SMSes for Friday 20 July 2012

SMS Of The Day *HOW transparent are school funds in Namibia? Does the management of the school prepare a budget, implement it and have the result audited? How can parents make sure the money is used for extraordinary improvements at the school and not for regular expenses like copy paper, which should come from the Ministry?

Food for Thought
*IT’S about time that the Government of Namibia reviews and or abolishes the open market system currently in place. This system is the root of the sky rocketing prices because those with the money continue to exploit the system. We may be independent today, but are not financially independent. This nation means nothing to the majority because the minority still rules behind the scenes, yet the government doesn’t see that!

*WHAT is our Government’s position on so-called pastors who are roaming around our beloved country confusing our people with their empty promises of cures, or being the Messiah, when it comes to human and financial challenges?

Bouquets and Brickbats
*MISS Namibia board please re-evalute the criteria for the Miss Namibia finalists. As beautiful as they, do they have the intellect required to represent our country internationally? All I see are young girls who are self-absorbed and still need to mature. I would suggest raising the maximum age limit (25 at least) and not choose girls based on their looks and social status! Pick women who have goals and ambitions and want to make a difference in Namibia. Women who know the concept of being ambassadors for our country. Most of these participants just do it to be seen. Please ladies  make me have hope for Miss Namibia again.
– OS.

*NAMIBIA! Nelson Mandela’s birthday was an International Day of Goodwill. What was your 67 minutes service and gift especially towards the poor and disadvantaged in the community?

*IS there favouritism concerning burials at the Roman Catholic Church?  I am a baptised, married church member. I fail to understand how the burial leaders and deacons of St Peter Claver parish in Okahandja decide who should be buried from the church and who not.

Education
*I AM a teacher and have noticed that a lot of us behave like cowards. Very often you see teachers complaining about their school management in the newspaper, but these very same teachers smile with big white teeth with the management as if nothing’s wrong! Be professional and follow the right channels or keep quiet! That’s why things don’t work  well in our system!

*CAN the Ministry of Education do something at Omega Combined School in Mukwe circuit  in Kavango Region. Our children have stayed at home without attending school for three weeks due to no water and electricity.

*THE Ministry of Education should put some mechanisms in place on how to assist the school board members, especially the parents, at least with an allowance for them to execute their duties at their respective  schools.

Health Matters
*MINISTRY of Health have you ever seen the dressing section at Katutura Clinic? They start at 10 and one is lunch. They come back past three and at four they knock off because the room has no light.

Labour Issues
*CITY of Windhoek why are the positions of firefighters and constables not widely advertised so that our children can also apply? The media is only used when people are informed that they have been recruited. More transparency is needed. Government institutions, including municipalities, and even the private sector must think about the jobless young men and women. It is tough out there, not only for the ‘struggle kids’ but all Namibian children. My heart bleeds for these young people who only made it to Grade 10. There are not enough vocational schools that cater for them. We need vocational schools in each region.

Law and Order
*OVER 160 police officers fired? Is it those who commit crimes such as corruption, bribery, robbery, rape, drug smuggling and much more? Who is watching who? Let us face reality our ministers in charge, how can one watch millions and get paid hundreds? Government re -check your salaries and wages to minimise crimes.

*PARENTS who do not stop at stop streets while transporting children should be ashamed of themselves. How are they going to learn that they need to adhere to the laws of the land.

*THE N$2 million saga. What was that businessman doing with such an amount of Nambian  money where he claimed he was robbed? I think the Namibian police should also investigate whether he declared the money. There are always two sides to the story.

Business as Usual
*GAMBLING machines are all over, even in shebeens? Are the owners supposed to have a licence for those machines and pay tax to the government?

*IT is not only the workers that the Chinese exploit and abuse. It is the environment too. Companies from all over do environmental impact assessments and environmental management plans. Chinese mining companies just go out and destroy the environment  making uncontrolled tracks everywhere, chopping down protected trees, shooting game in parks etc etc. They do what they want to our country and those who should be controlling them turn a blind eye.

In and From the Regions
*WHY are the current governors not addressed as excellencies, if their coming into office is similar to ambassadors?

City of Windhoek
*I AM disappointed in the City of Windhoek. You try to make arrangements for your rates and taxes and explain to them that you were unemployed, but they still need 50 per cent of the amount. Where should I get the 50 per cent if I was unemployed?

Service Please

Responses to recent SMSes
*SINGLING out one school in the country for a problem that is systemic is cowardice. You want to put an end to the controversy surrounding school develop funds? Demand the leaders stop buying new bakkies for their cronies and start putting sufficient funds into the education system.

*REGARDING the grain silos: that was just misinformation from the Agriculture PS. Some silos are not even built yet. They are supposed to store maize and mahangu.

*MINISTER!Naruseb please do not allow leasing of resettlement farms. The corruption in government means the well connected will be at it again and again. Look at resettling people who are overcrowded in areas like Gam, Aminuis, Epukiro, Okotjituuo, Okondjatu and Ovitoto who really want to take livestock farming forward. We should really resettle those who need land for meaningful livestock farming, especially in Omaheke, but not to farm with three donkeys and chickens.

*WHETHER it is the UK or the mixed up Americans, as you call it, the point is, it is fixed. One will never get confused. However, in Namibia, some companies use day-month-year order whereas others use month-day-year order. Some companies don’t even keep their current order when they introduce new systems. We have to get a fixed order for our country.

*I FAIL to understand what projects people are talking about for war veterans, give them cash or houses instead.
