Food for Thought
*GOVERNMENT implements decisions without proper consultation with the people. We are losing faith in the comrades in power.
Bouquets and Brickbats
*WITH the Curiosity on Mars, we should be very proud to say that Japie van Zyl is a Namibian.
*NAMIBIAN athletes, we are proud of each and every one of you. You carried our flag high and represented our country well!
*I WOULD like to applaud your cartoonists for their educative, inquisitive and indulging cartoons that go far beyond words in describing what is happening in Namibian society. They usually speak volumes compared to extensive pieces of writing appearing on Fridays. Keep it up Dudley.
*SO many articles quote people “on condition of anonymity” in our papers. It is clear that we do not live in an open, democratic and safe society, and that corporates and government institutions can very easily victimise individuals. This is why corruption thrives. Don’t look to our leaders for answers here ... they are just as guilty.
*LADY May I nearly fell off my chair when I saw you appearing on my TV screen in what you were wearing.
*LADY May I was very sorry about the way you dressed on Sunday in front of Africa, representing the Land of the Brave. Please improve.
Business as Usual
*WE must be mindful not to become a nation whose labour laws do not complement our national development plans or make the attainment of these goals almost mission impossible! Our labour laws must also assist in creating more employment opportunities for the thousands of our jobless fellow citizens and not force more workers to join the already alarming unemployment line! For instance, I think it is more appropriate to ban the inhuman transportation of workers in an open truck and inappropriate wages, than banning labour hire. As in doing so, we are denying both employers and employees, not only from making use of a specialised pool of experts but also the creation of more employment opportunities for our jobless people!
– Brian Black
*EXCUSE me if I’m wrong but we Namibians are weak! Thousands of jobs were lost due to idiots and simple court cases. Leave the recruiting agency alone! It’s doing us and the nation as a whole a favour! It’s simple, more jobs less crime! We should stand up for injustices! If the Middle East can do it, so can we!
Old Soldiers
*MINISTER of Veterans’ Affairs, why does it take so long for those of us to receive our lump sum of N$50 000? After giving Ministers and high Government officials theirs, you are quiet. I don’t think that’s fair. Some people have already received houses, N$200 000 and N$50 000, while some are yet to receive a cent although we are all war veterans. Some of us were even at the battle front like myself.

GIPF Saga
*I TOTALLY agree with Kaaronda on the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) saga. Government must do something. That’s our parents’ money and today most of them are suffering! Can President Pohamba do something about it please!
Law and Order
*WE, mothers from Omaruru, have been struggling without maintenance payments for four month because the computer is out of order. We are being told to wait but nothing has been done. Our children are suffering.
In and From the Regions
*MINISTRY of Environment and Tourism, Otjovasandu station in Etosha National Park has been without electricity since May 2011 when the generator broke. They have been in darkness for one year and three months now. It’s not like working in Government, it’s like working at a cattle post. They are tired of empty promises from their supervisors in Okaukuejo who have electricity for 24 hours a day.
*THE Ministry of Agriculture must consider establishing a cattle breeding station here in Caprivi for other (breeds) such as Brahman and Bonsmara. The only cattle breed we know here is the Sanga. We also need to improve our breed by cross-breeding. The nearest area where we can get other breeds is in Grootfontein which is 1 000 kilometres away. Only the rich can afford to buy cattle there. The transport costs are more than the price of the cattle. Government must help us.
*TSUMEB municipality, we want electricity here in Kuvukiland. We are suffering. Not enough taps and toilets. Please make a plan.
*MINISTER Jerry Ekandjo, please urgently investigate the Henties Bay Municipality. The town is suffering as result of poor work performance, shady land deals and mismanagement. This simply cannot be tolerated any longer.
City Fathers
*THANKS to the Windhoek Municipality for trying to save electricity but please inform us of your schedule for turning off geysers. We have to plan when to wash clothes for babies, the elderly, etc.
Education
*PLEASE, parents sending birthday cakes and sweets to pre-primary schools for their children should stop because it puts a lot of strain on those parents who cannot afford to do it, and try their best to have healthy lunch boxes every day.
Health Matters
*THE reason we go to clinics is to be treated. Now clinics are closing while the patients are waiting and, if it’s lunch time, they are being chased out! Minister Kamwi what kind of rule is this? And they don’t even put up a notice to warn the people!
Labour Issues
*MINISTRY of Labour, please we at (name supplied) Security need your help. When are we going to change from N$3,80 to N5 per hour? Please do something, we are struggling.
Note: While approval has been granted for this increase, it still has to published in the Government Gazette before the new amount is paid.
– Newsdesk
*HUMAN resources officers, calling an applicant to come to sit for an interview to be conducted the next day is unprofessional. Please Ministry of Education in the Omusati and Ohangwena regions, stop the practice.
*MINISTRY of Defence, why are the human resources in the Ministry so very slow to work on files on time for members who have retired or resigned?
NBC
*NBC, I am disappointed. I wonder what our children gain from ‘Just Wyling’. Don’t you have anything to broadcast? Remember we are paying our TV licences.
*NBC TV your channels are boring. We also have elders who are watching. Where did you get this ‘Just Wyling’?

Responses to recent SMSes
*MEATCO! Minister Mutorwa, you are the initiator of all those Cabinet decisions. Be a leader and go back to the Cabinet and ask them to revisit their decision because of the strong views held by the meat producers.
*AS a Namibian, I do not think the Reiterdenkmal statue should be moved. Although it carries a painful history it doesn’t change the fact that it’s history none the less. Rather than moving it, I think there should be a memorial set up next to it to honour the lives lost because of that war and to better educate the next generation.
