SMSes for Friday 14 December 2012

SMS Of The Day *CAN the government re-look at the closing of government offices during lunch time? Why can’t the employees take turns taking lunch? That way they won’t need to close between 13h00 and 14h00. We sit in long queues waiting for people who have gone for lunch, especially at hospital pharmacies.

Food for Thought
*INCOMING Premier, cleaning up the civil service should be your first task. Please start with Home Affairs, followed with Health and then Education. The rest can follow.

*PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba! The nation is crying over the health facilities in the country. Your minster has failed the nation in many ways. The Ministry is very poorly managed and there is a lack of equipment. Katima Mulilo State Hospital is approximately 520km from Rundu and approximately 1 300km from Windhoek. Patients lose their lives during these long transferals in buses. Nurses are not enough. There are no bedding and no beds. How can two nurses in a ward which has 35 patients go for lunch from 07h00 to 13h00 while new patients are coming in? Please Richard Kamwi, answer the nation’s call, step down and save lives by leaving the ministry. Failure is part of life.

*WE are seeing and feeling voter education in Windhoek rural but what are political parties doing? Thanks ECN for providing us with caps upon our participation in your programme. Viva ECN!

*NINETY ‘struggle kids’ got jobs in just a few months? This is the biggest joke from our trustworthy government. Do something to remedy the situation.

*WARRANTS of arrest for traffic violations work like this: 1). Motor vehicles are not only registered to collect money, they are items which can kill or injure others and can be used to commit crimes. 2). If you let someone else drive your dangerous vehicle, which is registered in your name, you are expected to ensure that the person is competent to do so properly within the provision of the law. 3). If not, you must be held responsible for their actions in your dangerous vehicle registered in your name and for your use. How else do you expect the perpetrators of violations to be brought to book?

Bouquets and Brickbats
*POLLINATION Publishers would like to thank Samsung Electronics’ Head Office, specifically Pieter Pretorius from their Out of Border division and Theo Senekal of the Windhoek office, for the professional and efficient manner in which they helped us.
– Benita Burger

*ALI Akan, you are talking too much about how African Stars are going to win the league. Wait, the two mighty giants of the premier league are still there and it’s way too early, so beware. You know that we are the mighty Lively Lions.
– Proud Black Africa supporter from Rehoboth.

Education
*WE are fed up with the University of Namibia. Students do not enrol because they are bored or like being at Unam. They enrol to study and get out of poverty. Lecturers and exam department are losing students exam and assignment marks, and so one will have to enrol for that module again. Having prepared for graduation and all of a sudden you are told that you are no longer graduating! We are tired but there is no rescue. Unam never wants to admit to a mistake!

Service Please
*THE promised land for public servants. Early this year (March to April 2012) public servants were registered for erven/plots at Councilors’ Constituency Offices in Windhoek. Registration was followed by an article in the New Era and a broadcast on NBC TV News stating that the land will be serviced by March 2013. Is that still the case? We want to know where we stand with the promised land! Ministry of Regional Local Government Housing and Regional Development, please provide us with feedback.
n MINISTER of Education, Abraham Iyambo please tell your officers to pay up our loans. Unam is about to close and yet nothing is done. We are tired of owing people and have been patient for so long. Please hear our cries.

*NATIS management Otjiwarongo please, we need improvement in your admin on drivers testing day (Thursday). People are pushing one another and people who sleep at the gate will not get a chance to drive. Women are pushed away by men and you are only taking 15 people per week. We need change please!

Suggestion Box
*INCOMING Minister of Home Affairs, Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana we got to know you as a stickler for order. Please revamp the passport, registration of births etc. First get a bigger space then have a look at how MTC and Old Mutual are conducting their business. If you can turn around that section you will be the darling of the Namibian nation.

Labour
*FRANS Kapofi, you can easily say there is no money. Why did you conclude the negotiations? Make no mistake, we will join the teachers next year to strike.

*WHO are representing us as workers of private doctors? We are Namibian but we are sick and tired of small salaries. Government please help us. Doctors are making too much money.

*GOVERNMENT must give the teachers their back pay like they promised. We as parents don’t want to see our kids neglected in January please. Some of us can’t afford to send our kids to private schools.

*I AM just wondering if the unions and the government really signed an agreement or is it a bogus thing, just to silence the rest of the teachers and the rest of the public servants? Why are our back pay cheques and increments taking so long? As a result of this long wait I am actually suffering from acute stress and back-pain because I am waiting in vain for the back pay. Please, please!
– Hardworking and stressed [civil] servant.

*AS usual those from the Ohangwena Region who marked Grade 10 National exams are yet to be paid whereas their counterparts in Khomas, Erongo etc, got paid in early November. They are about to get their payment for Grade 12 marking. Is this delay due to incompetence or it is just deliberate. Please, we need that money before Christmas.

Politics
*IT’S high time for us as opposition parties to unite and form a national party that will enable us to challenge Swapo. Our leaders should embrace the idea because we will never defeat Swapo as long as we are divided. With a small population like ours, it’s suicidal to have multi parties, while 75 percent are already Swapo voters. Our ideas will never be realised. I hope Hidipo Hamutenya, Kuaima Riruako, Ignatius Shixwameni, Ben Ulenga and Katuutire Kaura will consider this proposal very seriously. If not, I believe, we who follow and serve them will be in vain. Please, united we stand a better chance.

*BEN Ulenga, leave Swapo alone and concentrate on your near collapsed CoD. If you are so much better at unity than Swapo, why is it that in such a short period your party has already been a product of an offshoot party? If you are not tribal why is it that those who severed ties with your party are non-Oshiwambo? Why did you not step down yourself and let Ignatius Shixwameni, Norah Schimming-Chase or Tsudao Gurirab take charge? They are all non-Oshiwambo, if you claim not to be tribal and divisive. Leave Hage Geingob and Swapo alone and then lead by example in your dismally performing CoD.

*IF any citizen ever questioned what Namibia and Swapo has achieved in 22 years of independence, the answer is maturity, fluent democracy and tolerance. In the past weeks, Jerry Ekandjo and Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana hugged and cheered for Hage Geingob after the vice presidential election outcome. Then Geingob gave Calle Schlettwein a big welcome at Trade and Industry. Nahas Angula handed over to Geingob at OPM and Iivula-Ithana handed over to Nangolo Mbumba at Swapo headquarters. No tears, bloodshed or court orders. Only warm handshakes and kind regards! Mali, Madagascar, Egypt and Syria take note!

*ABRAHAM Iyambo and Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila – the lion has roared. Please! Do something to civil servants increment before your downfall.

Response to Previous SMSes
*RESPONSE to SMS about Avis Bridge. The tests and investigations would entail some incredible expense. The road under would have to be diverted to enable pier inspection. The rails lifted to access the cross ties and beams. And TransNamib doesn’t care anyway because the decay would manifest itself over a period of time, so they can pull in a contractor and eliminate any risk to themselves. Its been there 90 years and was designed for 610mm rail, and upgraded in the 20s to 1035mm rail.

In and From the Regions
*ONGWEDIVA Town Council, how many more years since 1978 are we going to suffer due to dusty streets? Please do something.

*NAMWATER Outapi, we are dying at Okafitu Kakafimbi. The water just shut down without any warning. We can’t predict, please next time inform us about your plan.
