Food for Thought
*WHY should the people who are already paying their taxes be taxed even more? Government should rather implement methods to gather taxes from the people not paying any taxes. Because at the moment they are not contributing anything towards the development of the country. Not paying taxes is equal to corruption.

*I SAW it happening this year and it has happened. Words are not even enough to express my gratitude to the Chipolopolo of Zambia. Thank you, thank you and thank you. Southern Africa is smiling.
– Samende, Tsintsabis
Proud Chipolopolo
*WELL done Zambia’s Chipolopolo you made our southern Africa proud. Thank heavens for granting you that great historic moment.
– Baloyi
*VIVA Zambian team! I knew you would win! May the souls of your soccer team compatriots who died in the plane crash rest in eternal peace!
– Siballi Kgobetsi, Namibia
*NO wonder! One copper bullet can kill a giant elephant. Congratulations to the Zambians for showing the world how SADC can make things happen.
– Siisii
*ZAMBIA congratulations! We have been with you from the beginning of the tournament up to this special moment.
– Muhapi Masule
*SALUTE the Chipolopolo. You have done what we wanted you to do. What else? Southern Africa is full of joy.
*POLITICAL Perspective by Gwen Lister on Friday was straight to the point. Exactly how I feel as young Namibian who was born in Namibia and not in exile.
*TO the editor, greetings in Jesus’ name. Kindly take note that the name referred to on page 6 of The Namibian Feb 13, in the article about Rundu dagga bust suspects appearing in court, as Helena Boluwade is incorrectly spelled. The right spelling is Hellen. Very strange but it is the preferred spelling.
– Yours in Justice, Hellen
Law and Order
*PRESIDENT Pohamba the nation is calling for your political will to speed up the verdict on the election fraud matter and to urge the Supreme court to deliver the verdict.
*WHY can Keetmanshoop Police not stop beating, swearing at people?
*OTJIWARONGO Police patrol during the nights. You are making a noise while we are sleeping. Mind the noise pollution please. What is the hooting of more than five cars at 02h00 for?
*TRAFFIC officers must know how to talk to people and whom they are talking to. Especially the ones patrolling Khomasdal, you can’t talk to someone in that way.
Running the Show
*I AM very concerned about the internal audit at the Government of Namibia. Whenever there is an advert for the position of Internal Auditor they always require certification by the Ministry of Finance. When did the Ministry of Finance last issue such certificates? Since 2004 I have been asking about this certificate but it seems it’s no longer issued but they continue to ask for it as a requirement for internal auditors in Government! That’s where there is a problem and it seems nobody noticed this. Either the Ministry of Finance has to come up with a suitable programme or outsource it, if they don’t have the capacity to issue the certificates, or stop asking for something that does not exist!
KK
*CAN we move on from this KK issue?
Note: Agreed.

*MINISTER Kamwi until when will nurses be working without identification? What is going on with the Nursing Board of Namibia making registered nurses pay for epaulettes which are still not in stock? How can the public identify nurses if they don’t wear full uniform?
Old Soldiers
*N$200 000 should be given to war veterans who are 60 and above because it should be regarded as a retirement package not a token of appreciation. Business plans may sound fine but is a man with a background in guns only able to run the business? My advice is: to avoid white elephant projects revisit your strategy and come up with a proper solution.
Suggestions Box
*DRIVING past NaTIS Valley last week I was amazed at the length of the queue stretching to the edge of the road which is testimony to current facilities not being sufficient to cater for the demand for learners’ licences. The worst part is that hopefuls are turned away on most days because NaTIS can only register a specific number of people a day because of a lack of facilities. I suggest you register all the people on a specific day and find a bigger venue (eg Polytech’s exam hall). That way you can test more learners daily and the complaints might just stop.

*NSFAF Loan repayments. I want to know if those of us who are repaying loans are also paying for the ones who are not repaying? I started repaying N$600 on a monthly basis in 2008 against my grand total N$46 000. And to date my balance is N$37 000. An explanation needed urgently.

Service Please
*WELL done to Standard Bank! Conversions are not easy. We can’t wait for the benefits to start rolling.
*NEDBANK Namibia please we need a branch in Gobabis. We have to travel to Windhoek every time we need something. It’s only Nedbank that’s not here, all other banks are here.
*LETSHEGO why do you refuse to refund people after the loan amount is paid in full? Your customer service is poor. You expect your clients to call to claim their refunds, but you are not doing anything about it. If you don’t want to refund clients why don’t you stop deducting money as soon as they finish paying you back.
*MTC between Okambonde and Onalulango villages in Oniipa Constituency are one of the remotest areas connected to electricity, but there is no network coverage. Please help us.
*POOR service at Inland Revenue at Oshakati! I have been sending them my PAYE 5 for 2008 for the past three years now and the last time we sent it by NamPost courier addressed to a certain person, but apparently somebody else took it from the front desk and now it’s nowhere to be found. And to make matters worse they can’t find my file either! Now they are telling me to wait for a month because maybe it’s with the assessors. Is this the kind of service we expect from our tax offices? My tax ref nr is 4088896011.
*TELECOM is abusing its monopoly! Telecom cuts your connections because their Account’s Department misallocates your payment. After admitting their error Telecom does not care to reconnect the line, despite phoning and pleading more than 15 times! This is another typical example of poor service due to a monopolistic parastatal.
*CAN someone please inform us how much the taxi fare is from Olympia to Unam? Some taxi drivers charge us N$8 while others charge N$16?
*STANDARD Bank’s new Internet banking is a disaster. The bank has gone back five years in technology and the banking staff don’t know how to help customers. Total disaster. Management must wake up.
