Food for Thought
*IT amazes me to see how traffic users of all races communicate in order to warn each other of the presence of traffic officials. It is so brotherly. But what if that same sort of passionate communication was directed towards social and economic development of our country, rather than communicating to hide from the law?
Bouquets and Brickbats
*WELL done Linda, you are such an inspiration to the youth. Shame on the elder selfish artists who are self-centred and don’t appreciate their fans and the disadvantaged.
– Tokollo, Ongwediva
*EXCELLENT suggestion from Prime Minister Nahas Angula to use the German Special Fund to buy land! Please National Planning Commission, get moving on this idea.
*SICK nation! Using a puppy as bait in the north. Shows no brain cells!
*USING puppies tied to a cable to bait a crocodile. Namibians, wake up and smell the coffee. There is right and there is wrong and this is wrong. This type of behaviour will continue to give our country a bad name and keep tourists and investors away. This is not the behaviour of a civilised nation.
Health Check
*CONGRATULATIONS Mr President on appointing a Commission of Enquiry into the Public Health Sector. I commend you highly.
– Health Conscious Citizen
*AT last! The first Presidential Commission of Inquiry after eight years! I could not believe my eyes and ears looking at the 19h00 news on Monday evening! When will the results of the report be made public? Will it depend on the contents? (I refer to the report on the missing N$600 million from the GIPF which is not yet known) And will those who didn’t perform be suspended with full salary for years? Anyway it’s a first step in the correct direction - thank you, President Pohamba!
*THE Presidential Commission of Inquiry is a step in the right direction. It should really bring tangible change. I hope one of the recommendations will be discipline amongst health workers. The key to health is the professional/patients ratio. The population is growing but the number of professionals has not increased. Management of health facilities and professionals should also be looked into and strengthened.
*WHAT is there about our health system that is not known that we need a commission of inquiry?
*DEAR Comrade President: We have already had more than three commissions of inquiry but the outcomes, until today after 10 years, remain top secret.
*THE reports of other commissions of inquiry are in State House dustbins and so is the taxpayer’s money. By the way, is it possible to disclose the allowances of the commissioners of the latest presidential commission?
*I THINK we first need a commission of inquiry into commissions of inquiry?
*WHILE we appreciate the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on health, we urge the President to do the same with the Ministry of Justice.
*HEALTH Minister Richard Kamwi you are right. We have wasted time, energy and money with previous Presidential Commissions of Inquiry. Hope this one is also not moth fodder.
ACC Alert
*CAN the Anti-Corruption Commission please start doing an in-depth investigation into why some government and semi-government employees, who are employed to do a certain job, don’t do it as they are too busy caring for their own corrupt businesses. Maybe a telephone number should be made available where these culprits can be reported
Law and Order
*THE illegal fishing and hunting in the Kavango is reportedly done by Angolans assisted by our own Namibians. These activities are done at night so to tell everybody reading this newspaper that officials will be camping there next week does not seem very smart. Why not just put up a notice board with dates when you will be in the area in order for the criminals not to come?
Education
*I HOPE that the Ministry of Education has improved the conditions for markers at the showgrounds where the chairs and desks are uncomfortable for marking.
– Nesili, Outapi.
*PLEASE help us at Moses //Garoëb. Why are the teachers using corporal punishment?
Health Matters
*PARENTS you need to discipline your children otherwise you will reap what you are sowing. How on earth is the teacher teaching and the learner is listening to music? What is that and where are we heading?
Labour Issues
*THE Namibian Employers Federation accuses Government of dancing to the unions’ tune. The unions equal the people, so why shouldn’t the Government dance to the people’s tune?
*WE will never eradicate unemployment if the Government continues appointing the over-60s.
City Fathers
*THANK you City of Windhoek for stopping applications and the renewal of shebeen licences. I vote for their permanent termination - now! Let’s start to reduce existing shebeens and relocate them from within residential areas.
*CAN the City of Windhoek please clean up all riverbeds in Katutura and not only in town suburbs. Please clean the riverbed behind Oluzizi Car Wash up to the road alongside Underground Bar. These riverbeds all over Windhoek should be cleaned up four times a year and not only when you are literally begged to do so. Be as quick to deliver service to us as you are to cut of water and electricity.
*THE City Police are fining motorists who park at Swabou. Now we the residents are the victims. We can hardly access our own properties because of lots of vehicles parked in front of our gates throughout the day. Please help!
In and From the Regions
*COME on Karibib Municipality and Navachab Mine combine and start caring for your employees and their families and do something about the vehicle-damaging Berg Street that goes over the mountain. Its not even pram- , bicycle- or senior-citizens-walking-their-dogs-friendly. We are beyond desperate.
*EENHANA is a small town but very organised. If a pedestrian is found walking in the road, then a traffic fine is issued. Taxis and buses at Eenhana do not fight for customers. We use first come, first served, not like at other places where taxi men grab customers’ belongings. Congratulations to all involved. Others please take this example.
*THE Ministry of Trade and Industry Resource Centre is hampering business growth in the Caprivi. For over two months now it has been without an Internet connection. How are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups and emerging entrepreneurs supposed to do their research for their businesses without the Internet? Ironically, at the front desk, you’ll often find an assistant on Facebook! One has to ask is this standard practice?
– Concerned, Katima Mulilo
*I WOULD like to know from our leaders why they do not speak in their mother tongue when addressing the masses at their birth places? Last week I was very disappointed to see our director of the Anti-Corruption Commission speak to the Traditional Authority in English. Speaking in Oshiwambo shows respect and makes them grasp the message better than getting it through a translation. I want to see our leaders value their vernacular language whenever they are talking to the local communities especially, where they were born and bred.
– Ndasuunye, Windhoek
Sporting
*NAMIBIA Football Association what happened to the Khomas Youth League referees’ payments? It’s now two months but no payments yet.
Service Please
*THE Ministry of Home Affairs has to realise we get older and therefore every 10 years we should at least change our ID pictures! I don’t look the same as I did when I had my picture taken 15 years ago!
*MINISTRY of Home Affairs ID Collection after 22 years of independence service provision is still poor. Do we need a commission of inquiry?
Lost and Found
*I PICKED up a purse of Ms Claudia Sitali. She can call me at 081-290-0361.
