bother to take fingerprints. No criminal database. What rights do I have to protect my family and property from these criminals? No investigating is taking place to catch criminals or recover property.
In and From the Regions
*DROUGHT relief for Kunene. I hope and pray that the same can be done in the south.
Education
*MOSES Aihalu Primary School in Outapi circuit, Omusati Region is the most neglected government school. Two classes constructed by government and seven sheds by parents. Not a single toilet. If in doubt come and see.
Health Matters
*GOOD work Minister and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Services for the reshuffling of regional directors. Can you please do the same at the head office as well. We are living and working under stress here.
*DR Richard Kwamwi did you know that we don’t have a gynaecologist at Otjiwarongo State Hospital? Have you ever visited that hospital? We women are suffering with sexually transmitted infections.
*HEALTH Minister Dr Richard Kamwi please visit Onyaanya health centre in Oshikoto Region. It is unhygienic. Some toilets don’t flush and the geyser is out of order. The hospital is old, paint is peeling off the walls and the ceiling has fallen out. Service to patients though is 100 per cent.
Labour Issues
*DO the strikers at Navachab realise that because of the daily production loss, due to each days strike, at the end there will be no option for them but to settle for much less increase than what was originally offered by the mine? The percentage has already decreased. Plus this is a no-work-no-pay strike, at the end it’s pain and not much gain for the strikers!
*WHY are there no promotions for nurses like with Police and Defence? Nurses who have worked for more then 20 years as heads of clinics but remain at SP2 until the end.
NBC
*CAN NBC please give us live or delayed coverage of the upcoming Olympics Games? Please seek sponsors beforehand.
Please Help
*IF you receive mail in your mailbox which does not belong to you, please do not throw it away. Write ‘unknown’ on the envelope and give it back to Nampost so they can return to the sender. Doing so will help you and me. Sometimes Nampost sorters make a mistake and put wrong mail in wrong boxes but sometimes the sender also makes a mistake by writing down the wrong address. Let’s practise ubuntu. Thank you.
*I NEED help please. I am writing an Oshiwambo novel but I don’t know what to do! Where to publish, who to get to make corrections in the language. Anyone who can help please call 081-256-6643.

Service Please
*NAMLIFE you are putting names in the newspaper for people to contact your office. When they come you tell them to bring the newspaper. Why can’t you have it at your office? Some people are old. Improve your service especially at Oshakati branch, keep the newspaper or the list with you.
*ON July 20, I called Air Namibia head office switchboard 2996301 to find out what their office address is. To my amazement the person (male) who answered the phone didn’t know and wanted to transfer the call to someone else. How come they don’t know their office address? Seriously! After I told him I don’t want to be transferred around I just need their office address and said ‘How come you don’t know?’ he hung up. Air Namibia please train your staff better! Customer service has to be your number one priority.
Responses to recent SMSes
*NAMIBIA will never be self-sustaining in food production because Namibians believe the world owes them as they are previously disadvantaged.
From the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement
*DEAR Editor, in response to your SMS on the land question. All applications on small-scale commercial farms in the project area of Sibbinda and Makanga in Caprivi Region were received by the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement. However, the project in question has been put on hold due to the following challenges - illegal occupation of the project area by some members of the community; overlap of the conservancy and the community forest; selection criteria which have not yet been finalised. Given these complex and difficult situations, the way forward is to redefine the project area. It is also very unfortunate that some individuals have decided to take the law into their own hands and in the process denying the much-needed development in the area. During the project design all traditional authorities who have a stake in the area were duly consulted for their consent and all of them were in the affirmative. So it is the individuals in those communities who spoiled the much- needed investment in the area by illegally occupying the area in question. As per our records eight boreholes have already been drilled in the areas of Makanga, Masida and Malengalenga in order to start the project. I hope the author will find this information in order.

*HOW many poor people were offered land by the chief of Ukwangali? Only rich people. Where are we heading?
*CLOSE all shebeens in residential areas countrywide. Formulate a national strategy on how to convert all shebeens into formidable businesses and implement, monitor and evaluate.
