SMSes for Tuesday 07 August 2012

SMS Of The Day *I FELT so proud seeing our own Frank Fredericks handing over medals at the Olympics. We might not win any medals this year but Frank Fredericks and the Namibian legacy will live on. – Proud Namibian

Food for Thought
*TO address the reading problem make class reading and prescribed work compulsory like in the past.

Bouquets and Brickbats
*CONGRATULATIONS Helalia. What a great marathon in London. We share your joy!

*WELL done Helalia Johannes. You’ve made us proud. Twelfth place out of 118. You may not have won a medal but you kept your composure throughout the race and improved your national record. With hard work and dedication, I believe that you will bring a medal back in 2016.

*WELL done Helalia, 12 will be my lucky number.

*TWELTH and 38th out of 118 world-class athletes! Well done our marathon ladies for putting Namibian athletics back on the world radar. It took the TV commentator nearly half the race to even notice our two girls were constantly in that leading group of 20! Maybe they’ll take better note in future.

*I WOULD like to congratulate our women marathon runners for coming in at number 12 and 38 respectively out of more than 100 runners at the London Olympics

*I REALISED that the campaign ‘My country My pride’ is relevant. Some despised Lady May and wished for her to be evicted and even voted against her. What they did not see is our national flag she was holding.

*I AM so proud of our Lady May. Job well done. She really represented our country well.  Now let’s see if someone can reward such efforts. President Robert Mugabe did it not once but twice. The Government must reward such efforts.

*I WISH NBC would give Lady May her award when she comes back.

*SHAME on NBC for not broadcasting Big Brother Africa’s finale live

*BRAVO Windhoek City firefighters! On behalf of the Kappsfarm Community Against Crime, I want to extend our since thanks and appreciation to Mr Kaura at the control centre and the team of city firefighters for the speedy response when we called on them  assistance with the fire at Herbots Blick Estate! This is truly the type of support services residents want to see from their city and which can make us a leading city in SADC. Please keep it up!
– Brian Black

*THE new Labour Act which outlaws labour hire has forced more than 7 000 casuals to lose jobs. Knowing that the unemployment figure is currently around 51 per cent, how can this catastrophe be allowed to happen in the Land of Brave!

*YET again only caring for themselves. The new Labour Act has left people jobless, homeless and without food. As far as I know we are trying every day to stop that from happening. Are we not tying to help build Namibia into a poverty-free nation?

*CONFIDENT, brave Brave Lady May. We love you a lot. You did it with or without the money. You make us proud. I salute you.

*THE Miss Namibia pageant was very, very boring! The whole programme was boring! It’s the same thing every year.

Politics

*POLITICIANS  stop recycling the same faces at various boards. We want new, young, educated and diverse people from all Namibian tribes.

Law and Order
*OVER 160 police officers sacked in six months is very shocking. But what is causing bad behaviour among NamPol cops? It is time to upgrade these guys salaries.

Business as Usual

*IT has been a long time coming! Kenya Airways and Air Namibia in talks. I really hope something comes out of the talks as a direct flight home would be great.
– Alice Kutwa

*CARS are recalled globally, but one never hears of a recall in Namibia? Do we not have laws that protect us from manufacturer defects?

City Fathers

*COULD the City of Windhoek please do something about the condition of the Monte Christo road?

Education
*DEPUTY Minister of Education, David Namwandi, please help us poor parents whose children are at Augeikhas Primary School in Katutura. Teachers refuse to give their progress reports due to the full amount of school fund fees not paid. Help the poor.

Health Matters

*MINISTRY of Health you are losing young nurses to pursue medicine? Can you please look at why they are leaving and solve the problem before it’s too late? If you can afford to pay more to nurses coming from outside Namibia, why can’t you do it for your own people? The same number of nurses you produce every year is the the same number leaving the profession every year.

*WE also need ARV doctors in Outjo. We have been waiting for a doctor to finish at the state hospital and come and help us at 15h00.

Labour Issues

*WE have been working for Ministry of Health and Social Services at Oshakati from February 2012 as social workers but we have not yet been paid our salaries. We were at Prime Minister Nahas Angula’s office and they promised to pay us within two weeks. Two months have passed and nothing. Please, who can help? We need food.

In and From the Regions
*KEEPING horses and donkeys on residential erven in Keetmanshoop has become routine. These animals wander off as far as PK de Villiers hostel grounds. Municipality please act!

*THE gravel road between Omitara and Otjinene is supposed to be closed because it is a danger to human lives. Imagine a stretch of 180 km on a badly damaged road. It is not a gravel surface, it’s sand and potholes. Fellow road users are we just at the mercy of the Roads Authority, Roads Contractor Company and politicians? It’s time we demand better service that we deserve as citizens and taxpayers.

NBC
*I WOULD appreciate it if the NBC could do the same as the SABC and invite our ministers  and top government officials for interviews and clarifications on issues and topics concerning their ministries. And not wait only until election time for positions.

*NBC just want to make a profit but they can’t even broadcast Miss Namibia.

Service Please
*I REALLY don’t understand why Standard Bank home loan staff are so slow. How on earth did it take them to two years to merge the accounts and took two years to rectify a mistake although documents were submitted on time? Urgent intervention from management is really needed.

*WHAT is the Australian consulate doing here if their office can’t assist Namibians to apply for visas to Australia? We have to send applications to South Africa!

*MINISTRY of Finance, Customs & Excise Division please do something about your processes. It is very dangerous for someone to walk around with a lot of money and it is equally unreasonable to expect a person to leave his/her car at the border to hitch-hike to the nearest bank to get money to pay the customs duty fees before one can bring in your car. Why can’t you invoice the person so that he/she can pay at the nearest customs office? Or install an electronic payment device so that one can pay by debit or credit card? Why do you treat people like criminals? Where can I go if I want to put this complaint in writing?
