SMSes for Wednesday 01 August 2012

SMS Of The Day *I AM happy to see that a cheaper bus service will be introduced for students at tertiary institutions. Can City of Windhoek also do the same for learners at primary and secondary schools who walk great distances to and from school every day? Please help to keep our children safe

Food for Thought
*NAMIBIA’S biggest obstacle to prosperity is her leaders who are all living in the past. If we don’t do something about that soon, it will be the death of her as well.

Bouquets and Brickbats
*DESMOND Kasuto congrats on your fantastic achievement at the Olympics. We are proud of you and all our great sports people.

*I CANNOT believe Gecko Industrial ‘Park’ is still on the cards. The number of jobs lost in tourism and fishing will eventually far outnumber the jobs Gecko says they will generate. The very nature of operations will mean health and environmental issues. Namibia forget about the fast buck and think about the real future!

Politics
*WHY blame Government for poverty, unemployment, lack of housing, education failure? You voted for the Government so deal with it. You have a choice.

From the House
*TO our ministers: have you not got more important issues in Cabinet than to change names  of towns? Hope you also realise that name changes cost a lot of money. Stop looking backwards and rather show the world that you are able to make important decisions.

*DID we vote our for leaders to go to Parliament and propose name changes for towns? What is it they are trying to achieve with name changes? Do they understand what they are doing? What about Namibian history which was written with those names both locally and internationally? So it is high time for us to ban the Namibian history from school! Why are these parliamentarians turning a blind eye to problems such as housing,  unemployment and crime? Tired!

*I THINK there are bread-and-butter issues that can be discussed by the Cabinet rather than changing names. This is 22 years after independence and Caprivi remains one of the least developed region in the country. A new name will never change that. Name change is not a priority right now.

*MINISTER of Presidential Affairs Albert Kawana, you know perfectly well that the issue will raise tribal tensions in the region but you still table such a proposal. Can you please concentrate on developmental issues in the region. If you don’t have anything to table in Cabinet, it’s better to be quiet.

*I AM not surprised by Minister Kawana’s remarks on a change of name for Caprivi Region. What are we going to benefit from the name change? Elections should just come so that some of you are chucked out.

*WE want development in Caprivi Region, we are not interested in a new name. What are you  trying to achieve, sir?

*THE Minister of Presidential Affairs should use his highly respected position to advocate for the bread-and-butter issues that affect many Caprivi residents rather than changing the name of the region, which will save no purpose.

*THIS whole thing of changing the name of Caprivi is absurd and waste of time and resources. People of the region want jobs to support their families. What about Namibia itself? We must come up with a name which incorporates all the country’s tribes. Think in the line of Wanaheda. (Wambo, Nama, Herero, Damara?)

A Pace to Call Home
*IF the Government can provide N$3 billion to build a dam, what is so difficult about providing even N$50 million for one-bedroom houses countrywide? You are so proud to talk about a N$3 billion dam or a museum, but forgot that people need to sleep before they go to work. Government wake up, we  want houses.

Law and Order
*AT NaTIS the queues are frustrating. Let NaTIS people work shifts on a 24-hour basis.

*I AM really tired of criminals robbing people of their hard-earned money. I ask all commercial banks to find a solution to the cloning issue. Our money is no longer safe with the banks. My main concern is where do criminals get these devices? A thorough investigation is needed urgently. If criminals are getting them from outside, borders should be screened and the devices not be allowed in this country.

*EVERY day there are accidents at the crossing of Uhland and Schanzen streets. A four-way stop or even better a roundabout would spare us from that. I have become tired of writing to the traffic police. This corner is so dangerous because people race over the hilltop of Uhland into the crossing – blindly. The other side has many speed bumps, the high side has none.

*WHETHER it’s Namibian Police or Windhoek City Police, your must start to control the shebeens situated in the residential areas, especially in Kamberipa Street.

In and From the Regions
*IT is obvious that the village councils are struggling financially all over Namibia. There is no development in some places like Tses, Witvlei etc. Why are the Government, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, turning a deaf ear to the people? Why not come up with  solutions to solve some issues, like boreholes with solar pumps to add to NamWater tanks?  Also solar electricity panels to add to NamPower electricity to reduce  tariffs so people and the council can take a breath.

*THE new chief executive officer of Usakos, we don’t see you moving around and inspecting your town. Leave your office and get the dirty town cleaned up! Look at the mess in front of the school hostel. Even inside the municipal yard is a dumping site!

*PLEASE Minister Jerry Ekandjo we need a special advisor for Walvis Bay because senior officials are giving wrong advice to the chief executive officer. We are tired of these issues in Walvis Bay and need an older strong person to do this.

Education
*MOST schools in Namibia now have  computer labs. This is good for our learners and the community too. The sad thing is that many of these labs aren’t functioning anymore or are  working partially due to the loss of software, network breakdowns and other technical problems. In a region, a single technician is situated far away from these schools. Government must add vacancies for technicians for circuits/clusters so the situation is closely monitored.

*DR Iyambo, please create a platform for teachers who did not sign and support the Nantu letter on the Onampira SS issue to say something. In the first place the school board’s letter was from one person only. Imagine our children are told  ‘Aluta Continua’ at the morning devotion. We want a thorough investigation. We all fought for this country.

Health Matters
*I WENT to look for a medical report of 2006 at Grootfontein State Hospital only to find out that the records are burned after five years. When are we going to modernise things? It’s high time the admin work load is computerised. Now we cannot receive what is due to us because of poor management and  red tape.

*I WAS seriously disturbed to see a government representative on TV telling the nation that the cure for a certain type of cancer is available in Namibia,  but only at private consultants. Until when poor people will continue suffering in this country?

NBC
*ARE you not going to show us Miss Namibia on TV again this year? We want this show please.

Service Please
*I WITHDREW N$20 000 from my access bond account at Standard Bank. The home loan department deposited N$19 700 into my cheque account. Upon enquiry, I was told that N$300 was charged as a fee. However this N$300 fee is not reflected anywhere on either of the two accounts. Is this correct?

*BANK Windhoek Katima your service is so poor a client can stand for two hours without service. Please improve.

Lost and Found
*I FOUND Winston Cramer’s ID card. Call 081-301-3744.

*I HEADLEY Derick Cloete lost my ID. If found please contact me on 081-807-7083.

*I HERRMANUS Hardley Ganeb lost my ID in Rundu. If found please contact me on 081-388-6903.

Service Please
*MINISTRY of Home Affairs please employ more staff at your Northern Industrial Area office. Your staff are too slow to handle the number of people seeking services. Queues are long, your staff members are not friendly and helpful. One cannot ask questions as they shout at you as if you are their children. Please do something about this situation!
– Unhappy Namibian citizen!

*IT’S Tuesday, July  31 08h50 at Katima Mulilo Home Affairs office, yet they have not started serving people who arrived here as early as 06h00.

*AIR Namibia how can you remove the Cape Town-Walvis Bay flight?

Responses to recent SMSes
*OLUFUKO for boys! All boys and young men should be taught how to respect girls and women. And please teach them how to deal with rejection. Women are beings and neither slaves nor property.

*RESEARCH should be done on teen pregnancy – the type of family where these girls are from and the age of man who fathers these children. Examples should be made of these men. Mothers should talk to children and teach them not to be materialist.
