Food for Thought
FIDDLE while Rome is burning. Wise judgements have been remembered in history. Will Namibia be remembered for having tinkered with technicalities while the future of the country and the spirit of democracy were at stake?
ALCOHOL has engulfed our nation, even funerals have become drinking platforms. This nation need deliverance.
Bouquets and Brickbats
MR Chris Smith I think you should join the legal team of the nine opposition parties because your argument is so valid. I hope this time around their case will heard on a different note. Viva democracy.
– King, Walvis Bay
CHRIS Smith is right on the money. If the registrar is entitled to use her discretion to accept a late application and deems the circumstances sufficient to warrant such an exception, it is a clear cop-out by the judges to nullify her decision and render a case of such importance to be invalid. The case was properly before court by virtue of her decision. A judgement should be made on the merits of the case itself. The Supreme Court must pronounce on this matter.
Columnist Bob Kandetu
MR (Bob) Kandetu, after reading “My Hero...” I must say I am impressed. The NBC should never have let a man of your moral integrity go. Continue to shame the corrupt elite by being a man of honour.
– Fan.
EISH...brother Bob Kandetu, you captured me with your article ‘My Hero Is On The Street’. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Indeed amazing and food for thought. God bless the young man and you, bro Bob!
CHRISTOF (MALETSKY), YOU missed or totally forgot about an arts and culture ministry in your new Cabinet, the backbone of the nation.
THANKS Dudley for the picture on Okahandja, the self proclaimed garden town which has downgraded itself to Namibia’s garbage town!
Man of the Cloth
I WOULD like to know Dr (Abisai) Shejavali’s basis for his assertion that Ovangandjeras and Ovakwambis are dominating other tribes politically. I tried to go through the Cabinet and Parliament but couldn’t find evidence for the doctor’s assertions. I even looked at the whole of Omusati Region but failed to notice anything. Business is a different matter altogether as the whole Namibian market is dominated by less than 10 businesses which are not owned by Ovangandjeras and Ovakwambis. Perhaps Dr Shejavali could tell us the secret of his research regarding his letter.
THE Reverend did not curse our country! He just stated a fact that Namibia is becoming a second Zimbabwe. I agree because our leaders follow the leader of that country.
DR Shejavali has displayed his naked tribalism. His message and that of Nyamu are the same. How can a respected leader join the chain of rumours and sing Nyamu’s hate speech. Dr Shejavali, you lost what little moral cover you had. You now take your rightful place in hall of shame alongside with other well-known tribalists.
DR Shejavali we Namibians do not want to be divided by you as an individual. Leave the people of Ongandjera and Uukwambi alone. Are they not deserving of becoming town’s CEOs?
– Nano
IS Dr Shejavali a religious leader or tribal priest. He must know that God is not a tribalist – whose message is Dr Shejavali preaching? Beware in the last days they will come to you preaching confusing messages. Truly the trees are known by their fruits. We now know Dr Shejavali by his tribal fruits.
SHEJAVALI must think about what he is doing to this nation. He is compromising our peace and stability and he must be called to order please. It’s too much to insult the majority of this country.
– F Shilongo, Ongwediva
Election Challenge
THE judgement given in the election challenge case was shocking to say the least. Instead of looking at the merits of the case the judges simply chose an easy way out by dismissing the case on technical grounds. Why agree to listen to a case that was submitted late? By the way how does the ruling vindicate the ECN?
I REQUEST the opposition to publish their findings on the ECN. At least then we, the public, can decide whether there is a case or not.
I AM the opinion that the Registrar and the High Court must share the costs as well as explain to Namibians why they received (documents) and went ahead to set hearing dates and even heard arguments, and eventually allowed costs to mature just to nullify the case ‘with costs’ at the end.
THE nine opposition parties are a disgrace to the Namibian people. Most of your followers have lost confidence in you! If you are incapable of handling a court case like this, how will you be able govern this country on you own?
THE Namibian, educate us, how long did the opposition have to lodge their papers?
AN acute analysis of the verdict must be done to understand technicalities linked to such sensitive cases in a Supreme Court. This time around the parties and the lawyers should be vigilant not to be caught in the same trap.
MR Justice Damaseb I think that you took the right decision as the Judge President. You preserve the rules and regulations which the opposition would’ve liked you to ignore!
– C Tiboth.
I AM very worried about Namibia and the leadership, including the judges of our beautiful country, in reference to these court cases. Please all church leaders make it a priority in your churches to pray for our political leaders.
BECAUSE of 90 minutes Namibians will never know the truth.
WHEREAS the opposition parties case was struck off from the roll one is bound to take it as such. However elections are a matter of nationwide concern and caused an outcry. On that perhaps Section 109 of the Electoral Act should be revisited to afford ample time to procedurally correct the situation. Section 109 is unconstitutional as 30 days are not enough for an important matter like elections.
Education
TEACHERS please stop putting the blame on parents for not assisting our kids, we do. In previous years our parents were not literate, but we were doing better because the teachers were doing their job. Today’s teachers are only concerned about salaries and working hours. Wake up and do what you have chosen to be your career. We the parents entrust you to do what our teachers did with us. Stop blaming parents, we are doing our part.
IF it is the plight of the parent to teach their children then why do we have teachers? Why do they let us pay SDF and turn away children whose SDF is not paid? Let there be no more teachers! They’re just there to rob us poor parents’ hard earned money under the pretence of ‘teaching’ which are left to the parents to do it themselves at the end of the day!
AT secondary school the symbol distribution is still used. A=80%, F=30%. At the ruling of JSC results and in primary school they make a mockery of the symbols!
TEACHERS at Amunganda CS, stop suspending/expelling learners unnecessarily. . You are ruining our kids’ education so learn to keep personal issues at home.
–Fed up parent!
PLEASE help fellow Namibians, we registered at the Otjiwarongo Unam centre for local government studies. We haven’t yet received our economics and statistics and numeracy study material. When we enquire we are told to call Windhoek. When we call we are just transferred from one office to the other until our credit is used up. We really don’t know what to do. Please anyone with advice help us!
Politics in General
I AM very disappointed by the Zimbabwean High Comissioner singing and showing Swapo slogans in the court instead of thinking of us Zimbabwean youth in the streets of Namibia selling DVDs, mops and brooms. Shame on you for not even thinking of us who go with hunger to bed in a foreign country.
Adults Only
IT’S shocking that anybody in his or her right mind even starts considering the idea of adding a porn programme on DStv. It’s totally insane. We need not even discuss this issue. Or is this an early April Fools joke? It stinks.
– //Hoebeb.
MS (Marlene) Mungunda, this is a free Namibia! If you and others are not interested in an adult channel, watch NBC all day! We are responsible adults who are paying for what we want, surely there will be a pin access!
DSTV is a paid channel. If I decide to buy adult or pornography channel for my own private viewing why should anyone have a problem with it? It’s my money. What happened to freedom of choice? And democracy? Namibia get real and Honourable Minister of Gender you can be against it but I am for it. That’s what democracy and freedom of choice in Namibia is all about.
MULTICHOICE do you just give viewers all the rubbish they like? Don’t bring ‘adult content’ to our nation! Do you even care?
n MULTICHOICE don’t plunge our nation into pornography, things are bad enough as it is.We are a Christian nation!
A Place to Call Home
MINISTRY of Education. Please increase our home loan amount from N$300 000 to N$500 000. Or build government flats for teachers. We can’t afford to buy or rent those houses in Khomasdal, Rocky Crest etc. Please answer my request.
MINISTRY of Education, we need government flats in Katutura. Our money is not enough to buy houses. Please build teachers flats in Windhoek.
– Homeless teacher.
BANKS don’t give a damn - Earning 5000p/m you qualify for a home loan of N$115 000 and at an interest rate of 11,75 per cent. You end up paying N$185 000 in interest charges and a total repayment of N$300 000 in 240 instalments of N$1 250 at a repayment to income ratio of 25 per cent.
Running the Show
I AM appealing to the Ministry of Safety, Ohangwena, to arrest the mentally disturbed man at Epatululo village. Or are you waiting for somebody to die for you to act?
MINISTRY of Youth, the Kai//ganagab Training Centre has been without a Head of Centre for almost four years.
DOES the PS in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration ever notice the escalating public complaints at ports? Both locals and visitors have concerns. We hear numerous defensive statements from the said office. Does the PS rely on some of his management cadre for reports? We ask the PS to please visit your borders and ports. Consult officials on the ground not necessarily those in charge.
Taxi Talk
CAN somebody please assist with contact details for the Namibia Bus and Taxi Association (Nabta). Thanks.
– You can reach Nabta’s office administrator on 081-259-5926.
– Newsdesk
NABTA please let us know how much school going kids must pay because my deaf daughter of 10 years was chased out of the taxi because she paid only N$6 and she had to walk a long way from the point where she was dropped off. Is it fair towards a deaf child or doesn’t the driver have kids?
In and From the Regions
CAN’T public lectures by the Prime Minister (Nahas Angula) and other ministers be done in other towns apart from Windhoek. The PM has conducted two of them in the past two months. We are also interested.
City Fathers Please...
CITY of Windhoek police, traffic enforcement. Your service is weak, we have a lot of overloading here. Please also check the way the security companies are transporting people.
Labour Issues
Etosha
NWR Etosha National Park please employ people from Etosha. Stop employing people from outside, especially at Halali. We applied twice but none of us were appointed. We have certificates in hospitality. Please do something MD of Namibia Wildlife Resorts.
– Hai//om youth of Etosha
MINISTRY of Labour or anyone please help me. Is it possible to include Sundays in the basic salary because where I work they are saying the basic salary includes Sundays. So we are working Sundays for nothing ? I really don’t understand. Contact Helena 081-361-0192.
General
CAN someone tell me where to go to get fishing rights, licences for diamond cutting and polishing and share holding etc? Because the way I see it, only certain individuals know where and how to get that information.
I DON’T understand our government. What is the difference between an orphan whose parents died abroad and those whose parents died in the country? Why you are you not treating us the same way? Most people who benefit in our country are ex combatants and their children. When are you going to consider us?
WHY did we donate money to Haiti but not to Chile?
I DON’T think it’s a problem if people use cars with steering wheels on either side.
– Tshekupe
Service Please
FNB should change its slogan to ‘how can we frustrate you’. No money at certain ATMs over weekends and Monday mornings.
PLEASE MTC, do something about your network reception at Otjorute, Otjekua and Etoto, we can’t make/receive calls/SMSes any longer! MTC do something please, please!
NBC
I AM Shocked by overtime claims at NBC. The manager for finance must be dismissed with immediate effect. This is ridiculous.
NBC why don’t you send your directors and managers to One Africa TV, where only a few people work and still deliver a better service, to get some tips how to run a TV station.
NBC Otjiherero Radio News. Those who read the news should be careful when reading numbers. Ovandu omirongo vitano na umwe not na imwe. This should come naturally for an adult or is the news read by children? No, the NBC should have auditions.
Sporting
EVERYBODY likes their sport, but please whoever it is, look at all sports, not only football or boxing or athletics or swimming. What about us who like tennis, cricket, golf and squash? Please give a chance to all.
– Leonard Ndjebela Tshivute, Grootfontein
Various Responses
REGARDING the SMS on March 5 about the unnecessary cutting down of a beautiful fig tree at the new Leo offices in Robert Mugabe Ave. The entrance it was cut down to make way for has been closed for about a month, so it seems the tree was cut down for nothing. Not only was it a landmark, it provided shade for pedestrians. When will developers, contractors and their clients learn to value our precious environment? Shame on them!
