SMSes for Wednesday 28 July 2010

SMS Of The Day n ACCENT and pronunciation are two different concepts. We have different accents due to our mother tongues. However, anyone who is taught a new language must be taught the correct pronunciation of words! In ANY language, mispronunciation leads to misunderstandings.

Food for Thought
n WE Namibians are very good at talking. Sometimes we should just keep quiet. Actions speak louder than words. Take the example of the Veterans’ Ministry which was created just after the veterans themselves stood up to find out what would happen to them. Now you to talk of tenders awarded to Chinese and many other things. Who do you think will listen to you? Of course not our Government. You will send SMSes to The Namibian newspaper till you run out of airtime. Empty vessels make the most noise. If we can’t take any action then let’s stop otherwise it’s time and money-wasting through SMSes.

Bouquets
and Brickbats
n A HOTLINE phone number where we can lay complaints against taxis. What a great idea!

n WELL done Comrade Prime Minister (Nahas Angula) on TESEF. We must stop copying and pasting from SA. This is the Land of the Brave.
– Kaniita
n OVER the past few months I’ve had numerous dealings with the Government Medical Aid Fund (PSEMAS). I would hereby like to thank the staff at head office for the consistently friendly, efficient and professional service that I received every time. Thanks guys. Do keep up your high standards!

Mother and child

n PRESIDENT (Hifikepunye) Pohamba’s drive to reduce maternal and infant mortality is commendable, but we need commitment. If we do not pay decent salaries to those who look after the nation’s wellbeing then these are just words. We need to get our priorities straight.

n HOW on earth from a profit-making company to a non-profit-making parastatal. Come on Mr (Albertus) Aochumab what a joke of a move.

n SHAME on those who pay their domestics N$300 to N$600. They look after your house, kids etc while you’re sitting at work.

GIPF Invests
n THE Namibia Public Workers Union SG has served on the GIPF Board for more than 12 years. Civil servants is there no-one else to represent your interests? Otherwise stop complaining about money lost because you choose your representatives.
– Magano

n DO not give money to failing things like the parastatals. Give a percentage from our GIPF contributions to use at my village church or school. Or get the money from the GIPF and give it to your war veterans before we die. I, as a war veteran am provided with nothing except the endless filling of forms. Like others I will be buried at my village. Enjoy our money as you please.
– Shamuyarira from Oshikuku

NWR Saga
n I SEE lots of NWR comments and advice, only that the talk about assets is missing. Ring a bell.

n THE disappearance of the multi-million dollars from GIPF can be compared with the horrific accident which happened between Grootfontein and Rundu where 28 people lost their lives, because every Namibian citizen was very shocked to hear about that accident. The same applies to the disappearance of public money. Everybody is shocked. Fellow citizens believe it or not, this will go nowhere because there are big fish involved.
– Tupopilwa, Ondangwa

n GIVE the civil servants their pension money. It’s our money but other people are gambling with it. Why is it that we have no say in our money? The people in charge are just ignoring our pleas!

n NWR is not bankrupt but technically insolvent: Klemens /Awarab, previous NWR Board Chairman. Why should Ms (Jackie) Asheeke be answering for such people’s mess? Thanks Jackie for your typical candid way of tackling this problem. You are brave enough to even admit NWR wrongsdoings, something that does not exist in the (Tobie) Aupindi-/Awarab vocabulary.

n NWR bailout. Better management is to be appointed to run the parks. Tobias

n MINISTER (Netumbo) Ndaitwah instead of seeking to burden taxpayers for NWR’s failure to fulfill their promises, you should carry out your constitutional duty to reprimand NWR management and discipline the guilty. So too should the Minister of Finance. Stop wasting our hard-earned money, pouring it down the gaping throats of irresponsible State Owned Enterprises without accountability.

Where’s the motor bike?

n MANAGEMENT of NWR is like an ashtray on a motor bike.

n WHY didn’t NWR not consider upgrading all their resorts in phases? Instead now they are totally screwed due to mismanagement. On top of that rumour has it that (Tobie) Aupindi is due to head to Air Namibia. What a Government we have allowing all this to happen by way of continuing to inject millions into these ailing operations!

The BIG Picture
n MR PM. Why does your Government not want to help your own poor? BIG has proven its success! However your giving money to BEE has proved its corruption.

n WHY are the German metal workers union debating BIG? What do they have to do with Namibian politics and budget spending? Please stop this neo-colonial interference and focus on your own nation.

Taxi Talk

Going up or down

n NABTA do you consider dropping taxi fares if fuel prices go down? You are always ready to increase them.
– Lameck, Kombat

Business as Usual
n I WISH Team Namibia would start advocating for the approval and the prioritisation of local tenders. We are killing our local companies and we are killing our economy from within. We need to clear our eyes.
– TK

n I HOPE the Namibian Government takes heed of Tarah Shaanika’s advice. Get jobs for Namibians and get rid of the cheap Chinese products and people. Send them back.

n CONGRATULATIONS Ms Ndahafa Mutongolume. Your candle project sounds very interesting. Where are the candles sold?

Health Matters
n TO Dr Richard Kamwi. Why is it a must that nurses escorting patients from Oshakati to Windhoek have to sleep in guest houses so that they  do not claim rate 1 S & T? They are even more expensive at N$350 a night. It doesn’t happen with some regions.

Running the Show
n CAN the Minister of Safety and Security give us any indication as to when we are going to feel safe in our own homes? Clearly house-breaking is out of hand. Criminals should not test our resolve to rid ourselves of all criminal activities in this land. That message should be loud and clear. More importantly we want action. Enough is enough!

n COMRADE Pohamba please bring back Lieutenant Shalli - the army is falling apart.

In and From
the Regions
n ROSHCOR of Rosh Pinah when are we going to get our power? Your management knew that you left houses without power?

Power to the people

n WE at Omamas also want electricity like other small places. But the councillors told us each house owner must pay N$2 000 before they install electricity. Is it fair?

n THE accommodation problem for civil servants in Swakopmund is the worst! Flats and houses are allocated to friends. We have left our husbands and children behind and have nowhere to live. We are forced to pay N$2 000 to live in a matchbox! Government how’s that for motivation?

n I AM worried about other people’s houses in Outapi town. These houses are surrounded by grass. Let’s clean our surrounding areas please people.
–KB, Rural

A much needed vehicle

n ARIAMSVLEI Clinic. People are dying while waiting for an ambulance from Karasburg because, most of the time, there is not an ambulance available. Something must be done!

City Fathers Please...
n I AM a resident of Rhine Street, Wanaheda, Katutura. I want to know why our street is not tarred when all the other streets in this section of Windhoek are? Please we want to know, we also pay tax.
n WHY is the City of Windhoek turning a blind eye to dirty streets like Omuaha Street in Okuryangava?

n WHEN is the council going to stop auctioning plots? The poor remain behind. We cannot compete against the rich. The old colonial practice where plots were sold to individuals was indeed effective and accessible. Why create resolutions which don’t benefit the community which you are supposed to lead and look after? No wonder there is illegal land occupation! Why can’t one buy an open plot direct from the Municipality ?

n MUNICIPALITY of Windhoek. We are indeed very disappointed with the auctioning of public residential erven. Of course the City Council gained millions out of the sale. But did the common man get something like accessibility and affordability! What was the struggle all about? To enrich certain individuals at the expense of the poor electorate? Who will over see the success of Vision 2030 ?

Education

That valued profession

n I STRONGLY support the voice of the church in education to reintroduce the Bible as a promotion subject at school.

n UNAM Ogongo Campus. We are getting a poor breakfast while paying thousands for it. We need quality food including fruit. We are tired of eggs and bread every day.

n LEARNERS arriving late for school is the principal’s responsibility. He (with staff) must decide what to do.

n DEAR Minister and headmaster, I and others are denied teaching in geography, history, life and physical science classes because of disruptive behavior of boys and teachers’ inability to instill discipline in Grade 9c Windhoek High School!

And Justice for All
n CORRUPTION is much more than a ‘social ill’. It is illegal theft of the belongings of our citizens and the wilfull sabotage of our economy. Just as these criminals are willing to let the poor rot in squatter camps, let them rot in prison.

n SO the Ombudsman is going to place the Minister of Home Affairs on terms. Once again the Minister responsible will just show a finger.

Labour Issues
n IT may also be helpful to have a meeting of domestic worker employers as well.

n TSUMEB Municipality please try to do something about the casual workers. We have been working for six years but we still don’t even have social security. Every time you just make empty promises.
– Tsumeb Municipality casual

n PLEASE Ministry of Labour do something. Our brothers and sisters are suffering here at (company name supplied). We are working 07h00 to 19h00 Monday to Sunday. No overtime and the salaries are very small.

n DEAR Editor I just want to make an amendment in The Namibian of July 23; page 13 should read as follows: Ombudsman please urgently investigate the Office of the Labour Commissioner for failing to enforce arbitration awards to foreign companies in favour of Namibian employees.

n WHAT is the Namibian Food and Allied Workers Union (Nafau) doing in the case of the Aranos abattoir? This has been going on for many years. Please do something.

Lost and Found

Keep them safe

n I IMMANUEL Elise lost my ID in Windhoek. If found please contact or SMS me at 081-403-7857

n I MOYO Mathias N lost my wallet over the weekend with documents in it. If found please call or SMS me on 081-211-3563. Thank you.

n SELMA Wilho. I lost my documents. If found please contact 081-480-0996.

n I FOUND personal documents for Ms Susanna Tsamases in the Brakwater area. Call or SMS me on 081-628-9950.

NBC
n NBC why a new DG after every year or so? Things aren’t working out, are they? By the way, the PPV card is nonsense! Find other possible solutions.
– LL

n NBC please show us the upcoming game between Eleven Arrows and the Amakosie live please.

n NBC now that you have a new DG please do something. We in Walvis Bay are really tired of your poor sound and pictures and the old fashioned movies. And you expect us to pay TV licences?

Service Please
n NAMPOST. I’m very disappointed with your system. I lost my smart card and replaced it. I have been to wait for 7 days to withdraw. Are you using computers or a manual system?
– Emmanu
n MTC the aweh aweh promotion is seriously inconveniencing the network. One has to call 10 times before you can get through. Ordinary people have become victims of their competition with leo. Like they say - when two elephants fight the grass becomes the victim!

n NEDBANK Namibia why are you not linked to Nedbank SA like all other banks (are linked to SA head offices)?

Response to
recent SMSes
n I WHOLLY support the writer of the SMS that says those who are responsible for the disappearance of millions of dollars should be sent to jail. It is because of them that 51 per cent of Namibians are unemployed and live in extreme poverty. The message must be loud and clear that Namibia is no home to greedy and selfish people.
– Street vendor.

The debate rages on

n TO the reader complaining about the vuvuzela. They are our culture dating back from our ancient horns. Banning them is disrespectful to our beautiful heritage. Just because Europeans don’t like them then doesn’t mean they are not good. By the way, they existed before the 2010 World Cup.

n THIS is in response to the SMS of July 27 about a customer (Poleka) complaining about distance travel to withdraw money. Contact me: 081-127-5707, W Kandjii, Nampost business promoter or give me his/her number so we can see how we can be of assistance.
