VIPs and their drivers should respect other road users. Traffic rules apply to you as well, especially no overtaking road signs. Stop driving us taxpayers off the road!
ROAD Authorities, isn’t it possible to get ALL drivers to switch on the headlights of their vehicles 24/7? Why? The driver of every car is much more aware of oncoming traffic, and the distance of the oncoming car, and can thus estimate much more accurately whether to overtake or rather wait if the headlights are on. Many drivers think that the headlights will use energy but they do not! Many accidents can be avoided by this.
Note: You are absolutely correct in your view. We have in fact written editorials in the past requesting that this be done. – News desk
DID you know. Namibian parents can give their children things such as money, cars, cellphones and expensive gifts; everything except discipline.

CONGRATULATIONS Evilastus Kaaronda for retaining your (National Union of Namibian Workers) Secretary General position. You are a visionary leader. Deliver us to the island of better working conditions.
– Duma, Omusati
THANKS to the delegates who at the congress called the NUNW leadership to rejoin BIG (Basic Income Grant). It was a shame for NUNW to withdraw and Government, especially our President, to support such a move forgetting that Government too depends on donors. Who’s fooling who?
HOME Affairs, thanks. I got my passport within two weeks after application date (and without paying a bribe). I was surprised because they even called to inform me it is ready for collection.
- Poyi, Buchter Nr 1
CABINET thank you for your wise decision on the issue of the Polytechnic name change. This country still needs plenty of artisans and journeymen which the Poly has failed to produce so far.
I JUST want to say well done to the cashiers at Engen Quickshop Otjiwarongo. They serve with a smile and say thanks to all. I didn’t even buy anything. I just exchanged cash and I got a warm Namibian smile and thank you from the lady. God bless you.
– Jouky, Tsumeb
MR (Christof) Maletsky keep yourself away from national days for all I care. Whether you attend or not nothing changes.
‘NDESHI & Jakes’ smoking rights: about the most irresponsible comment yet! But then its become typical of The Namibian...
I AM shocked by how low my Government can go with the President to appoint Governors. My understanding was that they nominated and elected each other, as various constituency councillors, to have a chairperson and a management committee just like in local authorities. Why should the President appoint? That’s not democratic.
THE Namibian Newspaper does a lot in educating the nation but lacks the ability to give balanced reporting on political issues.

FRIDAY’S story by Stephen Hawking that God did not create the universe, what a waste of intelligence. Can he tell us how the ‘Big Bang’ came about?
FINALLY seeing the face of The Namibian (staff at work) other than GL, having read about the trials and tribulations of the paper in its infancy and growth, finally understanding or beginning to understand its contribution to the birth of a free Namibia (your commitment was/is simply heroic) a cynic like myself had to battle not to get overly emotional through sheer patriotism! All the best!
SINCE when was the system of paying all fees before the third term introduced in Ekulo? Our parents were not informed about it at the beginning of the year. People are not the same. Not all of us can finish paying so early. You were supposed to give us our testimonials. You delayed us!
MINISTRY of Education there is no point building new schools if existing schools aren’t maintained. Budget for maintenance of existing structures.
EDUCATION Minister please help us. Teachers are campaigning for the next local authority council in Otavi. They make up 95 per cent on the nomination list. What will happen to our kids as they will travel with Council affairs leaving our kids?
CAN someone tell me why some of the private clinics charge doctor’s fees even though the patient did not consult. Do scheduled immunisations require doctor’s prescription? If yes is the doctor not obliged to see the patient first?
MR Tom Saintfiet stop blaming the Namibia Football Association and start selecting better players. Why can’t you give the players who are playing in the Angolan league a chance because as those players are still busy with their league they are still fit. Selecting unfit players will always give us bad results. We want to qualify. NFA please do something.
– Paoli!
GIBEON flooded with blocked drain water for more then 20 years, roads in a bad state, village council staff on S&T trips. Now we have a ecological disaster in the Fish River thanks to our competent village council!

I HAVE alerted the senior officer of Erongo Red in Omaruru that electricity in Hakahana is distributed illegally. Yet he wants me to go to his office; for what?
Note: Maybe it would be helpful if you could communicate the information you have so that they can follow up? – Newsdesk
CAN you believe it? The Ministry of Youth in Keetmanshoop has been without a telephone from August 16 until today. No fax, no copy paper. What a shame.
CAN the Office of the Prime Minister amend the Public Service Act to make provision for the civil servants who are still smoking in Government buildings and make them liable for misconduct.
DEAR Richard Kamwi what difference is there between poisoning someone and having unprotected sex while having HIV? But you are quick to ban smoking in public. Why can you not make a law for those who have unprotected sex while the are HIV positive?
NBC do something. There has been no coverage in Gobabis from Wednesday.
The TV transmission loss in Gobabis was reported on Wednesday, 1 September and has already been attended to. Residents in Gobabis got their TV transmission back the following day (Thursday). If you nonetheless still fail to get the signal, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr J Bauer at (061) 2912172. Thank you for keeping us up to date.
NBC should scrap income estimates that include TV licence revenue because it only ups wrong gross income expectations and this is not healthy for the NBC main sponsor (the taxed licensee). However the NBC board should make sure no job losses will affect its members since we are so far doing well at this advanced stage of extra income generating – our third phase of this kind
–Papuky
The NBC is operating on business principles just like any other corporate body. As such, the process of forecasting what revenue can be derived for the TV Licence Operations section, for example, is of paramount importance. These revenue estimates will provide the NBC with a clearer picture of what income can be expected over a certain period of time and it will also allow the NBC to plan properly.
NBC and ONE AFRICA we congratulate you for the updated programmes that you broadcast. But when it comes to music, to the music industry, you are so behind. We love our Namibian music that you present but we also need to know about the music industry in other countries. For example we had KMT and Channel O, but you stopped broadcasting it. Please do something about that. It’s boring not knowing what’s happening outside our country.
Yes indeed we have given preference to our local artists and have created different local programmes to give them a platform to showcase their music. It is also important, as you have mentioned, to keep the public up to date with the international music industry; however, we were unfortunately unable to obtain the broadcasting rights for the programmes that you mentioned (Channel O and KMT). We are currently looking at other ways of getting international music on TV in the near future.
NBC please consider to air on ‘Talk of The Nation’ the pros and cons of sound pollution, its effect on social values, health aspects, its overall impact.
Thank you for your contribution, it has been forwarded to the Executive Producer and her team. If time allows, she will incorporate your idea.

NAMIBIAN men and affairs. Of course don’t get married before you are ready. But if you are tired of your wife, don’t keep her trusting you while you go looking for others. Don’t bring risk to the innocent ones.
I AGREE with ‘someone who appreciates good service’. Try Jet Store Walvis Bay. Used to be my favourite shop. Cannot stand and wait at unmanned tills. Pity!
DEAR reader there is a special place in my heart for outdated newspapers. I can accommodate them. K’rrim 081-372-3752.
