SMSes for Friday 24 August 2012

SMS Of The Day *MY heroes are all the men and women who suffered in our country. The ones who were beaten and spit on by the former government and some were left paralysed up to today.

Food for Thought
*ACCESS of information is imperative for government if it wants to make sense. The strike of NBC vividly shown how at risk we are.

*LET us fight against alcohol. It poses a serious danger to Namibian nation!

Bouquets and Brickbats
n WELL done to each and every Namibian individual and private and public partners in tourism who made it possible for the Adventure Travel World Summit to be held in Africa for the first time next year, especially in Namibia. We are proud of you. Looking forward to next year already.
– Gottlieb

*HOW do I get hold of the Ministry of Health’s Commission of Inquiry? I have an experience to share.
–Grieving mother, Otjozondjupa

*I THINK there is no rule that states that if you are number one during an interview you get the job. There are people, well connected, who failed but got appointed. Let’s apply rules equally.

*SO, a car thief was caught in Windhoek. Police shot him when he ran away. In the leg they say. Now he died. From a shot in the leg? Who authorises the use of guns against a fleeing unarmed man in a civilised society? This is cowardice, arrogance and laziness – blatant disrespect for human life and God. Are our officers too unfit to run after a thief? Was the retrieval of a damaged and, in any event, insured luxury car worth taking a young Namibian’s life? Beating taxi drivers, demolishing homes of the poorest, killing an innocent family father for not stopping at a road block ... The list of disproportionate and excessive police violence is endless. Marikana can easily happen in Namibia too!
– Concerned

Civil Servants
*IT IS very painful and an embarrassment that the government bail out NBC and leave out the public servants.

*NDF members and police salaries are pathetic and the lowest in our government. We are renting rooms in other people’s houses and are constantly at cash loans. God help the poor uniformed members.
– Matthew, Windhoek.

*TEACHERS, nurses and other government employees, what happened at NBC is what we call industrial action. Downing tools until all their demands are met. Teachers should demonstrate after school and nurses during lunch time with some nurses still working. A good example from NBC employees. Teachers copy it please.

*MINISTRY of Health why are the nurses not getting fixed overtime? I think there are also those who are supposed to get bush allowance. Why not? We need feedback soon!

*MINISTER Namwandi why are you good at intimidating teachers for not doing their work properly but you are not good at intimidating finance department for not giving us our pay slips on paydays? It takes one to two months in Ohangwena for teachers to get their pay slips. Comb us with the same comb please!
– Kambode

*OFFICE of the Prime Minister, we civil servants, want our salary increment for this year please. Everything is going up and up in this country. Do something for us please!

Scam Alert

*GROOTFONTEIN community the thugs are in the area. Be careful! They want your money in a nice way. One pretends not to understand English. The other one is apparently his boss and the other two are pretending to be Angolans who are hiding somewhere. The first person will come to you and say he needs help because they cannot understand each other. They will start phoning each other and he will ask you to speak to his boss in English so that he tell you where to meet because the white man, the big boss, does not like a lot of people in their office. They pretend to have a big jewellery company in South Africa.

In and from the Regions
*MINISTRY of Health thank you for the new clinic at Okoloti Hedimbi. We appreciate it. Now we need an ambulance. Really, we are suffering. Even the nurse had a problem last week but he had to wait for the ambulance from Tsumeb and he was bleeding. We need an ambulance with a driver throughout!

*CAN a solution be found for the people of Eastern Caprivi’s flood situation? We can learn from the people of the Netherlands how they manage to live with the floods.

*THE MINISTER of Education should visit the Karas Region to address the importance of education to the parents. Some parents go to shebeens with their kids instead of sending them to school.

*DEAR Minister please send an investigation team to Omaruru Municipality to do an in depth investigation into the affairs of the council. We don’t want our council to be degraded.
– Concerned staff member

*PLEASE can the Namibian government give electricity to the people in community do not give to schools only. Supply electricity to the nation. Minister Katali do something. We want electricity because the fruit of this country is just eaten by those outside the country. Please change.

NBC

*WELCOME back NBC TV! Congrats that you got your salary hikes!

*AUCHAMUB must not get performance bonus. It’s workers’ money.

*NBC should go back to their strike. We really don’t care.

*VERY few Namibians felt the absence of NBC, including me. Please advice the NBC employees to select the jobs of their choice carefully in future to avoid portraying the ‘greed’ and the level of ‘selfishness’ like they just did. They are so unpatriotic I just can’t believe its true. It felt like a doctor refusing to save a life. Look what happened at Marikana in South Africa and we had to hear it from other sources. “You failed the nation. NBC you are not fit to serve the public anymore,” was going to be the judge’s words.
– Concerned citizen.

*HOW could Minister Joel Kaapanda say that NBC workers didn’t show patriotism? How can one show his patriotism if he is hungry while you got a full belly? A hungry man is an angry man! Don’t you know that?

*NOT everybody is satisfied with NBC but it is good that they are back on air. Thank you especially to the German Radio Service. You always keep us informed keep it up!

*WHEN Gabes Ambunda of Napwu was addressing the NBC employees was he doing so on behalf of Swapo, or the union which represents the workers irrespective of their political affiliation, because not all the workers are affiliated to political parties or none at all. He must be advised better.

Service Please
*MINISTRY of Home Affairs is making people suffer. I have been waiting for six years without birth certificate and ID. I lost my birth certificate but when I went there to apply for another one they told me that they are still putting names in the system. We don’t know for how long we will wait.

*PLEASE NTA wake up! We were admitted at Valombola VTC to do hospitality and tourisms but until now we are just sitting at home for the whole year doing nothing? NTA do something! Your are wasting our time. We want study.

*DAYLIGHT robbery! I must say I am ashamed at how some doctors are robbing us. They see our illness as an opportunity to make money. I went to see a doctor recently. When I got the SMS notification from the medical aid I was dumbfounded at the amount the doctor claimed from my medical aid. I requested a report from my medical aid and I could not make out what had been claimed but through discussions with friends I realised I was not the only one! Can someone protect us? How can consultation all of a sudden cost N$650? I urge that people should report such matters and put a stop to this!

Olufuko
*WHAT a terrible public humiliation for these young school going children 16 to 19-years-old! Ovawambo have parted ways with the culture of showing ones naked breasts in public. Are these girls really getting married traditionally? Will they continue with school? Are they truly free to get husbands or sleep around with men with no fear of getting pregnant before marriage and HIV, if so? Or is it just a drama? What if they get teased and bullied at school by their school mates? Is the Town Council paying these girls or they are just being used to make money for the Council and after that they would be discarded like some piece of garbage?

*OLUFUKO festival is progressing well so far and so many Namibians are here buying and selling their local products. This shows a good image of Namibians.

Response to Previous SMS
*HOW can you fall off your chair because of Lady May’s dress? Why didn’t you do that when Tjipekapora, Beata and Helalia raced at the Olympics, or is it because she is not an athlete? Leave her alone.
– Leonard Shivute, Grootfontein
