SMSes for Tuesday 27 July 2010

SMSes Of The Day
n PLEASE all of you debating BIG: you all consider the poor a problem. Why do you not recognise them as an asset to the nation? The answer to their situation is not with you - it is with them. Listen to the people! They want education, skills training and micro loans.

n THE Government is preaching that we should stand up and create wealth. But when we Namibians put in tenders, the Chinese get the tenders. We lost a tender to a Chinese company who has more than three multi-million dollar tenders. When are we going to get on the boat? This must stop.

Food for Thought
n TO fellow drivers, if you want to buy a newspaper during peak traffic please make sure your act doesn’t cause traffic delays. Always ensure that you don’t need change; that there are no cars behind you and, if at robots, please don’t call the vendor when the traffic starts to move.

n EVERYONE, including myself, hates the irresponsible driving style of taxi drivers. So my suggestion is that the Taxi Association and the Traffic Police create a ‘hotline’ phone/SMS number. The public sends in the violation with the taxi number (written in big letters on the taxi). After three reported violations the driver is suspended from driving a taxi until further investigations are made. With 5 plus complaints, his licence is revoked.

n WELL done, Mr (Kazembire) Zemburuka (moderator of ‘The Week that Was’ on NBC TV). You kept going and asking the right questions despite these demagogues’ various manoeuvres to distract attention from the critical issues, which are money squandering and self-righteous justification of lavish spending patterns! Your way of conducting this interview was interesting and revealing. Keep up the good work ! This is journalism as it should always be: in the interest of the public, conducted in a way that a viewer can build an own opinion on the basis of more and better information.

n TO Namibia’s Girls Soccer Youth Team – Galz & Goals – congratulations on winning your matches in South Africa!

n THANKS to Minister Abraham Iyambo, the first Education Minister to respond to SMSes sent. You show you care.

n THANK you Selma for bringing the discussion on NBC TV about infertility which is a common problem for many women in Namibia. Parliamentarians should comment on this issue. And (Health Minister) Dr (Richard) Kamwi we need a group of specialists to assist us. We also need kids of our own to avoid being called names.

What’s so funny

n WHAT message is The Namibian trying to send with its cartoon on page 4, in Wednesday, July 21’s issue? That fat people are corrupt? That slim people are corrupt, or is the message that people in uniform are corrupt?

n AIR Namibia, two weeks ago I travelled from Cape Town to Windhoek. The flight was to depart at 07h00 in the morning. At 06h45 the check-in crew at the airport told all the passengers we couldn’t board as the Air Namibia crew had not arrived. A few minutes before 07h00 they rocked up without an apology for all waiting passengers. Of course we arrived late in Windhoek.

n NBC and One Africa can you please play your love movies after 22h00 because that is why we have a high failing rate at school. Rather play educational programmes on your TV so that our children can improve in Namibia.

GIPF Invests
n I AGREE with all those who call for the heads of the CEO and the entire Board of Trustees of the GIPF to roll. It is a disgrace that no action is being taken against those who are running the GIPF or did we all get a cut in the loot? The ACC and the Ombudsman should lodge independent investigations and a member of the Fund should take legal action to seek a court order to remove them and investigate period.

The BIG Picture
n DEAR BIG Coalition, hopefully the NUNW members will speak against the decision at the coming union congress. From the articles we cannot hear one reasonable argument raised by the NUNW against BIG. Changing economic structures which cause inequality and poverty are no contradiction to the Basic Income Grant. The unions can still work on these changes while supporting BIG. The cartoon in The Namibian is the most appropriate answer however. It shows that workers cannot rely on unions. That is bad since strong unions are necessary in each country. If unions lose support only employers will win. So the withdrawal from BIG reveals a crisis in the NUNW.
– BIG supporter Christiane Benner and Thomas Klebe from Germany - members of the metal workers union IGM-Germany

n I AM 100 per cent against BIG. I do have one idea, but I don’t know where to forward my proposal.

Politics
n IT is only in Namibia where some NDF members are tolerated having political party placards and flags on their houses. Where can I report this serious conflict of interest of the NDF members?

And Justice for All
n SACKEY Namungongo just jailed for eight years for N$332 500, but what about those people who steal many millions? We want to see them in jail too.

ACC Alert
n ACC please have a forensic audit done on the trust account of the Namibia Rugby Union.

Education
n DR Abraham Iyambo it’s time that those who received study loans from the Government and are employed start repaying the loans. Many people have ignored the fact that they owe the Goverment thousands of dollars. Thus the Ministries of Education and Finance must make compulsory deductions from all employed loan receivers to repay loans. I have paid off my study loan.

n FELLOW citizens let’s wake up. Let’s not be fooled by some of these so-called universities which are evolving in our country these days especially the self enrichment ‘universities’/’colleges’. For heavens sake how can a person do a degree in two hours? How can engineering be offered by people who have no clue about it and in a few weeks for that matter? Why should students of our local institutions buy answers to the assignments from these artificial institutions? How can an ‘institution’’ offer tuition for another institution without an agreement? That is immoral. Of course we need human resources development for Vision 2030 but not through these profit-oriented institutions. Our (Education) Ministry should intervene. I am sick and tired of this daylight robbery!

n DEAR Minister Iyambo, I am a Grade12 learner at Jan Möhr High School in Windhoek. A number of our teachers are forever absent from school! We are worried about our education! Please help us!

n MINISTER Iyambo please help us by sending a team to inspect the way food is prepared at Max Makushe Secondary School. It is awful! If possible provide training to the cooks as well.

General
n INCOME Revenue please enter details in your system. Every year you ask for the same information to be filled in on your forms for tax returns. Where do you take our information? Please enter it into the system. Every year ...’what is your ID no or the names of dependents etc’. We prefer only to add or amend rather than writing over each year.

n WITH reference to your front page photo on Monday. If Team Namibia loves Namibia, they should be actively seeking to ban plastic bags that litter our countryside and not print more of them!

n A WARM-HEARTED request to my favourite newspaper to show us all those who have been crowned Miss Namibia since it started in next week’s Weekender before the new winner is crowned. Just to take us down memory lane and for us who don’t know the women from 2000 and earlier to get to know who they were.

n THERE was a newspaper report that maize producers are withholding their produce to increase the price. Can the Agronomy Producers Association talk to their members as it is not good for consumers. They must not mourn when customers switch to more nutritious food.

Service Please

Not in front of customers

n STAFF of Foschini Oshakati please stop arguing in front of your customers. We come to shop, not to listen to your arguments.

In and From
the Regions
n WE need a post office or place for old people at Eembaxu in Ondobe Constituency in Ohangwena Region. Please Minister of Labour we travel over 12 km to get our money. Either we go to Ondobe, Oshandi or Omakando but these places are very far from Eembaxu.
– Poleka.

n SWAKOPMUND Municipality stop robbing us of our hard-earned money. The bill plus reconnection (fee) was paid on Thursday. Why didn’t you open water that day or by the latest on Friday? Was this delay on purpose so that you can charge us N$189.75 for after our reconnection. What is going on?
– Jabulani.
