Food for Thought
Help needed!
* I DO not know who came up with the brilliant idea that traffic during rush hour should not be regulated. It’s a nightmare with taxis and impatient drivers. Please review this decision.
* SEEING as the municipal traffic police have withdrawn their point duty services, why not let ratepayers appoint professionals in their place? For which they will need to be paid. So withhold said amount from our rates and taxes. There are lots of ex-policeman out there more than capable of doing the job.
Bouquets and Brickbats
* THANK you Father Katenda for a wonderful and honest article. We Namibians are very scared to show love. I think it is because of insecurity. We need to learn to trust God when we pray for reconciliation and stop blaming the ‘Boers’. At last the voice of the Church comes to the fore.
* CONGRATULATIONS Hon Minister of Fisheries Dr Abraham Iyambo for the award you received.
* THANK you Acting DG of NBC for focusing on ordinary stories like ‘kapana’. Ordinary people also make news not only politicians with their endless and often useless workshops and conferences.
* I WOULD like to recognise the Katutura Police Station for a job well done. I was robbed of a Motorola V3 cellphone on Friday and I opened a case no. 247/02/2010. On Sunday February14 at 13h20 a detective lady called me to collect my stolen phone. I commend the CID officers who handled my case. Keep it up!
* ENGEN Swakop keep up the neat environment!
* I BELIEVE Ndeshi & Jakes is a refreshing cartoon strip to which most of us can relate. It’s unfortunate that you find people who would rather spend their time looking to unwittingly criticize Ndeshi & Jakes, instead of providing useful tips and information to the author and the public at large. Point in case was an SMS on February 12, inferring that the author was guilty of plagiarising, with no proof substantiating the accusation. Shouldn’t we be better than those who have to resort to destroying another to justify their existence?
* WHY is NamWater wasting so much money to advertise new appointments?
Politics
* WHEN one hears tales of the liberation struggle and how harmony and comradeship prevailed among the black cultural groups during the period prior to the exodus to foreign destinations, one wonders what then went wrong outside the borders of Namibia. Did Swapo deny the others the right to represent Namibia on an equal platform and regard others as sell-outs, just because of different views towards the struggle for freedom?
In and From the Regions
* THE former President (Sam Nujoma) visited Okahandja to address a party rally at Nau-Aib and he was most welcome in our town. The Municipality was hard at work cleaning it, but why do they not do it regularly. Was it only done to impress the Father of the Nation?
* CAN the concerned authority do something about the overgrown grass on the sides of the road between Grootfontein and Kombat. This area has too many wild animals which cross the road making it hazardous for motorists.
– Concerned motorist
* DEAR Karibib Municipality please construct speed humps on the Usab-Town road instead of chopping down trees around the accident prone T-Junction.
* GOVERNOR C Kashuupulwa, the pipeline from the main line to Uukwangula and Omwelefuma village is not yet connected. Please don’t waste pipes like last time when people had to re-dig and put in new ones.
* COUNCILLORS! Is the drought relief finished or are you waiting for the next elections? We are fed up with being given it during the election process, while we have nothing to eat at all when elections are over.
* I AM a resident of Kongola in Caprivi. There are some people who are getting Government supplies for orphans, like mealie meal, but those people have all passed away. This is corruption.
– Mr Diwawatha
* ON behalf of people in Caprivi I am asking The Namibian newspaper officials to have a printing press in this region so we can stop reading delayed news. People in Caprivi enjoy reading but they are starting to lose interest because they have to read the day before’s news.
* WE applied for project assistance at the Ministry of Gender Equality in Omusati Region in 2009 but they are still requesting people to apply. Does that mean we do not qualify?
Crime and Punishment
* IF guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns! Do you want that?
What the Police found
* BEFORE touching our legally owned firearms, look for all those unregistered guns in wrong hands.
* I BET that more people get injured or killed by pangas, knives, bottles and kieries than with legally owned firearms. In my opinion there is no difference between being ‘chopped to pieces’ or being shot.
* GUNS don’t kill people... People kill people !
* ARE there any official statistics about which items, weapons and firearms have been misused for crimes?
Labour Issues
* WHERE is the Superintendent of Katutura Hospital? We need our overtime signed immediately.
* THANK you (Evilastus) Kaaronda for coming to our rescue at Unam. What I read in another newspaper is just the tip of the iceberg. Unam management handpicks the people for the positions of HODs, Deans, etc. violating the statutes of the university. When we complain, we are threatened with disciplinary action. Our working relationships are very bad.
* CAN anyone tell me how the unemployment rate is calculated in Namibia? Where does the 51 per cent unemployment come from? Where did Professor J Makumbe get his figures from? I am not denying that we have a high rate of unemployment, but we need to understand which definition is being used.
* CAN our Government, banks, companies and NGOs support us the youth who want to go farming. You waste a lot of money on projects that end up nowhere. If you are serious about job creation and self reliance, contact me on 081-229-2841. Ask for Dan.
Education
* MR (Vitalis) Ankama, are you fully aware that there is a school with six learners and four teachers? Who pays? Taxpayers or donors? Others are handling 50 learners while teachers at this school do nothing. They just wait for the salary. Money is wasted while our children have no books, no education.
* PARENTS with children in schools, why don’t you see to it that your kids study? They are the ones walking around late at night and are forever in shebeens during exams. Then at the end of the day you blame the Government if they fail.
Too long or too short
* I WAS shocked to see schoolgirls wearing the shortest school uniforms. Are parents happy to see their kids walking out in those short skirts that don’t cover them properly when they bend down to pick up a something? Are they allowed to wear make-up too? I saw them wearing make up to school. I completed my high school in 1996 and yes, we also had our special matric outfits, but they were not so short. What happened to the rule of skirts being just above the knees? Boys wearing earrings is also allowed at school these days! I am pleading with parents to sit down with their kids and tell them that school is not about going to show off your legs and the expensive earrings. No! It’s about grooming them for their future and not to end up on the street robbing people or begging. Please parents and the Department of Education be strict with our brothers, sisters and kids. We obeyed the rules at home and at school and our results were tops in those years. Wake up parents, teachers and our leaders before it’s too late.
* PLEASE Institute of Bankers, we registered on October 19 and still have not received our materials. It is two months until we write our exams. We want a better future. Please send our stuff.
– Oshakati
* COMRADE (Nangolo) Mbumba please do something. We have been attending school with a shortage of teachers, especially in English where we struggled and got Es. Now we have nowhere to go.
Running the Show
* THE National Youth Service must plan before they call young people to their base, because they are sending people all over Namibia without food.
* ARE there no vacancies in our public service these days or did they stop posting the circulars on the Internet? The last one is for August 2009.
NBC
Fisheries vessal Nathaniel Maxuilili
* NBC please can you rebroadcast the Open File documentary on the fisheries patrol vessel Nathaniel Maxuilili’s activities at sea.
City Fathers Please...
* THE residents of Suiderhof are fed up at being woken at 05h00 in the morning by an ear-splitting electric alarm sounding like a bugle from the Military Base. Please this must stop.
Waiting for my licence
* WAKE up, Windhoek municipality! Why do your annual dog licences always arrive so late? Some of us are la- abiding residents who try to keep to the rules, only to queue up and be told your 2010 dog licences might arrive at the end of the month! It costs us time and money to visit your offices, whereas a little planning every year could prevent this mess.
* WHAT I don’t understand is that shebeens are in the areas where we live. Why are they not put apart from the houses?
* MUNICIPALITY please think, think and think again before you act. No entry for taxis to the vicinity of the Polytechnic equals chaos at the intersection of Johan Albrecht and John Meinert Streets. Consider traffic lights or acquire extra ambulances.
Health Matters
* NANASO must assist smaller organisations affiliated to it financially and also put them on board to represent them. Donors look into this please.
– Toto.
General
* WHO is Chris Smith? No-one seems to know his credentials. Add to his byline, please
* RESPONSE to a certain M. The taxi drivers and shebeen owners are robbed by robbers but they are not killers. Do you want us disarmed so that we can be robbed?
Service Please
* NO answer at the VAT division of the Receiver of Revenue at 09h45 on Tuesday February 16. No supervisor, no Director General Services answering either. Please improve your services!
* I WENT to Home Affairs Independence Avenue last week. The doors opened at 14h00 sharp and we queued at the six counters. The first official came to help 20 minutes after opening time and the last 40 minutes after opening time. Now they want a skills transfer regarding tour guides. Transfer your staff and your Permanent Secretary to the job seekers’ corner and employ new willing-to-work people please.
* DSTV why can’t we pay for individual channels or self-designed bouquets? Your programmes and repetitions are just as boring as the NBC. N$500 for nothing. Do something about it please.
Let us know
* I WOULD like Nampost to improve their services as many leave without notice for tea, breaks or at closing time. Please dear Namibians change this attitude
* STANDARD Bank’s current slogan is “moving forward” however their Home Loans department is “standing still!” They’re so slow in finalising matters! The consultants must pull up their socks and live up to their slogan!
– Disappointed client!
