SMSes for Thursday 29 July 2010

SMS Of The Day n WE women of this country are tired of men who rape and kill our children and tomorrow they are on the street. Please let the Government do something about this issue.

Food for Thought
n WHAT is the need for taxi windows to be tinted? The relevant authorities should look into that one.

The Attack

Hand him over to us

n GOD watch over Magdalena. I felt sad and torn apart by the horror slaying that took place in Windhoek. The Namibian must re-look at the Constitution please. Bring back the death penalty.
– Angry teacher

n WHAT happened to the Land of the Brave? Innocent girls and woman are being raped and murdered; no respect for human life anymore! Please bring in the death penalty. Enough is enough.

n WHY are the Police protecting the killer? He does not deserve to be treated like a human being. Let us deal with him; hand him over to the us. This human rights has become a threat to the Namibian nation. How many protests and petitions must take place before our leaders open their eyes and ears?

n FELLOW Namibians, it is time to take a stand against crime and the brutal slaying of our children. Because if we don’t and continue to fail and rather opt to remain uninvolved; history will one day judge us harshly. Are we a nation of heroes and heroines or are we a simply a nation of cowards? If we are truly the nation of the Land of the Brave, when are we going to say no to crime; no to the brutal killing and rape of our children? In short when are we going to start holding our elected leadership and law-enforcing institutions accountable? Are we going to allow evil to succeed in our beloved motherland simply because we are too cowardly to take a stand and be seen taking action against barbaric and cowardly crimes such as the one we witnessed yesterday?

n THE entire Namibian nation is in shock at what has just happened to a 16-year-old girl who was brutally attacked, raped and killed. This is not news to us since taking other peoples’ lives in Namibia has become a habit. What has gone into peoples’ minds making them have such evil thoughts towards others and commit such shameless crimes? How can this be stopped? What insanity are we causing in this world? It is high time to say no more to this and strictly punish these evil deeds. These people who, for whatever reason, no longer find life meaningful taking innocent and precious lives. Let him pay for whatever pain he caused to this family. My condolences to her family and the entire nation at large in shock. God be with our nation. Enough is enough.
– K. Shimwetheleni

n THE lawmakers can change the presidential terms; create positions for fellow comrades and even loopholes for self enrichment (as they are) living in secure environments at the public expense. Their kids are dropped off in the classrooms. The slaying of this school girl is just one too many for me. Please bring back the death penalty! Call a referendum if you have to but, for once, listen to those who suffer the most.
– Nado

n HORROR killings deserve the death penalty! But our ‘beloved’ politicians will only wake up when its their child who’s murdered!

n IF the Stock Theft Act can be so specific on punishment; why can’t rapists and murderers be hanged? Or is it that politicians aren’t raped and murdered?

n THE rapist/murderer of the 17-year old school girl should be castrated and locked up for life!

n THE death penalty must be brought back for less crime to be committed! We are tired of the killing. We want peace in Namibia; not only for Namibians but also for other people coming to Namibia.

n RAPING someone is already too much. Why cut the throat of that innocent girl? Come on we must start acting like real men. She could have been our next prime minister. Enough is enough!

n CHARGE all rapists, murderers, thieves, money-launderers with 25 years hard labour and no privileges.

n IF those bushes were trimmed that girl could escape 100 per cent unhurt. This goes to the so-called City of Windhoek. They are not doing their job. Please God save us !

n I AM heartbroken and deeply disturbed by the senseless rape and murder of that young girl walking to school. The only deterrent to such shocking crimes is to bring back the death penalty.
–Nam man.

n AFTER the murder of this young girl provide transport for us the future generations. It’s a shame but anyway the culprit will get 15 years, but to steal a animal because I am hungry will get 30 years. Namibia Government please represent and protect us.

n IT is very shocking to see our children suffer like animals. Please our leaders prepare transport for our children. For 20 years we elected our leaders but we are still suffering  – do something.
Note: The death penalty in Namibia was abolished through the Constitution’s Article 6, on ‘Protection of Life’. Because this article is part of the Constitution’s Chapter 3, which protects the fundamental human rights and freedoms of everyone in Namibia, it cannot be repealed or amended. We as Namibians will thus have to find other, more realistic ways than the suggested reintroduction of the death penalty to deal with the unacceptably high level of crime in our society.

n CONGRATULATIONS to Ambassador Tuliameni Kalomoh for winning the defamation case levelled against him by the ‘ill advised; indisciplined and noise makers’, Swapo Party Youth League guru Veikko Nekundi and others. SPYL open your eyes that it is now time for you to show some degree of respect toward your elders.

n THUMBS up! I wish all the public toilets were as clean as those at Wernhil Park. Thanks to management and cleaners there. Keep up the good work you are doing for the community!

GIPF Saga
n GIPF says in the Government newspaper that all is well. Let us not be fooled. Of course it is well because of all the cash reserves thanks to the poor civil servants. Why does the chairman not comment on the negligent management of funds. Enough is enough. Get rid of them and let them pay back like the CEO of SAA in South Africa.

n SO it is possible that at the end of our tenure in the Government public servants might retire with little or nothing from the pension contribution. Public servants wake up and fight for your money.

City Fathers Please...
n MUNICIPALITY of Windhoek the auction held on July 23 was very disappointing as it seems it was only held for the rich. The auctioneer totally ridiculed the reserve price, the developers, estate and City of Windhoek’s own employees ensured that prices would be kept as high as possible by bidding on all the erven. Some people came to the auction with a loan approval of only N$180 000. What will happen to these people?

n THE Municipality’s recent auction for erven was a big joke. Developers and rich minorities ruled the roost, while the first-time buyers were left empty-handed. How do you expect Namibians to have access to land and property if you ensure that it keeps eluding them? ACC please look into this corrupt practice!

n PRESIDENT (Hifikepunye Pohamba) must do something before 2030, because they are providing job opportunities but are only recruiting their families and friends. While we who don’t have anyone working in Government will remain poor forever.

Education
n MINISTER (Abraham) Iyambo can you please investigate all the schools in Windhoek which are charging learners per month for afternoon classes to assist them with learner problems. Some parents cannot even afford the School Development Fund.

Service Please
n TELECOM Namibia your EVDO service is poor! Why am I paying monthly for a service that is not working most of the time? It drops the line every two seconds making Internet connection impossible. Please wake up your call centre staff too.

In and From
the Regions
n WE need more building material shops in Gobabis. The monopoly and poor customer care we are subjected to is unbelievable.

n THE problem is not the plastic bag – the problem is the person who litters. Like South Africa, we cannot ban plastic bags but we can institute a system of control. Companies will close and more people will be unemployed if we have a total ban on plastic bags. Also consider that even if there were no plastic bags in circulation, bottles, cans and paper would still litter the environment. Maybe we should consider an educational drive for our people to stop littering and start actively recycling?

n RE SMS Page: Quote: (edited) ‘we need to have kids to avoid being called names’. Is a woman’s worth still measured by her fertility? If this is what we have chieved in 20 years of Independence; we are doomed!

n I WISH to comment on the article about corporal punishment. The wise man Solomon said: Spare the rod and spoil the child. This truth will stand for ever. My parents and teachers did not spare the rod on me; neither me on my 3 children. I still thank my parents and teachers for that and my children say that it was not wrong. There is a difference between beating a child up and applying a hand to the seat of wisdom. And that is what Solomon meant should be done when required.

n I FULLY agree with it that LaRRI (The Namibian page 3 27 July) wants to better domestic worker’s working conditions. My domestic worker was told that she should earn N$6 000 per month and get a house after 7 years employment. Were they also told this at the meeting?
