SMSes for Thursday 2 September 2010

* THE National Union of Namibian Workers’ congress needs to discuss the GIPF and BIG issues. Union bosses need to grow some backbone and serve union members and not politicians’ interests!

Food for Thought
* WHY don’t all working Nam-ibians contribute N$20 the MVA Fund on a compulsory basis? It’s good sustaining the fund that helps every Namibian involved in a motor accident. Mr Katjiruru what do you think?

Happy 25th Birthday
* THE Namibian lived by its principles during its birthday celebrations. Not only were we, the readers, treated to a free magazine and stickers, but our hardworking newspaper sellers are now all sporting brand new T-shirts. Thanks to all for your years of commitment and dedication.

* MS Gwen Lister and the rest of your formidable team did magnificiently for the Namibians before Independence and over the past 20 years of Independence. Fake praise aside, your heroic deeds, in comparison to the deeds of some of those who are praised daily in Namibia, rank much higher. You could not have achieved this had you chosen to hide or cave in due to pressure from colonialists.

Bouquets and Brickbats
* BRIGITTE (Weidlich) applause for your efforts to rescue our future president (Kazenambo) Kazenambo!

* DESPITE the unfortunate situation in Munich, I pledge support for Minister (Kazenambo) Kazenambo for he is one of the best leaders in the Land of the Brave.

* THE jacket in the Mazda saga is a real feel-good story!

* I’D like to thank The Namibian for putting in the booklet ‘Independence Has Come’. It teaches us ‘born-frees’ all about the past and helps us acknowledge our heroes.
– Nicha

* CONTRASTING beautiful Namibia – the Founding President makes me feel brave and puts me in a fighting mood in whatever I’m doing while the incumbent President makes me feel peaceful, restful and puts me into a scrupulous mood in whatever I’m doing.
– Tate Mnamwilwa

* HAVE just visited Swakopmund Home Affairs office. Clean, good service and friendly staff. Well done from a normally critical customer. Well pleased for a change.

* THUMBS up for the police officers who worked during the Heroes Day holiday at Kalkfeld. Hope you do the same work again.

* CONGRATULATIONS to Phillemon Mwalima for his award received on Heroes Day. You are a true hero!

* THAT was a good comparison of prices. Now tell us how much The Namibian charges for adverts and the selling price of the paper.

* DEAR editor, please use the word ‘organic’ wisely. Organic refers to agriculture without artificial supplements. In yesterday’s newspaper Etunda claimed to be ‘organic’ and that is not true. For more detailed info please contact me.
– Dirk, Namibia Organic Association

* KATUTURA hospital needs to be closed. How can you have sick people in there in the state that it is in with cockroaches, rats. No bedding whatsoever. When last was there an inspection done at the hospital? Maintenance? Why do we pay our taxes? So that Ministers can buy new cars, build state houses instead of taking care of the people of Naminbia. What about the rest of the nation!

* PLEASE Namibians and our leaders can’t we talk about things without mentioning the liberation struggle! Move on!

* I’VE been a fan of ‘Ndeshi & Jakes’ since I was small but lately it’s just quite simply lame and it’s not even funny anymore. Basically it sucks.
– Bonyas

* CRY the beloved country. When a state cannot protect her citizens who are most vulnerable, it should be regarded as a failed state.

And Justice for All
* OUTJO court how could a person be given periodical imprisonment for assaulting another with a bottle while having a previous conviction. What is this justice system coming to! This same person is back a few days later with another assault case?

In and From the Regions
* TO the Councillor of Rundu Rural West. When is this township going to be electrified? Why can’t the Councillor ask NORED to erect transformers in the streets of the township for people to have access to electricity?

* ROGER Kambatuku do something about football in Okahandja please.

* PLEASE (Minister of Local Government) Jerry (Ekandjo) come to Walvis Bay. The council is denying opportunities to upgrade the town. Look at Swakopmund.

* WHAT’S up with the Town Council of Rundu? They must take a look at the beach. It’s very dirty. Please take a look. We need a clean place.

* WHEN will the Bwabwata hunting resume? Also will the shooting of the four elephants in August take place as promised or not because now it is September? Please Minister of Environment and Tourism do something for the sake of the residents or as per Government policy.

* SOME schools in Okatyali constituency are without electricity. Ministry of Energy do something please.
– Comrade Ndavulwa.

* THE Tsumkwe kapana area looks unsafe. It is an open place where people make their kapana. The wind blows rubbish and dust around the place. Sometimes some customers don’t want to buy kapana. What should we do about this in future?
– Nico Nicolas WKD Zimon, Tsumkwe

Health Matters
* WE need more doctors and nurses at Gobabis because on the night shift the doctor must be called from his home. What if something happens to a patient while they are waiting for the doctor?

Running the Show
* PLEASE Namibian Government start collecting VAT from China Town. We are shopping there from Monday to Sunday. You make our country poor with your poor legislation and collection systems.
– EKU

Education
* PLEASE Dr Abraham Iyambo try to visit Khoichas School in Keetmanshop in Karas Region. Our children are suffering in the hostel and at school, their clothes and blankets are not washed. Children need to be taken care of always. Kids are crying that there is not enough food, no balanced diet and that they are beaten. Please Minister take action now.

* MINISTER of Education all schools in rural areas qualified for hardship incentives whether they are primary or secondary schools.

* UNAM tells us the money left from our loans after tuition fees is going back to the Ministry, while the Ministry says we should be refunded every cent left – yet there is nothing being done. Polytech is refunding every cent left. Why is the money not going back to the Ministry also? Minister Abraham Iyambo please write a letter to instruct Unam to refund our full amounts. Media please intervene. Find out for us what the case really is.
– Fed up students.

* MR Abraham Iyambo we Grade 10 students at A Shipena SS have to attend school during the holidays from 07h00 until 17h00 but teachers don’t arrive on time plus only some arrive at all.

* GOODNESS. Oshigambo High School principal and your staff don’t consider the learners at all. This phone ban is ridiculous! Not all parents agreed to this.

* WE the matriculants at Ekulo are delayed from applying for our bursaries and to the institutions just because of the printer that was broken. We have heard it is fixed but we didn’t get our reports. When are we going to do all that if we are starting with our oral exams on the 7th.
– Disappointed

Labour Issues
* BEWARE of the unions. There are members who use their union as a tool to mercilessly hunt and kill their prey against whom they have personal grievances instead of using it to protect the rights of their fellow workers.

NBC
* REQUEST: NBC can you please have Minister Kazenambo and the German ambassador plus any other activists on your next ‘Talk of the Nation’ programme.

Lost and Found
* MY name is Marta Pecchi. I lost my Italian documents. If found contact me on this number 081-329-3863.

* MR LN NAKAMWE I picked up your documents. Call 081-242-0606.

Responses to recent SMSes
* I DON’T have a problem with cheap fake whisky, only with outlets selling at nearly 100 per cent more than others. We already have fake vodka and schnapps on the market in Swakop.

* THE settlement office in Ariamsvlei said there are no erven available. But how will the town develop? Please service the erven and sell them. Do not freeze applications.

* RESIDENTS of Grootfontein, it’s not up to the Mayor alone to develop your town. Stop being in bars 24/7 and give ideas as well. How can you be helped if most of you are forever drinking? I’ve seen many people going to have a drink in their lunch hour! Yes the Mayor must take much action as well. But can the residents please stop with alcohol abuse and the school girls please leave the soldiers alone. Let us help ourselves first.
