SMSes for Friday 3 September 2010

SMS Of The Day

PEOPLE want to be elected as councillors only for money but not for development of the region or town!

Food for Thought

I’M excited by the Stand Up campaign. I would like to encourage the organisers not only to discourage alcohol use and close shebeens but also to offer fun alcohol-free social events or even clubs.

Happy 25th Birthday

I THINK President H Pohamba and Dr Sam Nujoma declined The Namibian newspaper’s invitation because of the ban which Government has on the paper. They would have contradicted themselves had they accepted. Nevertheless Happy 25th Birthday.

– Tuhafeni.

CONGRATULATIONS to The Namibian newspaper you come long way.

– Kandishishi, Outapi.

I THANK Gwen Lister for publishing many stories concerning the rights of people. Those who hate her are blind and lead people to corruption. They are hiding the truth and lying to the nation with empty promises. Viva Gwen Lister continue like that. Madam thanks a lot.

– Reader of The Namibian. Thanks.

HAPPY Birthday the people’s newspaper. Keep ‘telling like it is’.

– Hukus

FROM The Namibian history until today Gwen is a heroine. Let her be buried at Heroes Acre.

– Ndjaba, Ongha

Bouquets and Brickbats

EDITOR your ‘From the archives’ is my best read on Wednesdays. We must be reminded of how we gained Independence and the role of the press in getting us to where we are today. Thank you for the painful yet needed reminders on Wednesdays.

– HJV

THANKS to The Namibian team the jacket got the owner. The Namibian of September 1.

WOW. All that one hears is Chinese this or that. It was great to read in The Namibian of a donation of N$15 000 to the Tsumeb community organisation from Ms Stina, the Managing Director of a Chinese company, Galaxy Shopping Mall. God bless.

I AM only stating what I have observed in the past two months. Coastal High learners you are changing for the better. No fights after school. No more massive late-coming. I hope for the results also to improve. Good luck.

HEAVY duty open trucks transporting sand and stone are the cause of two windscreen losses and damage to my car. All over the world open trucks have to cover such contents with tarpaulins to minimise danger to other road users. The road from Aris to Windhoek is in question.

QUITE a number of Kenyans were appreciative when nearly a whole page was dedicated to them on September 1. However how many Kenyans around speak Oshiwambo? If you would print the page in English I am certain they would love that. Thanks.

GREAT story on Oshakati State Hospital but let the readers see the other side of the coin. The Oshakati Town Council charges the residents to collect rubbish every month yet they do not supply us with refuse bins. And as neighbours to the state hospital we have to drive past stinking refuse every day. Please send your reporter to photograph this disgrace and get comment from the Oshakati Town Council. Countless phone calls have had no result.

POINT of correction (The Namibian ; 1 / 9/2010 p . 7): the Oshiwambo word for marula oil is not ojove as was written. The correct word is ONDJOVE.

– Omupopi wOshiwambo

TO the driver of N130-658W. Please learn the rules of the road dear sir! You are not allowed to overtake on a solid line before a blind rise in a residential area! Your unlawful act put my life, your life and the lives of the children you were travelling with in danger. Be cautious and considerate of other drivers. The road belongs to us all. Its not yours to do with as you please. – Concerned road user.

COULD The Namibian please find a place to keep their returned newspapers or rather allow employees to throw them away! We are tired of newspapers occupying our spaces in our homes!

IS it professionalism or diplomacy or charity to distribute blankets when winter is over? Come on Red Cross act on time.

Politics

RALLY for Democracy and Progress of Namibia please join your colleagues in Parliament as soon as possible. The eight seats you obtained from us as voters was a blessing. But now you let some MPs go hungry due to the Supreme Court verdict announcement. You are wasting expensive time. Follow DTA’s example. Change your mind. Time-wasting is money wasting.

– The Voice of Voiceless

Business as Usual

IS there no way the Development Bank of Namibia could sponsor anyone to give DStv some competition. Please we are tired of repeats and channels I never watch.

General

OTWEYA magazine was first printed by me in 1998. Therefore it and the Otweya Times newspaper were not founded by HH or RDP as many people are saying.

– JD Hatutale

In and From the Regions

GOVERNOR of KAVANGO Region when will you give us feedback on power shortage at Omega Clinic, police station and Government resettlement and youth office?

I WANT the Ongwediva Town Councillors to make a correction of the town logo which shows the face of a leopard (etotongwe) not of a cheetah (ongwe).

– Jason A

TO the Minister of Tourism. It’s time to take the Doro Nawas Conservancy complaints seriously.

THE service of Erongo Red in Usakos is pathetic. Electricity is very expensive but the service we receive is very poor. The power goes on and off at random damaging electrical appliances. Sometimes it goes on and off as if a child is playing with the switch. We need better service. We do not pay for our appliances be damaged. We need qualified electricians because it is getting worse. Give us at least one qualified electrician or give the function back to municipalities if you can not cope.

ERONGO Red, from paying an average of N$600 a month I must now pay N$1 000 a month after your insane price increase. You are nothing but a money-making scheme. Electricity is most expensive in the Erongo Region since Erongo Red was established. The municipalities should take back the provision of electricity

WE learners at Oshitudha Combined School need electricity.

HOW are we supposed to live nowadays? How we go for three days without bathing and eating because of no water? What does the Municipality think of us.

– Concerned in Ondangwa.

ONDANGWA Town Council what do you think of your customers being without water for two days? It’s about time to vote correctly.

MR Tshekutamba Councillor of Etayi Constituency in which year will we receive electricity at our small town at Omavella. We need new developments. We walk long distances to use the electricity from Otshikuku and at Okando village; we need to start our businesses. Please try to help your nation.

– Untacca Saccky, Okathima area.

And Justice for All

OVERSEAS if one has unprotected sex while having HIV it is a crime. Why is it not the case in Namibia? Please Government do something.

Law and Order

KLEINE Kuppe and many other spots must be declared as no-go areas. If nothing is done to stop the criminals our own homes will become no-go areas.

Health Matters

DEAR PS of the Ministry of Health please find out for us why the Kunene Regional Office hasn’t been able to give us our overtime since April? We’ve written a letter to you already but still no change. Please help us.

(HEALTH Minister) Dr Kamwi please help us women to access family planning tablets easily. I’m a breastfeeding mother I went to the R Mugabe Clinic and the nurse said I should only come get them during my menstrual period. Should I continue to have more children whom I cannot afford to care for.

– EG

City Fathers Please

CITY Police boss you got new cars just recently. Sell one or two and buy horses for your unit if you really mean to do your job!

– Papuky

CITY Police I’m one of the people who applied months ago? When will the shortlisted candidate be announced?

NBC

NBC Oshiwambo Service how can we start Open Learning. We want you to give feedback to the nation.

Education

DON’T blame Education Regions but our regional officers who are the problem.

DEAR Unam lecturers why are you sending our books and assignments late without even officially extending the due dates. Can you please improve your administration.

– Concerned Labour Study Student in Gobabis.

DEAR Dr Abraham please rescue library science Unam graduates who are unemployed.

I AM a concerned parent from 5Rand Camp Okahandja. Our kids are still being sent back without being given their progress reports. Please Minister Iyambo come and have a meeting with us. We are suffering here.

IT is so sad when you come across either an Oshiwambo, Nama-Damara or Herero parent who is proud that his/her child speaks fluent Afrikaans; but can’t even say a single word in their vernacular. We should know that the mother tongue is the concrete foundation of all learning.

– M’mbala “Petre”yaKatonyala, Ondjabaalala.

Labour Issues

IT is a shocking shame that the unions now have to take the lead to hold GIPF trustees accountable. It only shows the level of corruption we have become used to – not one person actually responsible will lift a finger. And shame on our Government for condoning such blatant corruption. It appears you can only be judged by history.

NAMIBIAN workers’ unions should learn how to serve the interests of their people. Not be in it not for the position only. The question to them is would they be interested in those positions if the offers were like those of cleaners and clerks.

Service Please

HOME Affairs passport division please answer that ‘thing’ that is ringing. Three days and no answer.

THE Minister of Home Affairs claimed that passports take about two weeks to process. I am waiting more than two months now. What a poor service.

THE ATM at Ariamsvlei is useless. It is often off at month end. This is a border town – we need a bank, not an ATM.

WE want quality customer service and respect when we shop at Shoprite in Mariental. Thank you.

FNB Ondangwa improve your service. We are tired of spending time in long queues.

– Unhappy citizen.

KATIMA Mulilo FNB improve your ATM system.

TO Standard Bank Namibia why are there no mini-ATMs for Standard Bank in shops countrywide? When is the cellphone banking going to be introduced?

– Concerned customer, Mariental.

ON Saturday mornings at month end, and on Sundays, Ackermans in Swakopmund has only one cashier. At Clicks you don’t get a fright when you see a long queue as four staff all waiting to serve you. Well done to them.

– Someone who appreciates good service

DO banks have their customer interests at heart? If so what do they look at when they check what a client qualifies for in terms of home loans if we managed to pay rents of N$1 600? Especially FNB and Standard Bank.

Responses to recent SMSes

From the NBC

REQUEST: NBC can you please have Minister Kazenambo and the German ambassador plus any other activists on your next ‘Talk of The Nation’ programme.

Our various Current Affairs programmes have focused on this specific topic already and have given it a lot of coverage. The two governments are currently working on the way forward.

Next week, ‘Talk of the Nation’ will be looking at the 5th NUNW congress. We hope that this will also be of interest to you. Feel free to participate in our discussion at 21H00.

Thank You

BEING in the aviation industry, I would like to reply to the SMS of September 1. It is not the flight that is overpriced but Namibian Airports Company that is overcharging the passenger. NAC is ripping passengers off with bad service, unwelcoming airport, overpriced duty free shop and restaurant, and yes, it is you, dear passenger, paying for this and NAC’s fat cats salaries!

WHAT is it with Namibian men? They never get enough of their married women, then turn to affairs, and, in the process, destroy many peoples’ lives. If you know you are not ready, don’t get married.
