SMSes of Wednesday 3 February 2010

* STOP blaming the matric farewell for the poor Grade 12 results!! If the farewell is the problem, what excuse are we using for poor Grade 10 results?

Food for Thought
* WHEN will our Government give us a platform (apart from the National Chat Show) to air our opinions and views on different issues affecting our communities? We could use Internet and print media to reach our leaders.
– G
– This would seem the ideal platform – Newsdesk

Bouquets and Brickbats
* THE SMS space in The Namibian newspaper may go a long way in creating harmony amongst Namibians, if it can be preceded by tips on interpersonal relations, constructive communication, etc. We are a small nation and need to appreciate the media in creating constructive criticism. I do respect the motto of ‘Still telling it like it is’ and I believe that English is a language rich in good words that can certainly allow people to amicably tell each other like it is, and by so doing enable people to see the difference between personal attacks and dealing factually with issues.
– Hosabe H /Honeb

* THANK you for the ‘Who does he connect you to?’ adverts. Although he was my first and I was faithful, I knew he was linking me to a sexual network. Thanks to the eye opening adverts I broke the chain. I choose to remain HIV negative.

* MR Bob Kandetu’s articles in The Namibian may be informative, but sir your English is too academic, one needs to have an encyclopedia next to him to understand your message. Please consider accommodating all your possible readers, some of us are mere laymen, as far as English communication is concerned. However if you relax your vocabulary a bit we may understand your inspiring message.

* THE City of Windhoek’s Traffic  Management Department should get that name removed! Their recent withdrawal from the city’s streets seems not to be restricted to school streets but other streets as well. The result? Utter chaos especially in the mornings.

* THE national broadcaster needs to be reminded that ours is a multiracial society. Newsworthy events need to be reported without prejudice to certain communities, including those who do not vote for the ruling party. The so-called in-betweens should be brought in as well.

Politics
* MY Longman dictionary defines youth as a person between childhood and adulthood! Maybe some never grow up, hence the 18 to 59 definition on Monday’s SMS  page.

* YOUTH until the age of 59 ? Be realistic please, or are you thinking of these youth leagues being run by people who are way too old to be in them.
– JDZ

* DUDLEY can only cartoon somebody who either said or did something funny and controversial. With the experts in this field in Government and with fierce competition for limited space in the cartoon, there is hardly space for opposition members.

Is it Proper?

Is there a smoking gun?

* GUNS with silencers, if true, for who and what? I believe there would be no smoke without fire. Mr (Joel) Kaapanda is there for the nation that’s why he is alerting it. He knows what he is talking about. That’s why he is the Minister of Information. He shouldn’t suppose that the rumours came from opposition parties, if it is not true. He is informing the nation in  Swapo style, that of blaming opposition parties for Swapo’s  wrongs. Thank you Comrade Minister for letting us know what is happening behind our backs as a nation.

* CAN the ACC investigate the (Founding President Sam) Nujoma weapons story.

* IF Minister Kaapanda’s utterances and rumour mongering goes unquestioned, then Namibians must be really afraid. How did our Government get to this in the first place?

Running the Show
* THE Government is not functioning due to a lack of professionalism from the Permanent Secretaries who are running ministries like their own ‘kambashus’. Some are helping their Ministers to fail so they can substitute them.  Mr President (Hifikepunye Pohamba), you don’t need to wait for some others to retire before getting rid of them and don’t consider them for Ministerial posts either. Please, let them go back to their villages.

Election Challenge
* (EVILASTUS) Kaaronda’s latest attack on the judiciary is calculated to create doubt and discredit our country’s judges ... A preemptive manoeuvre, in case the ECN and Swapo lose the pending case.

* MADAM (Pendukeni) Ithana you are dead right. Deceased people do not vote and they don’t remain on the voters roll in such overwhelming proportions unless the Electoral Commission of Namibian is lazy.

In and From the Regions
* DOCTOR (Richard) Kamwi, can you please send out your health inspectors to visit shebeens, clubs and shops once a week. The toilets at the shebeens and clubs are so bad! And some shops smell bad.
– Swakopmund

* ONGWEDIVA Clinic your service is too slow. Please stick to the times.

* CAN the ACC investigate the system of allocating stands at Ongwediva Open Market. Some rooms are reserved for councillors and officers. This is corruption.

General
* ADVICE to students and job seekers. If you can, kindly visit Police Stations after five to certify your documents. It worked for me because the stations are less busy at night.

* AS a gay person in Namibia I am worried about the situation at the Rainbow Project, that is if they still exist. Could the leadership of this organisation please inform us of its status as we are tired of hostile environment. It’s time for a change and visibility.

Education
* HOW can the Polytech take students with 25 points in 5 subjects only? What about us who have 25 or more points in six subjects? We deserve a chance fair and square.

* NSFAF we need our study loans to be approved on time to avoid last minute panic!
– Tulonga Namwiha (1st year Polytech IT student)

* IN Hardap Region near Kalkrand there is a school with four teachers and four learners. Also a secretary. What is going on?

City Fathers Please...
* IT is unsafe at Havana. Please City of Windhoek  provide street light and toilets. Police Chief at Wanaheda please send your members around from 23h00, botsotsos  are cutting chains and stealing our property.

Sporting
* IS there any soccer team that will be camping in Namibia for the 2010 World Cup? What now Namibia Football Association (NFA) and Namibian Wildlife Resorts (NWR)?
– Football Lover

* WHY do we pray for help when competing in sports? Is it really necessary or do we not want to make any effort without mentioning God’s name or Allah, as called by some? I think we must stop this because it is for us to enjoy and show our ability and talents and not to ask God to help one side. We may ask the Lord to protect us from injuries but not to win because who wants to lose?

Lost and Found
* I FOUND Frans Ludwika’s ID and Ouchurub Simon’s voter registration card. Please call 081-283-9615.

Service Please
* CAN Namilk please inform the public why there no cottage cheese in the whole city and there has not been any for quite some time!

* CITY of Windhoek, please answer your phones! Shocking customer service!

* STANDARD Bank how long should we await the answer about cellphone banking?
– Namutenya

* FNB cellphone banking is a problem. They claim it’s free but it uses a lot of credit and doesn’t work at month ends. I’d rather take a cab and go stand in those long queues.

* NAMPOST – Katutura. Please improve your service delivery. Open a counter for senior citizens and disabled persons.

* WHY does the management of MTC not care when we ask for their help when people stalk us on the cell phone, even when you have been their customer for years?

* WHERE is the “health inspector” when the nation’s health is in danger. Please inspect the Katutura Woermann Brock fridge – blue, red smelly meat.
– Woermann Brock has set up a Customer Input Desk for customers to criticise, complain about or praise the company. Do contact them on Windhoek (061) 376100 or email feedback@woermannbrock.com
– Newsdesk

* FNB Oshakati Game branch: Improve the quality of your services. It’s end of the month and you’re operating with only one till!

* POOR service at FNB. We want change this year in Khorixas please. Provide at least one ATM. Since 2006 we have been paying other banks’ high charges. Now we are travelling to Outjo which costs extra money.
– Hennie

* IT is a shame that the owner of (name supplied) Butchery at Swakopmund chased me out and banned me from his shop upon me asking him why he handles food I’m going to eat with bare hands and lets it sit on the bare counter with no container or cover at all! It is an old problem apparently. He likes shouting on customers and workers. Gentleman, change your heart or change your job.
– Traumatised customer.
