SMSes of Tuesday 26 January 2010

* OUR highly respected Prime Minister (Nahas Angula) is reported to have said that lazy civil servants will be booted out of their jobs. Mr Prime Minister, as an auditor who deals with them on a daily basis, I can assure you that by doing this you will create around 20 000 vacancies. I am also of the opinion that we will easily replace them with people currently unemployed but very eager to work and appreciate any work.

Food for Thought
* THE Water Affairs Department must use the same yardstick when measuring levels of rivers. The Okavango River is measured from the floor (riverbed) upwards while the mighty Zambezi is measured from the four metre mark. When they say the Zambezi is two metres high they are actually saying it is six metres high. This should be simplified.

Brickbats and Bouquets
* THUMBS up to the Otavi Police Station commander with your arrival two years back. We the farmers and community of Otavi are happy with the service you are rendering to us. This is evident from school children that are no longer seen in drinking places. There is crime prevention on all gravel roads to Otavi town. We are safe because of your good and leadership. Keep it up.

* CONGRATULATIONS to members of the Namibian Police who apprehended one of the suspects in Mr T Nieuman’s murder case. Being a former police officer myself, I still believe that you are capable of doing a good job. Make us a proud nation and keep up the good work. You’re always in our prayer.
– Pastor Ben Araeb

* MR (Evilastus) Kaaronda I am not a fan of Harold Pupkewitz because I think he is a monopolist. He has however provided jobs to more than a thousand people and pays millions in taxes. What is your contribution to the economy sir. With talk only nothing is produced.

* COMRADE Kaaronda must please apologise to tatekulu Pupkewitz. You are a bad example to young people of this country.

* MR (Phil) ya Nangolo you are more concerned about Swapo’s violation of human rights instead of monitoring our prisons. Any person arrested should appear in court within 48 hours and if that’s not the case he or she should released immediately. Our prisons are overcrowded and the living conditions a true violation.

Politics
* DESPITE all the negativity surrounding last year’s election, at least some politicians came up with phrases that, although controversial, are very funny when put in a political satire perspectiveeeee: the Nyamu notes, Shawapo, Radopa, Omusati clique, Savimbi syndrome, imperialists, hibernators etc. I believe if we use these terms in a humorous way we may become a true democracy. Just watch how political satire shows in the USA, such as the Daily Show and the David Letterman Show, have continued to build that country’s democracy from a very racist society to a more tolerant one.

* (ELIJAH) Ngurare, who are you to tell people to quit this country? How Namibian are you?

* WE want to know who the next Minister of War Veterans Affairs is going to be. Comrade President (Hifikepunye) Pohamba please can you appoint Comrade Martin Shalli as minister. We want him!

* IN an interview with a weekend newspaper the Swapo Secretary General Pendukeni (Ithana) said the N$3 million that was stolen at the Katutura Magistrates Court must be investigated. Dear Leader that money was stolen in February 2009 and in January 2010 you request a investigation. Is it not a bit late? You and the Government feel nothing for our hard-earned money

In and From the Regions
* WHOEVER becomes a councillor in Okahandja, please we need dogs, chickens, cattle and goats off our streets.

* CAN the government please do something with Oshikango. It is an unpleasant place to be.

* WE are residents of Eehama Location in Omusimboti village in the Oshana Region. We have to walk a distance of 9 km to Omege to buy electricity and if the machine is not working, we have to walk another  6 km to buy electricity cards at Ongwediva Select filling station. We want feedback from the Nored office on why they cannot provide us with an electricity card machine card at Eehama? Are we not their valuable customers just like others?
– Eehama resident

* Director of National Youth Service, firstly let me thank the ministry and all involved in envisaging the Youth Centre in Henties Bay. To my understanding the first phase of cleaning the garden has commenced and the Ministry\NYS has brought youth from Berg Aukas while we have capable youth in Henties Bay. This gives us the impression that once this project has been completed you, will bring in another group to work here as you managed to exclude our youth right from the onset. The youth of Henties Bay speak out of one mouth when it comes to developmental issues and do not want any political interference or influence in such matters. We want all our youth to be involved in this project from the word go and hope that this project does not have any political attachment.
– Concerned youth, Henties Bay

* WHY do Zambians take advantage of visiting motorists? Why should we pay 800 dollars per vehicle for entering Zambia in the name of a carbon tax? Please Government talk to Zambia or else let’s introduce the same.

And Justice for All

Ryno and mom, Heidi van Zyl

* PRAISE be to God for Judge Sylvester Mainga’s wise decision to acquit Ryno van Zyl. I wish you and your mother everything of the best now that this difficult time is over. You have been in my prayers for two years now, and they were answered. Thank you Judge Mainga for being an instrument of His mercy.
– A well wisher.

* LET Ryno van Zyl go free, he is a real man who saved his mum.
– He was acquitted in the High Court on Friday.

General
* SINCE Nampol is withholding crime stats, why not get them from City Police? They would surely be more transparent and forthcoming.

* ANYONE who knows where I can get information on chicken farming, please contact me on 081-277-5783.

Education
* GRADE 10 failures: Besides factors identified in that region one needs to pay attention to the behaviour of the learners themselves. Commitment, motivation and dedication should go together with good teaching. Additionally you have to remember that not all learners are gifted to pass that grade. Do not relax, but do not have expectations that are too high. Nowadays kids do not behave like us in the past and this will determine their performance. So consider all the causes.

* IUM why do you refuse to give us our results or academic record because of outstanding fees? We are still waiting for our loans to be approved, especially the June intake students.

* I WANT to know when the Grade 12 results are coming out?
– The information we were given is the last week of January.
– NewsDesk

* THE handicap behind the downfall of Grades 10 and 12 is the marking system! More marked papers, more money!! Those who have ‘doctors’ handwriting’ are then doomed for life! Mark for life not for money!
– Alpha

Labour Issues
* SECURITY union, check our salaries. Visit us here in Okahandja. We are not getting paid the N$4 bonus for the daily shifts of more than 10 hours that we are working.
– Guard

NBC
* CAN someone please advise our news readers both at national radio and broadcasting that when they are reading news, they need to break, so that listeners will be able to tell when a second idea is being read.

* NBC please do something. Here in Mariental for two weeks, we have TV on one day and off the next. Can you please update us because we are missing a lot.

* CAN NBC remain the best companion it is and please replay the final episode of ‘Stand for love’? Some of us missed it due to poor transmission. Thanks NBC.

City Fathers Please...
* CITY of Windhoek how come that a person staying alone, who is barely home, pays more than those with a family permanently at home?  When you lodge a complaint, they come up with lame excuses like a leakage somewhere. I’m tired of paying for services not rendered and poor management. And they must of course reduce their unnecessarily high rate.

* THE Municipality of Windhoek must get serious. I have been in my house for five months now without paying for water. Every time I ask for a bill they tell me tell its not ready yet. Please show your work.

Health Matters
* THE Ministry of Health should do something about nurses homes accommodation especially at Windhoek Central Hospital. The registered nurses who just finished their studies are on the streets while there are people who have been residing in the nurses homes for 20 years and they have even been accommodating prison officers, people working at Pick n Pay. Please do something.
– Twalulilwa

* DR (Richard) Kamwi please try to have a hard talk with your counterpart Angolan health minister. Our citizens are suffering with the overcrowding at Oshikuku, Engela, Eenhana and Okongo hospitals! That Angolan health minister is neglecting her or her duties and failing President (Jose Eduardo) dos Santos.
