SMSes for Friday 30 September 2011

SMS Of The Day *CAN the Municipality tell us when they will open the taxi rank in Cimbebasia because the taxi drivers tell us that the ranks are not open and we still have to pay double. Service please! – Worried lady SMS your views to 99902

Food for Thought
*NAMIBIANS should become less accepting of long queues which arise from incompetence, laziness and arrogance of government officials. After all we pay their salaries.

Bouquets and Brickbats

*WELCOME home Welwitschias! We are proud of you – not only because of your fighting spirit but also because of your loyalty and excellent conduct. We love you!

*WELL done Welwitschias. No matter the scores you are excellent. In the game with the Springboks at 36 minutes that was whoa SA. Welcome back. You did very well.
– MB

*MR Schlettwein I have been following what you recently said in the newspapers, in particular about the insurance industry. It needs to be revamped. I like your comments on our economic issues.

*DEPUTY Minister Calle Schlettwein your comments in The Namibian, September 28 on the abnormal cost of insurance is very true and these costs need to be revised. The same thoughts need to be applied to the prices of housing in this country. Who are these prices benefiting anyway? Maybe the previously advantage minority because they are the ones who own insurance, banks and real estate companies. Our people are poor and we need a Government which fights for people’s rights and dignity. Some of us chose to be educated because it is the only ticket out of poverty but it seems like people are getting educated in this country to be poor and enriching those who are already rich. This is really economic colonisation at its best.

*I WOULD like to ask MTC not to give our numbers to the people running SMS competitions. If I didn’t SMS to take part in their competition, how did they get my number to tell me what promotions they are running?
– A very angry customer in Swakopmund

*EVERY day Namibians wake up to medical horrors committed at State Hospitals. The story of the small girl with her intestine hanging out reminds one of a horror movie. Tell me how long will the poor be allowed to suffer like this. Mr Minister, the poor also feel pain. They have feelings and they die too!

*HEALTH services in horrific state: Dr. Kamwi how is it possible that any nursing sister or doctor in a hospital or clinic can allow a human being to leave with intestines hanging outside the body! God save this nation from evil people who do this to another human being!

*TO NaTIS Windhoek: Why are only two out of 5 counters for vehicle licensing open when there are 30 people in the queue?

*IT is very sad to hear that people who came to Namibia from 1930 to 1977 should go to the nearest councillors’ offices for citizenship, while my half-sister is unable to acquire an identity document while she was born here from Namibians.
– Linus, Outapi.

Politics in General
*THE problem with politics in Africa is that political parties are religions and their leaders the gods and as gods they see themselves above the law criticism and the people. The people are only there to serve them and praise them. Anything else is considered blasphemy.

Running the Show

*MR President if the female back benchers are not performing in Parliament please remove them. What are they doing? That’s a waste of our taxpayers money. Next term select the tested leaders who can speak and debate in Parliament.
– Proud Namibian

*MINISTER Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah tourism can also boost our country but why don’t students who are studying travel and tourism get any bursaries directly from the industry, like engineering students and others? Please Minister do something for us.

From the House
*I CONGRATULATE RDP Jesaya Nyamu for asking Parliament to make a law to regulate political parties’ flags. It is a fact that the ruling party Swapo flags are unregulated. They are all over and not only at election campaign time.
– Defender of democracy

Old Soldiers
*CAN the war veterans please stop threatening and demanding money from the Government? They were fighting for freedom and not money! The projects that are being started will benefit everyone and even decrease the poverty rate  instead of just making war veterans richer.
– JP Shemuketa

Education
*EDUCATION is a tripartite relationship but parental involvement at schools is seriously lacking.Yet parents, especially those not paying school fees attending parent meetings and school events, are quick to air their grievances through the media. Dear parents you are not only failing and shaming the schools but your children. For starters do come to DBHS. Problem solved!

*THE Faculty of Law at Unam does not teach Latin but some students are tested in this language in your tests. Why is this done?

*THANK you Mr Awaseb for giving us voters interesting information at the VTC. Your team was educative and we would like to hear you again.
– Concerned VTC SRC member

General
Can’t do without.
*RENTAL for private post boxes has gone up by 10 % to N$220 per year. Can’t the old age pension also be increased by 10 % per year please?

*TO the organisers of Hage’s birthday bash; please contact Gender Equality and Child Welfare before money is dished out to the orphanage. Is it registered?

*WE would like to know what happened to the Government’s proposal about the basic income grant or extra N$100. Can there be some feedback on this? Thanks.

In and From the Regions
*WE here in Oshikoto Region appeal to the Ministry of Health to fumigate mosquitoes before the rain starts. We really suffered last season; day and night.

*I WANT to hear from the Walvis Bay Municipality and NamWater how far they are with the borehole pipe that has brought inconvenience to the town for the three past years. We are tired of this. It is time for these two entities to work on this issue while the river is dry.

*PLEASE Hardap Governor we need a good road from Kalkrand to Hoachanas. This area needs to be developed. Please do something. Our new cars are about to become like old cars.
– Kamure

*WHAT happened to the Swakopmund State Hospital dentist? It is now the second month I still have a painful tooth.

City Fathers Please...
*CITY of Windhoek please stop Panorama Supermarket in Khomasdal from making fire all day to clean offal against the fence of the business. They have a take-away. There are flies everywhere and it’s in a residential area. We have sinus and we have to live between the stink of the river and this unhygienic practice. It makes us sick!

*CITY of Windhoek can’t you erect proper speed bumps at the intersection of Kroon and Mahatma Gandhi streets in Khomasdal. Traffic, especially taxis, simply ignores that four-way stop sign. Must someone die before you do something about it?
– Concerned Khomasdaller

Responses to recent SMSes
*WHY do people generalise? Not all Government employees wear jeans. Anyway and the private sector? They are allowed and that is not a problem? We should not discriminate.

*TO the citizen who is complaining about the Government employees who wear jeans on Fridays. A jeans don’t do the job. Concentrate on productive things, not people’s jeans.

*THANKS The Namibian that we can participate in the ‘Jeans Day’ for Government employees? As a Government employee I’m not aware of that. Dear writer I’m productive whether Friday or Monday. Are you? Do not generalise please. Stick to facts and positive things. Then you will see the world as a better place.

*I DON’t think it’s the traffic cops’ fault that more accidents happen on our roads. As drivers with good morals we should learn to control our behaviour when driving because we all know the right and wrong. At least my friends and I drive by the rules just to save lives. Why not all of us?
– Dux

*I DON’T believe this! Somebody actually telling the SPCA that they must give advice on how to control barking dogs! There is either something wrong with your dog or with you! How come other people can control their dogs? Get real and stop this selfish, couldn’t care less attitude! Dogs barking is a pain for some people just like loud music heavy traffic etc is to others!
